Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse the server’s in-game admin chat or RCON for routine bans: /ban <Username/AGID> <duration> <banreason> <userbanreason>. To remove a ban, run /unban <playername>, /unban <IPAddress>, or /unban <AGID>. Both command methods update bans.txt automatically. If you edit that file yourself, save one correctly formatted entry per line and run /reloadbans when the change must take effect immediately.

Choose the right way to manage a ban
There are three documented ways to ban a player on a Path of Titans server. In-game admin chat and RCON are the recommended routine options because they write the ban to bans.txt automatically and reduce formatting mistakes. Direct editing of bans.txt is useful when you need to make a controlled offline change or prepare several entries. The Spectator Tool is convenient while you are watching a player, but the hosting documentation states that bans made there are permanent.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →| Method | Best use | Speed | Error risk | Duration behavior | One player or many |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| In-game admin chat | Normal live moderation | Immediate command entry | Lower than manual editing because the server writes the file | Uses the duration you specify, including a permanent value where supported | Best for individual actions |
| RCON | Administration from outside the game | Immediate command entry when connected | Lower than manual editing when the command is entered correctly | Uses the duration you specify | Best for individual actions and remote administration |
bans.txt |
Offline maintenance or a controlled batch of entries | Requires editing and a reload for an immediate result | Higher; field order and punctuation matter | Unix timestamp sets an expiry; 0 is permanent |
Useful for several lines at once |
| Spectator Tool | Removing a player while viewing them in Spectator Mode | Fast in the player list | Low entry effort, but no temporary duration | Permanent according to the hosting documentation | Best for a single observed player |
Whichever method you choose, the staff account must have the server’s ban permission. Give that permission only to people you trust. The Path of Titans Hosting Wiki warns: “Please only give these permissions to a role/user that you can trust. You will be responsible for the consequence of misuse of these commands on your server.”

What you need before issuing a ban
- Ban permission: Confirm that the account or role issuing the command is allowed to use ban administration.
- A reliable identifier: You can target a player by Alderon Games username or AGID. Use the AGID when names are ambiguous.
- A duration: Decide whether the action should last seconds, minutes, hours, days, or be permanent through the file method or Spectator Tool.
- Two reasons: Prepare an administrator-facing reason and a player-facing reason. Keep them separate so staff have the internal context while the banned player receives a clear explanation.
- A verification step: Check the identifier and duration before confirming a permanent action. A mistyped name or AGID can affect the wrong player.
Ban a player with in-game chat or RCON
The hosting documentation recommends “adding bans with RCON commands or in-game chat commands!” This is the normal path for a live server because the command parser handles the entry and adds the result to bans.txt.
- Open the server’s in-game text chat, or connect to the server through RCON.
- Confirm that your staff account has the
banpermission. - Identify the target by Alderon Games username or AGID. Prefer the AGID if more than one player could match the displayed name.
- Enter the command in this form:
/ban <Username/AGID> <duration> <banreason> <userbanreason> - Replace every placeholder. Supply the duration with one of the documented suffixes:
sfor seconds, mfor minutes, hfor hours, ordfor days. - Submit the command and check the server response or moderation log available to your staff. Verify that the intended player was targeted and that the duration and reasons are correct.
For reasons containing spaces, quote the multi-word text as shown in the hosting command examples. Keep the administrator reason and user reason in their respective positions; swapping them can expose internal notes to the player or leave the player-facing explanation unclear.
Command format and duration units
| Part | What to enter | Documented examples or rule |
|---|---|---|
<Username/AGID> |
The Alderon Games username or AGID of the player | Use AGID when a username is ambiguous |
<duration> |
A number followed by a unit | 60s, 60m, 60h, or 60d |
<banreason> |
The reason visible to administrators | Quote it when it contains multiple words |
<userbanreason> |
The explanation shown to the banned player | Keep it distinct from the internal reason |
The units are part of the command syntax. Entering only a number, using an unsupported suffix, or placing the reason fields in the wrong order can cause the command to fail or produce an unintended result. If a ban must be permanent, use a method and format that explicitly supports permanence rather than assuming that an omitted duration will do so.

/unban <playername>/unban <IPAddress>/unban <AGID>
- Open in-game admin chat or connect through RCON.
- Confirm that the account has the permission required to manage bans.
- Choose the player name, IP address, or AGID form that matches the ban you need to remove.
- Submit the corresponding
/unbancommand. - Have the player try again only after you have confirmed that the ban was removed. If you edited
bans.txtdirectly as part of the process, use/reloadbansas described below.
Using the wrong identifier will not remove a different type of ban. For example, an AGID-based entry and an IP-address entry are not interchangeable command arguments; match the command to the value recorded for that ban.
Edit bans.txt directly
Direct file editing is appropriate when the server is offline, when you are applying a carefully reviewed set of entries, or when command access is unavailable. It is more error-prone than chat or RCON because every character and field must be in the expected position.
File location and line structure
Create or edit bans.txt in the server’s Saved folder. Put one ban on each line, using this exact structure:
AGID:UnixTimestamp:AdminReason:UserReason
The four fields are separated by colons:
- AGID: The Alderon Games identifier of the player.
- UnixTimestamp: The expiry time for a temporary ban. A future timestamp keeps the ban active until that time.
- AdminReason: The reason retained for administrators.
- UserReason: The reason presented to the banned player.
Use 0 in the Unix timestamp field for a permanent ban. Do not replace the colon separators with commas, add labels, or put multiple bans on one physical line. Preserve the distinction between the administrator and player-facing reason fields.

