Yes. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered supports Nintendo Switch 2 Save Data Cloud, so a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership lets you upload the current save and download it to another Switch 2. Use System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud, select the Nintendo Account user and the game, then choose the backup or download command. The same account must be used on the destination console.

What you need before backing up

Nintendo lists The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered as a Switch 2 title with Save Data Cloud support. The cloud feature is not included with an offline console alone: Nintendo says a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required. The save is associated with the Nintendo Account user who owns it, not simply with the console or the game card.

  • A Nintendo Switch 2 running the user profile that contains the remaster’s save.
  • An active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for that Nintendo Account.
  • Oblivion Remastered installed on the Switch 2. The destination console also needs the game installed and updated before a restore.
  • An internet connection for the cloud upload or download.

Save Data Cloud is a backup and recovery route for the Switch 2 version. It is not a mechanism for sharing progress with PC, PlayStation or Xbox, and it cannot convert an original 2006 Oblivion save into a remaster save.

How to back up an Oblivion Remastered save to the cloud

Upload after you have finished playing, especially before moving consoles or deleting the game. Returning to the HOME menu first gives the game time to write the newest save to local storage.

  1. Finish your session. Save in the game as usual, then return to the Switch 2 HOME menu. Do not shut down or remove the game while it is still closing.
  2. Open System Settings. Select the gear icon from the HOME menu.
  3. Open Data Management. In System Settings, choose Data Management, then choose Save Data Cloud.
  4. Select the correct user. Choose the Nintendo Account user whose Oblivion Remastered save you want to protect. If several people use the console, each user has separate save data and separate cloud entries.
  5. Select the game. Choose The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered from the list of supported software.
  6. Start the upload. Choose the command to back up or upload the save data. The exact wording can vary with the system software, but it is the upload or backup action on this title’s Save Data Cloud page.
  7. Wait for completion. Leave the console connected until the transfer finishes and the system confirms it. A partially completed transfer is not a dependable recovery copy.

The cloud copy represents the save that existed when you started the upload. If you play further afterward, those later changes are local until you run the backup process again.

How to restore the save on another Switch 2

Use this procedure when replacing a Switch 2, setting up a second console, or recovering progress after local save data has been lost. The destination must use the same Nintendo Account user that created the cloud backup.

  1. Sign in to the same Nintendo Account user. Add or select that user during Switch 2 setup. A different user, even on the same Nintendo Account family group, will not be the owner of the original save.
  2. Install and update the game. Make sure Oblivion Remastered is installed on the destination Switch 2 and has finished updating.
  3. Open the cloud controls. Go to System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud.
  4. Select the user and game. Choose the user who owns the save, then choose The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
  5. Download the backup. Choose the command to download the cloud save and wait for the transfer to finish.
  6. Check the game’s load menu. Start the game and inspect the available saves before creating new ones. This confirms that the expected character and progress are present.

Downloading a cloud copy can replace the local save for that user on the destination console. Treat the download as a replacement operation, not as a merge of two timelines.

Prevent an accidental overwrite during restore

The most important restore decision is whether the destination has newer progress than the cloud copy. For example, you might play on a replacement console before remembering that its cloud backup is several hours old. Downloading that older copy can remove the newer local progress for the user.

  • If the destination has nothing important: Download the cloud backup and then check the game’s load menu.
  • If the destination has newer progress: Do not download immediately. Upload the destination’s current save first, or preserve that progress through an appropriate console-transfer process. Only then decide which version should become the active local save.
  • If you are unsure which copy is newer: Stop before downloading and compare the saves in the game’s load menu where possible. A cloud download should be treated as destructive to the destination’s existing local copy.

Do not create fresh saves on the destination and assume the cloud service will combine them with the old character. Save Data Cloud provides a backup copy; it does not reconcile conflicting save histories.

Moving from an original Switch to Switch 2

Nintendo’s System Transfer feature is the direct migration route when you still have the original Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2 available. It uses local communication to move save data and settings from the old console to the new one.

Local System Transfer

  1. Keep both consoles available and connected to power during the migration.
  2. Start the Switch 2 setup or open the system-transfer controls as directed by Nintendo’s on-screen instructions.
  3. Choose the option to transfer from an existing Nintendo Switch and follow the pairing prompts on both consoles.
  4. Allow the transfer to finish before launching Oblivion Remastered on the Switch 2.
  5. Open the game and verify the expected save. After verification, create a fresh Save Data Cloud backup on the Switch 2.

The post-transfer cloud upload matters because it gives you a current Switch 2 recovery copy after the migration rather than relying only on the old console.

Temporary server upload when both consoles cannot stay together

Nintendo also documents a temporary server-upload route for owners who will not keep both consoles available at the same time. This is a migration service, not a permanent replacement for Save Data Cloud. Follow Nintendo’s transfer instructions, complete the download on the Switch 2 within the allowed transfer process, verify the game save, and then make a new Save Data Cloud backup.

Situation Best route What to verify afterward
The original Switch and Switch 2 are both available Nintendo System Transfer over local communication Launch the remaster on Switch 2, check the save, then upload it to Save Data Cloud
You cannot keep both consoles available for the migration Nintendo’s temporary server-upload transfer option Complete the download on Switch 2, check the save, then create a new cloud backup
You are replacing a Switch 2 and already have a cloud copy Save Data Cloud download Use the same user account and confirm the load menu before making new saves

Choosing between System Transfer and Save Data Cloud

The right method depends on the source console, your membership and the destination. Neither method is a cross-platform synchronization system.

