How to Beat Difficult Summoner’s Greed Stages With the Monsters You Have

The fastest way through a difficult Summoner’s Greed stage is usually not collecting nine new monsters. Identify why the wave fails, choose one carry you can realistically strengthen, place adjacent buffs around that carry, and spend your next coins on the role that fixes the failure. A practical starting formation is Mighty–Kevin–Speedy when you own them and can afford their upgrades; otherwise, use the strongest affordable damage dealer and substitute supports that solve the same problems.

This approach works because tower-defense stages are decided by a few linked jobs: damage in the main kill zone, buffs that actually reach that damage dealer, control that prevents leaks, and enough survivability for the mode. The exact lineup changes by stage, roster, level, stars, and game mode.

Start with the reason you are losing

Do not change your whole board after every failed attempt. Watch the wave and classify the failure before spending coins. Most difficult clears fail in one of three ways:

  • Enemies survive the kill zone: your main damage dealer cannot remove targets before they reach the exit.
  • Enemies move through too quickly: the damage may be adequate, but there is not enough slowing, stunning, or other control time.
  • The stage rule defeats your damage: an immunity, elemental restriction, or mode-specific requirement makes the current damage type ineffective.

A fourth problem appears in modes that demand it: survival. If a challenge expects a monster or objective to remain alive, raw damage alone will not solve the stage. First fix the failure that is actually visible. A broad roster upgrade often produces less progress than one carry level or one well-placed control monster.

Use a repeat as a diagnostic tool

Run the same wave again without changing anything and watch where the first enemy reaches the exit. Note whether the lead target dies just after leaving your main damage area, whether several enemies bunch up, and whether a special enemy ignores your damage. This tells you whether to buy damage, control, or a compatible damage type.

Community guide contributor monkee665 summarizes the useful habit as: “If you’re stuck on a wave, remember to repeat and upgrade!” That is player advice rather than an official mechanic, but the loop is sound: repeat the failing wave, make one targeted change, and test again.

Build around one affordable carry

A carry is the monster receiving the largest share of your investment and doing the work of deleting enemies. The best carry for your account is not automatically the rarest monster. It is the damage dealer you can level, evolve, or otherwise strengthen enough to matter on the current stage.

Why concentrated investment wins

Every coin spread across a weak ninth slot is a coin unavailable to the monster that controls your kill zone. Nine evenly underpowered monsters can look impressive while failing to remove a single dangerous target. A concentrated core gives you a clear test: if the carry improves and the wave still leaks, you know the next purchase should address control or stage compatibility.

Choosing between two owned damage dealers

When two monsters are available, compare them on practical criteria rather than rarity alone:

Question What to check
Damage job Which monster is your main single-target or area-damage answer for this wave?
Investment Which one has the higher current level or star strength, and which can you afford to upgrade now?
Buff access Can adjacent support buffs reach its tile without displacing essential control?
Damage compatibility Does its damage type work against the map’s immunities or special enemies?
Leak control Does the monster itself help stop enemies, or will another slot have to provide that job?
Mode fit Will it survive or meet the special rules of the selected mode?

Pick the option that wins this comparison for your current stage, not the option that would be strongest in a theoretical endgame account.

Use the Mighty–Kevin–Speedy core when it fits your account

The reviewed stage guide uses Mighty–Kevin–Speedy as a practical starter formation, conditional on ownership and affordability. Treat it as a framework, not a universal solution. Put your affordable carry in the position where both support pieces can help it, then use the remaining slots for control, leak coverage, and utility.

What the support placement is meant to do

Community guidance describes Mighty as increasing attack for horizontally adjacent monsters. It describes Speedy as increasing attack and ability-casting speed for horizontally adjacent monsters. Those are player-reported mechanics, not a substitute for the current game’s own descriptions, so verify the displayed effects in your version.

The layout goal is straightforward: place the intended carry between, or otherwise horizontally adjacent to, the supports whose buffs you want active. A support that is powerful on paper contributes nothing to that carry if it is outside the stated adjacency range.

Suggested role map

Position or job Use it for Adjustment when it fails
Central buffed tile Your strongest affordable carry Move the carry until every intended adjacent buff reaches it.
Adjacent support tiles Mighty, Speedy, or equivalent attack and cadence support Replace a support if its buff cannot reach the carry or its upgrade cost is too high.
Approach lane Stuns, slows, or other control before enemies enter the kill zone Move control earlier if enemies cross the damage area before dying.
Exit or leak lane Cleanup damage or a second control option Add coverage only after the main carry is receiving the investment it needs.
Remaining slots Utility, mode-specific survival, or a compatible damage type Do not fill a slot merely to make the formation look complete.

Place control where it buys time, not where it looks tidy

Control monsters earn their place by extending the time enemies spend inside your damage pattern. A stun or slow placed after the exit may stop one leak but will not help the carry eliminate the pack earlier. Start control on the approach to the kill zone, then add a second control point near the escape route only if the first one is insufficient.

When to use another row

If your supports must remain horizontally adjacent to the carry, keep stalling or control monsters in other rows where they do not break that buff geometry. This lets the damage core remain stable while control handles the enemies that would otherwise pass through.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not sacrifice the carry’s buff range casually

Moving a support one tile to fit a new control monster can silently remove an attack or casting-speed benefit. After every rearrangement, check which monsters are actually adjacent and run the problem wave again. A visually balanced formation is less important than the active effects shown by the game.

