The safe answer depends on which game files you mean. The current PC release of skate. is an online multiplayer game, and no authoritative local save-and-restore procedure has been established for its official progression or settings. Steam Cloud may synchronize files selected by the developer, but it is not a guaranteed rollback point. ReSkate is a separate project with documented local profile, settings, save, mod and launcher paths. Do not copy ReSkate files into an official skate. installation or assume that an exported replay is a save.
Before changing anything, identify the build, let the game and launcher close completely, preserve the original folder structure, and make a dated copy that you can remove without touching the active installation. The procedure below shows what can be backed up with confidence and where the evidence stops.

The available documentation does not establish an official local folder that can be copied to restore online progression, nor does it verify that modifying the client is supported.
- ReSkate: a separate project whose README documents local offline profiles, game settings and saves, mod folders and launcher settings. Its paths belong to ReSkate, not to the official release.
Check the shortcut, launcher and executable before you copy anything. A folder containing ReSkate, a ReSkate launcher, or the ReSkate-specific Mods layout is not evidence that the official game uses the same files. Conversely, a folder named Skate may contain ordinary game data or replay exports rather than progression.

What Steam Cloud can and cannot protect
Coverage is chosen by the developer
Steam Cloud can store game settings, save games, profile statistics and other user-specific data, but the developer decides which files are included. A game displaying Cloud support does not mean that every setting, cache, profile field or local configuration is synchronized. Steam also stores synchronized files in platform-specific default directories; the game-specific filenames and subfolders depend on its configuration.
Check Cloud before you rely on it
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Select the game, open its Properties, and remain on General.
- Check the game-level Steam Cloud synchronization setting. If it is disabled, Steam will not synchronize the files controlled by that setting.
- Check the game’s Steam store listing for its Cloud indicator. Treat that indicator as evidence of a configured feature, not as proof that a particular save or setting is covered.
- Wait for Steam to finish any pending synchronization before closing the client. If Steam reports a conflict, do not choose an option blindly: preserve the local files first if you need to investigate them.
Cloud is synchronization, not a verified backup
Steam warns that lost Cloud data may not be recoverable. A later synchronization can also propagate a damaged or unwanted local state. Cloud therefore should be one layer of protection, not your only pre-modification copy and not an assumed “undo” button.
| Question | What the available guidance establishes |
|---|---|
| Does Steam Cloud exist for the game? | Check the store listing and the game’s Library → Properties → General setting. |
| Which files are synchronized? | Developer-configured; support does not prove that every save or setting is included. |
| Where are the files locally? | Steam uses platform-specific default directories, while the game determines the actual file set. |
| Can Cloud restore a broken mod installation? | Not guaranteed. Steam describes possible data loss as potentially unrecoverable. |
Back up the official skate. installation without guessing a save path
There is no verified official local restore recipe in the available documentation. That means the responsible procedure is to preserve what you can identify, while clearly labeling it as a copy of local files rather than proof that online progress can be restored.

Before installing a mod
- Record the identity of the installation. Note whether you launched it from Steam, the install drive, the executable name and the date. Keep this note with the backup so an older copy is not mistaken for a current one.
- Finish synchronization. In Steam, allow Cloud activity to complete. Do not begin file edits while a sync or conflict dialog is active.
- Exit every related process. Quit the game, its launcher and Steam if you need to move or archive files that may still be open. A running process can overwrite a copy while you are making it.
- Use only locations you can identify with confidence. Back up a folder you have confirmed belongs to the official installation or to a user setting you deliberately created. Do not label a guessed directory as the official save location.
- Copy, do not move. Create a new folder with a date and a description such as
skate-pre-mod-2026-10-17. Preserve every subfolder and filename. A portable external SSD is an optional destination when you have authority to copy the files; no particular drive, capacity or brand is required. - Keep the original untouched. Do not delete, rename or replace the active files until the copy has completed. Compare the copy’s folder structure with the source before you start modding.
- Write down what the copy represents. State whether it contains installation files, settings, or an unidentified local folder. Explicitly note that it is not a verified backup of server-side progression.
What this copy does not prove
- It does not prove that official skate. progression is stored locally.
- It does not prove that the service will accept copied files after a reinstall or account change.
- It does not establish that client modifications are supported by the game’s publisher or compatible with its anticheat.
- It does not turn Steam Cloud into a historical restore point.
If your objective is to protect official online progress, first consult the current game’s own support guidance. Do not promise yourself a rollback merely because a folder can be copied.
ReSkate’s documented local paths
ReSkate’s README separates its data by purpose. These paths are specific to that project and may change with a future build, so verify the README that accompanies the version you are running.
| Data | Documented location | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Offline profile | %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateprofilesoffline |
Local offline profile data for ReSkate. |
| ReSkate game settings and saves | %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateGame |
Project-specific settings and save data. |
| Mod files | Mods<mod name> beside Skate.exe |
Files loaded by the ReSkate installation’s mod layout. |
| Mod order | Modsmods.json |
The ordering information used by ReSkate. |
| Launcher settings | ReSkateLauncher.settings.json beside the launcher |
Launcher configuration, separate from the game profile. |
How to make a ReSkate backup
- Close ReSkate and its launcher. Wait for both processes to disappear before copying data.
- Press Windows key + R, enter
%LOCALAPPDATA%, and press Enter. - Open
ReSkate. CopyprofilesofflineandGameinto a dated backup folder while retaining their relative paths. - Open the ReSkate installation directory, the directory containing
Skate.exe. Copy the entireModsfolder, including each mod subfolder andmods.json. - Copy
ReSkateLauncher.settings.jsonfrom beside the launcher. Keep it separate in your notes so you know it controls the launcher rather than the in-game profile. - Record the ReSkate build or README date alongside the backup. A path documented for one build may not apply unchanged to another.
- Open the backup and confirm that the expected files and subfolders are present. Do not edit the backup while testing a mod.
How to roll back ReSkate files cautiously
A copied ReSkate folder gives you a file-level recovery option for data you control, but it is not a guarantee for every build. To test a rollback, close ReSkate, rename the active profilesoffline, Game or Mods directory rather than deleting it, and copy the corresponding backup directory into the documented location. Restore mods.json with the mod files it references, not by itself. Launch only after you have preserved the newly generated files, then verify the profile and settings. If the rollback fails, close the program and restore the renamed active directory; do not repeatedly overwrite both copies.