Question Use System Transfer when… Use Save Data Cloud when…
Is the old console still available? Yes. You can place the original Switch and Switch 2 together and perform the migration. The old console is unavailable, or you already uploaded a backup.
Do you have Nintendo Switch Online? It is not the requirement that defines the local transfer route. A paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required.
Where is the destination? Another Nintendo console in the Switch family during Nintendo’s transfer process. Another Switch 2 using the same Nintendo Account user.
What kind of source save is present? A Switch-family save for the remaster that can be moved during console migration. A Switch 2 remaster save already uploaded to the cloud.
What happens to conflicting progress? The transfer moves the selected console data; it does not merge two separate timelines. Downloading can replace the destination user’s local save.

What will not work

There is no documented cross-save between Switch 2 and other platforms

Bethesda states: “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered does not support cross-save between different platforms.” A save made on Switch 2 should therefore not be expected to appear on PC, PlayStation or Xbox. Uploading the Switch 2 save to Nintendo’s cloud does not change its platform; it only backs up the Nintendo console version.

Bethesda separately documents Xbox Play Anywhere synchronization between Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app. That documentation does not provide a route for importing a Switch 2 save into Xbox or the Xbox PC app.

Original 2006 Oblivion saves cannot be imported

Bethesda also states: “The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered does not support save files from the original The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, you cannot transfer your progress.” An original Oblivion save is therefore not a valid restore source for the remaster. System Transfer can move compatible save data between Nintendo consoles, but it cannot convert the original game’s save format into remaster progress.

Troubleshooting common backup and restore problems

The game does not appear in Save Data Cloud

  • Confirm that you selected the user who actually played the game. The save belongs to that profile.
  • Check that the Nintendo Account has a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. Nintendo requires one for Save Data Cloud.
  • Confirm that you are using the Switch 2 version and that the game is installed. Nintendo specifically lists the remaster as supporting Save Data Cloud on Switch 2.
  • Return to the HOME menu, reopen the cloud controls and look again after the game has finished closing.

The download option is unavailable on the new console

  • Sign out of any substitute profile and select the exact Nintendo Account user that created the backup.
  • Install and update Oblivion Remastered before opening its Save Data Cloud entry.
  • Verify that the paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is active on that account.
  • Do not attempt to use a PC, PlayStation or Xbox account as the destination; Bethesda does not document cross-platform save support.

The restored character is older than expected

The cloud copy may have been uploaded before your latest session. Return to the original console, if it is available, and upload the newer local save. If the old console is not available, the most recent completed cloud upload is the copy that can be downloaded.

The destination already has a different character or newer saves

Stop before downloading. Preserve the destination progress by uploading it first or completing a suitable System Transfer, then choose which save should remain. A cloud download can replace the local save; it is not a side-by-side import.

The transfer stopped before completion

Reconnect the console to a stable internet connection, reopen System Settings > Data Management > Save Data Cloud, select the same user and game, and run the upload or download again. Do not assume a canceled or interrupted operation produced a usable backup.

Save-management habits that reduce risk

Back up at meaningful milestones

Upload after major quest progress, before changing consoles and before troubleshooting local storage. Because the upload captures a point-in-time copy, repeat it whenever you want the cloud version to include later play.

Keep the account identity consistent

Use one Nintendo Account user for the character you intend to move. Creating a second profile on the destination does not expose the first profile’s save, even if both profiles belong to the same household.

Verify before making new progress

After a restore or System Transfer, launch the game and inspect the load menu before saving over anything. This check catches wrong-user selections and unexpectedly old backups while the recovery decision is still reversible.

Do not rely on an undocumented retention or quota assumption

Nintendo’s official pages confirm the backup and download functions for compatible saves, but they do not publish a title-specific numeric quota or retention period for Oblivion Remastered. Keep important original-console or transfer options available until you have verified the restored save rather than assuming a particular number of cloud slots or days of retention.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Practical recovery scenarios

You bought a second Switch 2

On the first console, finish playing, return HOME and upload the save under the correct user. On the second console, sign in with that same user, install and update the game, download the backup through Save Data Cloud, and check the load menu. If you later play on both consoles, upload deliberately from the console containing the progress you want to preserve; the cloud copy is not an automatic merge.

Your original Switch still works

Use System Transfer while both consoles are available, verify the remaster on Switch 2, then make a new cloud backup. This avoids depending on an older cloud upload and gives you a current recovery copy after migration.

Your original Switch was lost, but you backed up recently

On the replacement Switch 2, use the same Nintendo Account user, install and update the game, and download the Save Data Cloud copy. The recovered progress will be no newer than the last completed upload.

You want to continue on a PC or another console brand

There is no documented path for that request. Bethesda’s cross-save statement excludes different platforms, and the Xbox Play Anywhere synchronization it documents is limited to Xbox consoles and the Xbox PC app. Keep the remaster save within the supported Switch 2 and Nintendo Account workflow.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You only have an original Oblivion save file

That file cannot be imported into the remaster. Start or continue the remaster on its supported platform rather than treating the original 2006 save as a backup source.