Safely preparing a manual entry
- Make a copy of the existing
bans.txtbefore changing it so you can recover from a formatting mistake. - Check the player’s AGID against your moderation record.
- Choose either a future Unix timestamp for a temporary ban or
0for a permanent ban. - Write the administrator reason and user reason after the timestamp, in that order.
- Place each additional ban on its own line.
- Save the file in the server’s Saved folder without changing its name or extension.
- Run
/reloadbansif the change must be recognized immediately.
The hosting documentation says the ban file otherwise hot reloads about once a minute. That interval is approximate, so use /reloadbans rather than waiting when a ban or unban needs to apply at once.
Reload the ban list after a file change
After editing bans.txt outside the game, run:
/reloadbans
Run it through in-game admin chat or RCON with an account that has the appropriate administrative permission. This loads the saved file immediately instead of relying on the normal hot-reload behavior, which the documentation describes as occurring about once a minute.
If the command does not produce the expected result, check the file first: confirm that it is in the server’s Saved folder, that every line follows AGID:UnixTimestamp:AdminReason:UserReason, and that the file was saved after the last edit. A reload cannot correct a malformed line or a wrong identifier.

Ban from Spectator Mode
When you are already observing a player in Spectator Mode, select Ban beside that player’s name and enter an optional reason. This is the quickest interface for a single player you are actively watching, but it has a critical limitation: the hosting documentation states, “Bans via this method are permanent.”

Use this tool only when a permanent ban is intentional. For a temporary action, use in-game chat, RCON, or a correctly prepared bans.txt entry with a future Unix timestamp.
Temporary versus permanent bans
Temporary bans through chat or RCON
Specify the desired interval with the documented suffix: seconds (s), minutes (m), hours (h), or days (d). The number and suffix must be attached, such as 60s, 60m, 60h, or 60d.
Temporary bans in the file
Use a future Unix timestamp in the second field. The timestamp represents when the ban expires; keep the AGID and both reason fields unchanged unless those details also need correction.
Permanent bans
For a file entry, use 0 as the Unix timestamp. The Spectator Tool also creates a permanent ban according to the hosting documentation. Do not select either permanent path until the identifier and staff decision have been checked.
Best Value
How reasons should be written
The command and file formats deliberately provide two reason fields. The administrator-facing reason records why staff took action; the user-facing reason tells the player what happened. Write the latter so it is understandable without exposing private staff notes.
- Keep reasons specific enough for another administrator to understand the decision.
- Use quotation marks around multi-word reasons in chat or RCON commands, following the documented command examples.
- In
bans.txt, retain the exact colon-separated field order and keep one complete entry per line. - Review punctuation before submitting a permanent action; a misplaced separator can shift the remaining fields.
Permissions and safeguards for staff
Ban commands are not general player commands. The chat-command documentation says administrative commands require the appropriate role permissions. Restrict the ban permission to trusted staff, and periodically review which roles and users still have it.
- Verify the player identifier twice, especially before a permanent ban.
- Prefer AGID when displayed usernames could refer to more than one person.
- Confirm the duration suffix before sending a temporary ban.
- Read both reason fields back to yourself so the internal and player-facing explanations are not reversed.
- For a file edit, check every colon and line break before running
/reloadbans. - Keep a backup of the previous file when performing batch or offline changes.
Ban several players or work offline
Chat and RCON are efficient for one live moderation decision at a time. Direct editing is the practical option when you must prepare several entries while the server is not being actively moderated. Add one correctly formatted line for each AGID, review the complete file, save it, and run /reloadbans once the file is ready.

Troubleshooting failed bans and unbans
The command is rejected or has no effect
- Confirm that the staff account has the
banpermission. - Check the initial slash and the command spelling:
/ban,/unban, or/reloadbans. - Recheck the argument order and make sure the duration includes
s,m,h, ord. - Use the player’s AGID if the username is ambiguous.
- Quote multi-word reasons in chat or RCON.
A manual entry does not load
- Verify that
bans.txtis in the server’s Saved folder and was saved after editing. - Check that every line follows
AGID:UnixTimestamp:AdminReason:UserReason. - Ensure there is one ban per line and that the timestamp is either a valid future value or
0for permanent. - Run
/reloadbansto force an immediate read instead of waiting for the approximately one-minute hot reload.
The wrong player was affected
Stop and verify the AGID or other identifier before making another change. Do not issue a second permanent command merely to compensate for an uncertain first one. Correct the specific entry with the matching /unban form, then apply the intended ban only after the identity is confirmed.
A player is muted but still able to play
A ban controls server access; it is separate from communication moderation. The commands /mute and /servermute affect communication and are not substitutes for /ban or /unban.
Recommended operating checklist
- Identify the player by username, and use AGID when there is any ambiguity.
- Confirm that the acting staff account has
banpermission. - Choose the method: chat or RCON for routine live action,
bans.txtfor controlled offline or batch work, and Spectator Tool only when a permanent ban is intended. - Set the duration explicitly, using
s,m,h, ord, or use the documented permanent format. - Enter separate administrator and player-facing reasons.
- Review the complete command or file line before applying it.
- After a manual edit, run
/reloadbanswhen immediate activation matters. - For an unban, match the command argument to the identifier type recorded in the ban.
Which method should you use?
For most moderation incidents, use in-game chat or RCON. They are the documented recommendation, automatically add the ban to bans.txt, and support a specified duration. Use direct file editing when you need deliberate offline control or several entries, accepting the extra formatting checks. Use the Spectator Tool only for a single player when you have deliberately decided on a permanent ban.