Do not mistake replay exports for saves
A community report places exported video clips under %LOCALAPPDATA%SkatedataVideos. That is evidence about replay exports only. It is not evidence that the folder contains progression, settings or a restorable profile.
Back up this folder when you want to preserve recorded clips, but label it as a replay archive. Never use its presence to infer an official save location, and do not replace a profile or settings folder with its contents.
Steam Cloud, manual copies and ReSkate: choose the right layer
| Option | Data covered | Belongs to | Separate copy outside active data? | Restore confidence |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Steam Cloud | Only files selected by the developer; may include settings, saves or profile statistics. | The Steam game configuration; coverage varies. | Not under your direct control as a dated archive. | Synchronization is available when configured, but recovery is not guaranteed. |
| Manual official-game copy | Only the local files you can identify and copy. | Official skate. installation or user data. | Yes, if you create and retain the copy. | No verified local restore method for official progression or settings. |
| ReSkate local backup | Offline profile, game settings and saves, mods, mod order and launcher settings when copied from their documented paths. | ReSkate only. | Yes. | Useful for project-local files, subject to the build’s current documentation. |
| Replay archive | Exported video clips. | The reported SkatedataVideos location. |
Yes. | Restores clips, not saves or settings. |
Modding precautions that prevent avoidable loss
Change one thing at a time
Install a single mod, launch, and test before adding another. If several files change at once, you cannot tell which change caused a failure or which backup needs to be restored.
Keep a clean reference copy
Retain one untouched archive and a separate working copy. Never let an automatic cleanup, mod manager or test overwrite the only archive. Include the date, build and purpose in the folder name.
Preserve load order and dependencies
For ReSkate, Modsmods.json controls ordering. Backing up mod folders without this file can produce a different load sequence. Conversely, restoring the JSON without the mod directories it names can leave the launcher with missing entries.

Respect the official game’s online status
The official PC release is presented as an online multiplayer title, and its listing includes EA Javelin Anticheat. The available sources do not establish a supported modding workflow or say that local edits are harmless. Confirm current publisher guidance before changing official client files, and separate any ReSkate experimentation from the official installation.
Troubleshooting after a mod change
| Symptom | First action | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Steam shows a Cloud conflict | Stop and preserve the local files before selecting a conflict option. | That the newer timestamp is the correct or complete save. |
| ReSkate starts with default settings | Close it, check %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateGame and profilesoffline, and compare them with the dated copy. |
That files from SkatedataVideos can restore the profile. |
| A ReSkate mod is missing | Check the mod subfolder beside Skate.exe and the matching entry in Modsmods.json. |
That restoring the order file alone restores the mod. |
| The official game loses a setting | Use the game’s current support documentation and Steam Cloud status; do not substitute ReSkate paths. | That an arbitrary local Skate folder is an official save directory. |
| A copied file appears to do nothing | Confirm the exact build, path and permissions, then retain the newly generated files before another test. | That every local file is read on startup or that online progress is client-side. |
Verify and label the backup before modding
A backup is useful only if you can identify what it contains and match it to the installation you intend to change. After the copy finishes, open the backup folder without launching the game from it. Confirm that the expected top-level directories, filenames and relative paths are present. For ReSkate, that means seeing both profilesoffline and Game, plus the mod directories and Modsmods.json when mods are part of the archive.
Use a name that records the date, project and purpose, such as ReSkate-pre-mod-2026-10-17 or skate-local-files-unverified-2026-10-17. A short note should state the executable or launcher, the drive, the build or README date, and whether the folder is an installation copy, ReSkate profile data, launcher configuration or replay video. This prevents a replay archive or an older test copy from being mistaken for a usable profile backup.

