1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRun CaptureKit from a backend service or scheduled job: send the portal URL to its GET /v1/capture endpoint with your API key in the x-api-key header, then save the returned image or PDF. Choose a viewport and wait condition that match the page state you need to document. Before scheduling captures, check the specific portal’s terms and access controls and obtain any required owner approval. A screenshot can record what was visible; it cannot by itself establish GIGW conformance.
What an automated screenshot can—and cannot—show
For a government web team, a repeatable capture can help record a page’s visible appearance at a particular URL, time, and viewport. That is useful for visual monitoring or documenting a rendered state, provided the capture settings and outcome are logged.

The Guidelines for Indian Government Websites and apps (GIGW), Government of India, apply to government websites and apps at central, state, and local levels. The official scope page says the guidelines aim to make sites conform to “the essential prerequisites of the UUU trilogy of usability, user-centricity and universal accessibility.” GIGW scope and resources
A screenshot is not a GIGW test or certification. It does not reveal semantic markup, accessible names, screen-reader behavior, or every manual checkpoint. GIGW guidance includes accessibility requirements and manual evaluation; for example, its guidance calls for an evaluator to manually check that a page prints correctly on A4. Use screenshots as visual records alongside appropriate accessibility, security, and manual checks—not as substitutes for them. GIGW guidelines GIGW accessibility guidance

Check permission and plan the capture
No particular portal is specified here, so its automation policy, authentication requirements, request limits, and data sensitivity cannot be assumed. Review the portal’s published terms and access controls, and confirm acceptable frequency and any owner approval with the responsible team before creating a schedule. The existence of a screenshot endpoint does not grant permission to automate access to a government site.
Decide what question the screenshot should answer before choosing settings. Desktop and mobile-sized viewports show different layouts; a viewport screenshot and an element-only capture have different scopes. Record the dimensions and capture options with each output so later comparisons are interpretable.

Set up a server-side CaptureKit request
1. Create and protect an API key
Follow CaptureKit’s quick start to create an account and API key. Its instructions say the key is shown once; save it in an environment variable or equivalent server-side secret store. Do not commit it to source control or place it in browser or mobile app code: a client-side request exposes the key in network traffic.

2. Call the capture endpoint
CaptureKit documents GET /v1/capture with the target URL and an x-api-key header. The following is a cURL template; replace the example URL with the portal page you are authorized to capture and set the key in your shell environment first:

The endpoint’s documented parameters and response behavior are described in CaptureKit’s capture API reference. Treat the sample dimensions as an example, not a required or tested setting for a particular portal. Choose dimensions and format to suit the report or comparison you are making.
3. Automate from a controlled service
Run the request in a backend process, scheduled job, or controlled automation platform—not a page visitors load. A scheduled workflow should stop or alert on errors rather than silently treating a missing or invalid response as a screenshot. CaptureKit’s quick start describes reviewing API logs for request status, duration, and credit cost: quick start and logs.
Choose format, scope, and rendering wait
CaptureKit documents PNG, JPEG/JPG, WebP, and PDF output, viewport and device controls, selector capture, wait settings, delays, resource and URL blocking, caching, and optional S3-compatible storage. These are configuration choices; no settings here have been tested against a specific portal. Consult the capture API reference for accepted parameter names and current behavior.
Recommended Free Tools
- Format: Use an image format for visual records; choose PDF when a document-style output is needed. Keep the format consistent across comparisons.
- Viewport or device: Set the viewport to the layout you intend to inspect. If you need to compare mobile and desktop, capture them as separate, clearly labeled runs.
- Whole page or element: Use a selector capture when a specific component is the subject. A selector should match the intended element on the rendered page.
- Wait: The endpoint documents
wait_untilvaluesdomcontentloaded,load,networkidle0, andnetworkidle2, an optional delay, and an optionalwait_for_selector. Select the condition that reflects how the page becomes ready, then verify it against the target’s behavior. - Blocking: Resource or URL blocking may reduce what loads, but blocking scripts, stylesheets, fonts, or images can change the rendered appearance. Test blocking choices carefully and avoid using a blocked capture as evidence of the unmodified page.
- Storage and cache: Save the response locally or configure the supported S3-compatible storage if your workflow needs it. Caching can affect whether a new page load is represented, so account for the configured cache behavior when interpreting repeated captures.
Make the workflow auditable and safe
- Keep a capture record. Store the target URL, timestamp, viewport or device, format, wait settings, and request outcome alongside the image. This gives reviewers the context needed to compare runs.
- Handle secrets server-side. Read the key from a secret store or environment variable at runtime. Restrict access to the job and its logs, and avoid logging the key itself.
- Protect output files. Screenshots may contain personal, operational, or otherwise sensitive information visible on the page. Apply the organization’s access, retention, and storage policies to the image and any S3-compatible destination.
- Set an approved schedule. Confirm the portal owner’s acceptable frequency and any access constraints before repeatedly requesting pages. The cited API documentation does not establish government data-handling approval or authorize access to any particular portal.
- Pair visual records with other checks. Run separate accessibility, security, and manual evaluations for the criteria they cover; do not infer them from pixels alone.
Cost and reliability considerations
CaptureKit’s endpoint documentation lists one credit per successful capture call. Its account overview says successful responses consume credits and errors do not; those billing terms can change, so check the current CaptureKit documentation and account details before setting a recurring job. A failed request should be recorded as a failed run, not counted as a valid visual sample.