Substitute by role when you do not own the suggested monsters

Roster-specific advice must be conditional because a lineup that clears one account may be impossible on another. If you do not have Mighty, Speedy, or Kevin, preserve the jobs rather than the names:

  • Carry substitute: use your highest-level, highest-star affordable damage dealer whose damage type works on the stage.
  • Attack-buff substitute: use an owned monster that increases nearby or adjacent damage, if its range can reach the carry.
  • Cadence substitute: use a support that improves attack frequency or ability-casting speed when the carry’s ability cycle is the bottleneck.
  • Control substitute: use your most reliable stun, slow, or stalling monster when enemies leave the kill zone alive.
  • Leak-cover substitute: use a second damage source or late-lane controller only after the main carry and its supports are adequately funded.
  • Survival substitute: use a defensive or mode-required monster only when the selected challenge actually demands survival.

When asking for a precise formation, include your owned monsters, levels, stars, stage, mode, and the point where the wave fails. Without those details, no exact lineup can be guaranteed; role-based substitutions are safer than copying an endgame screenshot.

Spend upgrades with a decision loop

Use this order as a loop rather than a permanent ranking. After each meaningful upgrade, replay the failing wave and reassess.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Raise the carry first. Continue until enemies no longer survive because of an obvious damage shortfall.
  2. Improve the attack support. If the carry is close to clearing but needs more output, invest in Mighty or your equivalent adjacent attack buff when that upgrade produces more value than another carry level.
  3. Improve attack cadence. Use Speedy’s placement, or an equivalent casting-speed support, when ability timing or attack frequency is delaying kills.
  4. Add control. If enemies still cross the kill zone too quickly, invest in a stun, slow, or staller and place it before the escape point.
  5. Add survival only when required. Defensive spending is justified for a mode or objective that demands it, not as a reflex on every normal stage.
  6. Stabilize before farming. Once the stage clears consistently, move farming to a harder stage only when completion remains reliable and the time or reward improvement is worthwhile.

This order prevents a common mistake: buying small upgrades for every monster while the main carry remains unable to finish targets.

Adapt the formation to the game mode

A layout that works in ordinary progression can fail when a mode changes its damage, immunity, control, or survival rules. The reviewed guide separates several contexts; use the following adjustments rather than treating one screenshot as a universal answer.

Classic progression

Prioritize a stable carry-and-support core. Add one control option if enemies leak, then fill remaining slots with cleanup or utility. The goal is dependable advancement, not a formation optimized for a later farming stage.

Farming

Use the hardest stage you can clear consistently, then compare completion time rather than selecting a stage only because its nominal rewards look higher. A slower, unreliable clear may produce less usable income than a slightly easier stage that finishes every run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Nightmare

Expect the same damage core to need stronger control or a damage type that fits the stage’s rules. Do not assume a normal-map formation remains valid. The current store listing notes that Hard and Nightmare level requirements were reduced and that coins and green orbs were increased from the Ice Queen map onward; those are update notes, not a promise that every account has identical thresholds or rewards.

Pantheon challenges

Check the challenge’s restrictions before committing your coins. If a rule limits usable monsters, damage types, or survival conditions, build around the legal carry first and use support and control to compensate for what is missing.

Use the same failure diagnosis, but verify whether the event’s enemy behavior or immunities invalidate your normal damage choice. Keep a compatible backup damage dealer available instead of forcing a favorite carry into an unfavorable rule set.

PvP

Completion speed and survival can matter differently from a standard wave clear. A formation designed only to kill a predictable progression lane may not provide the control, timing, or durability required by the opposing setup. Rebuild around the mode’s win condition rather than copying your farming board.

Fix common difficult-wave failures

“The first enemies die, but the large group leaks”

Your opening damage is probably adequate but your sustained damage or control is not. Keep the carry buffed, add a slow or stun before the exit, and check whether the carry’s ability is casting often enough. Do not replace every support before testing one control change.

“The carry is strong, but nothing happens to a special enemy”

Check for a damage-type immunity or map rule. Move to an owned damage dealer that the stage allows, even if its displayed level is lower. A compatible attack can outperform a stronger but ineffective one.

“I moved supports around and the result got worse”

Recheck horizontal adjacency. The move may have removed Mighty’s attack benefit, Speedy’s attack or casting-speed benefit, or both. Restore the carry’s buff geometry first, then place control in an unneeded row or lane.

“Adding more monsters did not improve the clear”

The new slot may be underleveled, outside the relevant range, or duplicating a role you already cover. Return the coins to the carry and the support that directly affects it, and add a new monster only when it solves a visible failure.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I clear once but fail the next attempt”

Your setup is at the threshold. Repeat the wave to check whether timing, enemy order, or ability cadence is causing the variation. A small carry or control upgrade can make the clear stable; otherwise farm a reliable earlier stage before attempting the harder one again.

Keep exact recipes current

Summoner’s Greed is an evolving mobile game. The official Google Play listing describes summoned monsters, leveling, and idle battles, and its recent notes include changes to Hard and Nightmare levels and rewards from the Ice Queen map onward. Community guides can also become stale after balance changes. Treat exact level recipes, stage thresholds, reward amounts, and tier rankings as version-sensitive unless the current game confirms them.

The most durable advice is therefore procedural: inspect the failure, choose an affordable carry, make adjacent buffs reach it, place control before leaks occur, match damage to immunities, and upgrade only the role that addresses the current problem. Recheck the board after patches or when switching modes.
