Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Make and verify a fresh backup before installing a major One UI update. The safest practical approach is to use Samsung Cloud or Google-account backup for cloud copies, then add a Smart Switch backup to a computer or compatible external storage if the data is important. These services do not preserve exactly the same content, and an option appearing in Settings does not prove that your desired categories were selected or that the backup finished.
Connect to Wi-Fi, charge the phone, run the manual backup you choose, check its completion status and categories, and separately protect files and app data that the service may exclude. Samsung does not provide a blanket guarantee that every One UI update leaves every item untouched, so treat a verified copy as preparation rather than a promise of zero risk.

What to do before you tap Install
Use this order when an update is ready:
- Connect the Galaxy phone to a reliable Wi-Fi network and put it on sufficient power. Wi-Fi is recommended for Samsung Cloud backup or restore because mobile-data charges may apply.
- Run a manual Samsung Cloud or Google-account backup, depending on the services enabled on your phone.
- Create a second, local Smart Switch copy to a PC or Mac, or to compatible USB storage or a microSD card when your model supports it.
- Open the backup details or completion screen. Confirm that important categories were selected and that the operation finished without an error.
- Copy irreplaceable photos, videos, documents and recordings to a location outside the phone as an additional safeguard.
- Check critical apps individually. Banking apps, authenticator apps, secure folders, games and messaging services can use their own export, sync or transfer systems.
- Only then install the One UI update. Keep the local backup and any external copies until you have tested the updated phone.
Menu names and available categories differ by Galaxy model, One UI or Android version, country and carrier. If a label below is absent, look for the equivalent backup or accounts setting on your device rather than assuming the feature is unavailable everywhere.

Which backup route should you use?
| Route | Best use | What it can provide | Important limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung Cloud | Quick cloud copy of selected Galaxy settings and data | Manual Back up data and Restore data controls in Samsung account settings; supported call and message history, device-saved contacts and calendar, alarms, world clocks, timers, settings, selected Home-screen data, apps and Samsung app settings, and voice recordings. | Categories vary by model, software, country and carrier. Files larger than 1 GB cannot be backed up, and some large message files may be omitted. |
| Smart Switch to PC or Mac | A local copy stored separately from the handset | USB transfer through Samsung’s Smart Switch desktop app, with selectable data categories and a completion message. | Needs a computer and suitable cable. Transferable data types differ, and Samsung lists exclusions, including possible third-party messenger data. |
| Smart Switch to USB storage or microSD | A local copy without using a computer | Backup and restore to compatible external USB storage or a supported microSD card. | Capacity, connector and phone compatibility matter. Not every Galaxy model has a microSD slot or supports every storage accessory. |
| Google-account backup | Cloud backup integrated with Google account settings | On supported software, Settings > Accounts and backup > Google Drive > Back up data > Back up now, with a permission choice for Google Photos. | Menu paths and categories depend on Android version and account configuration. The documented path is for Android 12-era software; newer or older phones can show different wording. |
For a major update, combining one cloud route with one local Smart Switch route gives you different recovery options. It does not make either service complete: inspect the category list and protect app-specific data separately.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Back up to Samsung Cloud manually
Run the one-time backup
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Choose Samsung Cloud.
- Tap Back up data.
- Select the categories you want to include. Review the list rather than accepting a partial selection by habit.
- Tap Back up now.
- Leave the phone connected to Wi-Fi and power while it works. Wait for the completion indication before closing Settings.
A manual backup is preferable immediately before an update. Samsung Cloud’s automatic backup has conditions: the phone must be charging, its screen must be off, and it must be connected to Wi-Fi. An automatic backup therefore cannot be assumed to have run just because the feature is enabled.
Know what Samsung Cloud may contain
Samsung says Cloud backup can include phone-call and message history; contacts and calendar entries saved on the device; alarms, world clocks and timers; accessibility and other settings; selected Home-screen information; apps and Samsung app settings; and voice recordings. The selection presented on your phone is authoritative for that device.
Samsung states: “Files larger than 1 GB cannot be backed up to Samsung Cloud.” Some large message files may also be left out. Move a large recording, video or document to another storage location instead of relying on Cloud backup for it.
Do not confuse backup with synchronization
Samsung Cloud synchronization is a separate function from the manual device backup. Samsung lists sync for items such as Samsung Calendar, Samsung Notes, Samsung Browser, Samsung Pass and Samsung Health. Contacts and calendars configured with a Google account are not synchronized by Samsung Cloud. Check which account owns an item before deciding that a Samsung Cloud backup covers it.
Use Google-account backup as a second cloud route
Samsung’s UK support instructions document this path on Android 12-era devices:

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup.
- Tap Google Drive.
- Choose Back up data.
- Tap Back up now.
- If prompted, choose whether Google Photos can be included or used for photo backup.
Because Google backup labels and categories change with Android and account setup, use the screen’s own category list as the record of what will be restored. A Google Photos library, Google Contacts data and Google Drive files may be associated with your Google account without being identical to a full device backup. Confirm that you are backing up to the account you will still be able to access after the update.
Create a Smart Switch backup on a computer
Requirements
- A Windows PC or Mac with Samsung’s Smart Switch desktop application installed.
- A USB cable that supports data transfer, not only charging.
- Enough free space on the computer for the selected categories.
- At least 20% battery on the devices for the transfer; Samsung’s current setup guidance specifies this minimum.
Computer procedure
- Install and open Smart Switch on the PC or Mac.
- Unlock the Galaxy phone and connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
- Allow any USB, data-access or trust prompt shown on the phone.
- In Smart Switch, select Backup.
- Review the data categories and deselect items you intentionally do not want to copy, or select the categories you need.
- Start the backup and leave both devices connected.
- Wait for Smart Switch to display its completion message before disconnecting.
Do not pull out the USB cable during transfer. Samsung warns that disconnecting it can cause data loss or device damage. If the program reports insufficient computer storage, free space or select fewer categories, then run the backup again and verify completion.

Understand Smart Switch exclusions
Smart Switch does not guarantee that every app’s private data will transfer. Samsung specifically warns that data from some third-party messenger apps might not transfer. For a critical conversation, use that service’s own export, cloud backup or account-transfer procedure as well as Smart Switch. The same principle applies to authenticator registrations, encrypted vaults, DRM-protected media and apps that deliberately block device-to-device copying.
Back up with Smart Switch to USB storage or microSD
Smart Switch can use compatible external USB storage or a microSD card as a destination, allowing a local copy without a computer. This is optional, not a requirement for updating a Galaxy phone.
- Check the phone’s connector, supported USB-storage formats and available storage options in its specifications or Smart Switch screen.
- Connect a compatible USB storage device through the appropriate adapter, or insert a supported microSD card. Do not assume that every Galaxy model accepts microSD.
- Open Smart Switch and choose the backup option.
- Select the external storage destination when prompted.
- Choose the data categories and start the backup.
- Wait for the completion message, then use the phone’s safe-removal control before disconnecting storage.
Check free capacity first. Samsung’s setup instructions note that insufficient external-storage space can require deselecting backup items. A USB-C flash drive is one possible accessory, but verify the phone’s port, storage compatibility and drive capacity before purchasing or relying on it.