- WINDOW SCREEN REMOVAL TOOL: Designed to easily engage, lift, and remove window screens without damaging frames or mesh.
- Durable Nylon Construction – Made from high-strength, impact-resistant nylon that's tough enough to handle repeated use yet gentle on delicate surfaces, won't rust or corrode like metal tools.
- DUAL-END DESIGN: Features a forked end to engage and lift screen edges and a flat pry tip on the opposite end for versatile use.
- HIGH-VISIBILITY COLOR: Bright orange construction makes this tool easy to spot and prevents it from being misplaced on the job site.
- DIY-FRIENDLY: The ideal tool for homeowners and professionals tackling window screen repair, replacement, or seasonal removal tasks.
Rendering time depends on the target page and the wait strategy. A longer wait may allow dynamic content to appear, but can also extend job duration; an early capture may miss content. Because no portal-specific run is established here, choose the wait condition through controlled checks on the authorized target and log the result rather than assuming one setting is universally reliable.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
- Unauthorized or rejected request: Check that the API key is present in the
x-api-keyheader, is the correct key, and has not been exposed or replaced. Verify the endpoint and parameters against the current API reference. - Image is blank or incomplete: Confirm that the URL is correct and that the selected wait condition allows the relevant content to render. Try a selector wait for a known page element or a suitable delay, then compare outcomes.
- Dynamic content is missing: The page may populate after the initial document event. Try an appropriate documented wait option or
wait_for_selector; validate the result for that page rather than applying a blanket delay to every URL. - Layout differs from the page being reviewed: Check the viewport and device settings and whether resource-blocking rules removed styles, fonts, images, or scripts needed by the page.
- Repeated captures look stale: Review whether caching is enabled and how its configured behavior applies to the request. Compare a run with the intended cache settings and record those settings in the capture log.
- Capture works locally but not in a client app: Move the request to a backend job. A key embedded in browser or mobile code can be read from client network traffic.
- Unexpected credit usage or missing output: Check the API response and CaptureKit logs for status, duration, and credit cost. Distinguish successful image/PDF captures from errors before retrying or counting a run.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can automated screenshots demonstrate that a government portal conforms to GIGW?
No. They document visible page states, but GIGW also requires checks that a screenshot cannot establish, including accessibility and manual evaluation.
Can I schedule screenshots of any Indian government portal?
Not automatically. Check the specific portal’s terms and access controls, and confirm acceptable frequency and any required owner approval before scheduling requests.
How many CaptureKit credits does a capture use?
CaptureKit’s endpoint documentation lists one credit per successful capture call; verify current account terms before relying on that billing rule.