Keep the untouched archive in a different location from the working game folder. An external SSD is optional, but any destination should remain available while you test. Do not rename the original active directories until you are deliberately performing a rollback, and do not edit the archive to make a mod work; create a new working copy instead.
When reinstalling or changing drives
For official skate., a copied installation folder is not a confirmed progression restore. Reinstalling, signing into another account or changing the Steam installation drive may produce a different local state, and the available guidance does not establish which files the service will accept. Keep the copy as evidence of what was local, then follow the current publisher and Steam instructions rather than forcing files into an arbitrary directory.
For ReSkate, restore only into the matching documented locations and only after closing the launcher and game. Preserve any newly created folders by renaming them first. Copy profilesoffline and Game back under %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkate; copy the mod folder beside the correct Skate.exe; and put ReSkateLauncher.settings.json beside the launcher. Keep the relative structure intact. If the build has changed, check its README before replacing anything.

A practical pre-mod checklist
- Have you identified official skate. versus ReSkate?
- Is Steam Cloud enabled or disabled intentionally, and has synchronization finished?
- Are the game and launcher closed?
- Did you copy rather than move files?
- Does the backup have a date, build note and clear description?
- For ReSkate, did you include both
profilesofflineandGame? - For ReSkate mods, did you include each mod directory and
Modsmods.json? - Did you copy
ReSkateLauncher.settings.jsonif launcher configuration matters? - Did you keep replay videos under a separate replay label?
- Is the untouched archive stored separately from the working installation?
- Have you avoided claiming that this copy can restore official server-side progress?
Bottom line for official skate. and ReSkate
Use Steam Cloud as a synchronization aid, not as your only backup. For the official PC release, no supported local save-restore recipe is verified here, so do not guess at a path or promise that copied files protect online progression. For ReSkate, back up the documented offline profile, game settings and saves, mod folders, mod-order file and launcher settings separately, and keep the build information with the archive. Treat %LOCALAPPDATA%SkatedataVideos as replay storage only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where are official skate. save files on PC?
No authoritative location or restore procedure for official skate. progression was established. The game is presented as an online multiplayer title, so do not label an arbitrary Skate folder as a save directory. Check the current publisher guidance and Steam Cloud configuration before copying or editing files.
Will Steam Cloud restore my progress after a mod breaks the game?
Not necessarily. Steam Cloud synchronizes only the files selected by the developer, and Steam warns that lost Cloud data may not be recoverable. A conflict or damaged local state can also be synchronized. Preserve a dated local copy before modding instead of treating Cloud as a guaranteed rollback.
How do I check whether Steam Cloud is enabled?
In Steam, open Library, select the game, choose Properties, and check the General page for the game-level Cloud setting. The store listing also indicates whether Cloud is configured. Neither check proves that a particular save, setting or profile field is included.
Where does ReSkate store its offline profile?
The ReSkate README documents %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateprofilesoffline. Close ReSkate and its launcher, then copy that folder into a dated archive while retaining the relative path. This location is for ReSkate and should not be used for the official Steam release.
Where are ReSkate settings and saves stored?
ReSkate documents its project-specific game settings and saves under %LOCALAPPDATA%ReSkateGame. Back up that directory separately from the offline profile, and record the build or README date because paths can change between versions.

Which ReSkate files must be copied with mods?
Copy the complete Mods<mod name> layout beside Skate.exe, including every mod directory, and include Modsmods.json. The JSON controls ordering; restoring it without the directories it references can leave missing mods, while restoring folders without it can change load order.
Is %LOCALAPPDATA%SkatedataVideos a save folder?
A community report identifies that location for exported video clips. Treat it as a replay archive only. It is not evidence of progression, settings or a restorable profile, so do not substitute its contents for ReSkate or official save data.
Can I restore ReSkate by copying files over the active folders?
Use a cautious file-level rollback. Close the game and launcher, rename the active profilesoffline, Game or Mods directory instead of deleting it, and copy the matching backup into the documented location. Preserve newly generated files and test one change at a time.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Should I back up the ReSkate launcher settings too?
If launcher configuration matters, copy ReSkateLauncher.settings.json from beside the launcher. Keep it identified as launcher configuration rather than profile data, and restore it only beside the matching launcher build.
Is modding the official skate. client supported?
The available game listing identifies online multiplayer features and EA Javelin Anticheat, but it does not establish a supported modding workflow. Confirm current publisher guidance before changing official client files, and keep ReSkate experiments in a separate installation and backup set.
The Bottom Line
Back up by identity, not by guesswork. Steam Cloud is developer-configured synchronization, not a guaranteed restore point. Official skate. local progression remains unverified, while ReSkate has documented profile, game, mod and launcher paths. Keep dated copies, preserve relative paths, separate replay videos from saves, and never mix ReSkate data with the official installation.