Verify that the backup is usable
Verification is the step most likely to be skipped. A backup control can finish with only a subset of the data selected.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Confirm completion: Reopen the service or Smart Switch and look for the latest completed date or completion message, not merely an enabled backup switch.
- Check categories: Compare the selected list with what matters to you: contacts, calendars, call history, messages, settings, recordings, photos, documents and app data.
- Check destination access: Make sure you know the Samsung or Google account used, and that a computer or external drive actually contains the newly created backup.
- Check large files: Samsung Cloud excludes files over 1 GB. Copy those items separately to a computer, external drive or another service.
- Check app-specific data: Open each essential app’s account, export or backup settings. Do this for messaging, authentication, finance, health, notes, games and secure-storage apps.
- Keep the copy: Do not delete the local backup or erase the external storage until the updated phone has restarted normally and your important data is present.
If the backup stops, reports an error or shows unexpected categories, resolve that problem and run it again. Do not treat a partial result as protection for the missing items.
Protect data that general backups may miss
Photos, videos and documents
Review folders outside the normal camera library, including Downloads, messaging attachments, screen recordings and files created by editing apps. Copy irreplaceable material to a computer or compatible external storage. Samsung Cloud’s 1 GB file limit makes a separate copy essential for any larger individual file.
Messages and chat histories
Samsung Cloud may include message history, but some large message files can be omitted. Smart Switch may not transfer data from some third-party messenger apps. Use each important messenger’s own export or cloud-backup setting and confirm that you know the account or password required to restore it.
Authenticators and security keys
Authenticator codes and hardware-security-key registrations can be deliberately protected from ordinary phone backups. Before updating, locate the app’s transfer or export process and store recovery codes somewhere accessible without the phone. Never assume that copying the app itself copies its credentials.

Apps with their own accounts
Banking, work, health, password-manager and game apps can require a fresh sign-in, device approval or in-app restore. Record any information the app requires before beginning an update, while keeping sensitive recovery data private.

When Samsung Cloud alone may be sufficient
Use it for a routine update when the categories shown on your phone cover your needs, important files are below the service’s limits or stored elsewhere, and you have verified a recent completed backup. It is the quickest option but remains dependent on changing eligibility by device and region.
When to add Google-account backup
Add Google’s route when your contacts, calendars, photos or other data are already organized in a Google account and you want an independent cloud path. Check the account and categories explicitly; Google and Samsung backups are not interchangeable copies.
When to make a Smart Switch copy as well
Use Smart Switch for irreplaceable data, a major operating-system transition, limited internet access, or any situation where you want a file stored outside the phone. A PC/Mac copy is easiest to inspect and retain; external storage is useful when no computer is available, provided the phone and storage device are compatible.

Troubleshooting before the update
The Samsung Cloud option or category is missing
Check that you are signed in to a Samsung account and that the phone is online, then inspect the current category list. Availability changes with model, One UI version, country and carrier. Use Smart Switch or Google-account backup for categories that the Cloud screen does not offer.

The backup is slow or will not start
Move to a stable Wi-Fi network, connect the charger, close unnecessary transfer apps and ensure there is enough destination capacity. For Smart Switch, confirm the phone is unlocked, the cable supports data, and both devices meet Samsung’s 20% battery guidance.
Smart Switch cannot see the phone
Reconnect the cable, accept the phone’s USB permission prompt, try another data-capable cable or USB port, and restart Smart Switch. Do not begin the One UI update until a complete backup is recorded.
External storage is full
Check free space in the storage destination and remove only copies you have already preserved elsewhere. Otherwise, deselect nonessential categories or use a higher-capacity compatible destination, then run and verify a new backup.
An app’s data is absent after backup
That may be an app-specific restriction rather than a failed phone backup. Use the app’s own export, account-sync or restore process and retain any recovery codes. Samsung’s Smart Switch guidance specifically warns that some third-party messenger data may not transfer.
After One UI finishes installing
- Let the phone complete its first restart and any app optimization before judging the backup or restore state.
- Check contacts, calendar, photos, messages, recordings and documents that you identified as important.
- Open critical apps and complete any sign-in, device approval or in-app restore they request.
- If something is missing, use Settings > Accounts and backup to access the relevant Samsung or Google restore controls, or open Smart Switch and choose Restore from the computer or external-storage backup.
- Keep the original local and cloud copies until verification is complete.
Restore menus and available content vary for the same reasons as backup menus: model, software version, country, carrier and account configuration. Restore only after identifying the correct backup date and destination.
