What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Reach a project through its official channels independently, verify the full website domain, and read the wallet request before signing. Never enter your recovery phrase on a website. A wallet connection is not the same as a token approval—but a convincing fake claim or presale can lead you to sign a transaction or grant a contract permission to move your tokens.
How can I tell if a crypto presale website is real?
A familiar logo, convincing design, or token name does not prove a presale is genuine. Scammers can copy a real project’s branding and use a domain that differs from the legitimate one by a small detail. A token with the advertised name can also exist without being the project’s real token. MetaMask explains how fake presales use copied pages and altered URLs.

- Find the project’s website through an official channel you locate independently, rather than following a link in an unsolicited message, post, or ad.
- Compare the full domain in your browser with the domain linked from that independently verified site or its official channels. Look for misspellings, extra words, or a different ending.
- Check the token contract details against the project’s own official information. A matching token name or ticker is not enough to establish that it is the right asset.
- Before connecting or signing, stop if the page uses urgency, promises guaranteed returns, or offers unusually high yields. These are reasons to investigate, not proof that an offer is legitimate. MetaMask describes similar lures used in fake voucher scams.
Security alerts and verification badges can provide useful information, but they are not guarantees: alerts may miss a threat, and the absence of a badge does not by itself prove a site is malicious. MetaMask describes the limits of wallet security alerts.
Is an unexpected token claim link safe?
Treat unsolicited claim links and unexpected airdrops as untrusted until you verify them. They can lead to a site that asks for your recovery phrase, requests a transfer, or presents a signature or token approval as a routine claim step. Do not follow instructions embedded in an unexpected token or NFT’s metadata; look up the project and its claim information independently. Ethereum.org’s scam guidance says: “Never enter your seed phrase on any website. Legitimate apps never ask for it.”

A recovery phrase gives control of the wallet it backs. Do not share it with a person, website, or support form, even if the request is framed as verification or recovery. Trezor’s phishing guidance also covers attempts to obtain wallet backups.
Can connecting my wallet drain it?
Connecting lets an app interact with your wallet interface; it is not, by itself, the same as granting a token allowance. A separate signed approval can let a contract move a specified token up to the allowance you authorize. If that allowance is unlimited, the full balance of that token may be exposed to the spender. MetaMask explains the difference between connecting and approving access.

A malicious page may disguise an approval or signature as part of a claim, voucher, or presale purchase. Treat each wallet prompt as a separate decision. If you cannot tell what you are being asked to authorize, reject it and verify the request through the project’s independently located official channels.
What should I check in a wallet prompt before signing?
- Identify the request type. Is the wallet asking to connect, submit a transaction, approve token spending, or sign a message? Do not assume a request is harmless because the site calls it a claim or verification.
- Inspect the details shown. For an approval, check the token, spender or contract, and allowance amount where available. For a transaction, make sure you understand what it will do before confirming.
- Limit the permission. Prefer the smallest allowance that meets the actual need; avoid unlimited access when a smaller amount will work.
- Decline unclear requests. A legitimate-looking site or wallet warning does not make an unfamiliar authorization safe. Verify first rather than signing to see what happens.
MetaMask’s guidance on fake voucher scams describes how an approval can be presented as a routine step. Its security-alert guidance explains why alerts should not be treated as a complete safety check.

How do I check and revoke token approvals?
Review approvals on the network where they were granted. An approval list for one network will not show permissions on another. Ethereum.org points readers to tools such as Revoke.cash, Blockscout, and Etherscan’s Token Approval Checker as examples; that listing is not a guarantee of endorsement. Navigate to a tool’s authentic domain independently and confirm which networks it supports before using it. Ethereum.org lists approval-checking resources.
- Open a recognized approval checker using its independently verified domain.
- Select the correct network and review the spender and allowance for each token.
- Revoke permissions you no longer need or do not recognize, after checking that you understand the transaction.
- Pay the network fee required to submit the revocation, then check the approval list again to confirm the change.
Disconnecting a site from your wallet does not revoke a token allowance. Revocation is a separate on-chain transaction and costs a network fee. Ethereum.org explains network-specific approval review and revocation.

What should I do after connecting or signing something suspicious?
If you suspect the wallet or its recovery phrase is compromised, prioritize assets that remain under your control. Use a new secure wallet with a recovery phrase that has not been exposed, and transfer remaining assets there. Revoke malicious allowances where possible, but do not assume that revoking permissions makes a wallet safe if its recovery phrase has been disclosed.
- Secure related exchange accounts and other linked accounts; change their passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
- Preserve wallet addresses, transaction hashes, screenshots, and messages. Use them when reporting the incident through appropriate platform or official channels.
- Do not pay anyone who contacts you promising to recover stolen funds for an upfront fee.
Ethereum.org states: “Once a transaction is confirmed on the blockchain, it is final.” In the ordinary blockchain process, a confirmed transaction generally cannot be reversed, so act quickly to protect what remains and keep evidence. Ethereum.org’s scam help page covers reporting and response steps.
