Use Selenium WebDriver to open an authorized school website page, wait for the content you need to appear, and save a PNG with driver.save_screenshot(). That method captures the current browser window, not necessarily the full page. For full-document capture, Selenium documents a separate method in its Python Firefox API; it is not a portable guarantee for every browser.
What this example captures
The script below uses Python with Chrome as an example. It captures the browser’s current window after a heading appears, then saves the image as screenshots/school-homepage.png. Replace the example URL and readiness condition with the public page and content you are authorized to capture. Selenium’s documented screenshot method writes PNG and accepts a filename; it returns False if an I/O error prevents saving. Selenium Python WebDriver API

Runnable capture script
Change target_url to the exact page to capture. The wait condition uses the page’s first h1 as an example; if the school site has no such element or loads the important content differently, substitute a selector that indicates the page is ready for your task.
from pathlib import Path
from selenium import webdriver
from selenium.webdriver.common.by import By
from selenium.webdriver.support import expected_conditions as EC
from selenium.webdriver.support.ui import WebDriverWait
# Replace this with the page you are authorized to capture.
target_url = "https://example.edu.in/"
output = Path("screenshots/school-homepage.png")
output.parent.mkdir(parents=True, exist_ok=True)
driver = webdriver.Chrome()
try:
driver.set_window_size(1440, 1000)
driver.get(target_url)
# Example readiness condition: wait until the page's main heading is visible.
WebDriverWait(driver, 20).until(
EC.visibility_of_element_located((By.TAG_NAME, "h1"))
)
saved = driver.save_screenshot(str(output))
if not saved:
raise OSError(f"Selenium could not save the screenshot to {output}")
print(f"Saved {output.resolve()}")
finally:
driver.quit()
The directory is created before capture, the window size is set explicitly, the screenshot result is checked, and driver.quit() runs even if navigation, waiting, or saving fails. Selenium’s examples likewise pair browser work with driver teardown. Selenium: Working with windows and tabs
Choose the right page-ready condition
A successful call to get() does not establish that every school page’s images, scripts, or late-loaded content are ready for a useful screenshot. Pick a condition tied to what the image must show, rather than relying on an arbitrary delay.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRank #2
- Wait for a visible heading, logo, or other stable element when that element is a good signal that the page has rendered.
- For content loaded after the initial page, wait for the specific content container or item count that matters.
- If the site has a known animation or delayed banner, wait for its completion or disappearance when that affects the intended image.
- Use a fixed sleep only when there is no meaningful condition to wait for; it can waste time on fast loads and still be too short on slow ones.
The appropriate selector and timeout are site-specific. The Selenium screenshot API documents saving the image, but it does not certify that a particular school website is fully rendered.
Window screenshot or full-page screenshot?
| Need | Method | Scope and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Capture the visible browser window | driver.save_screenshot("path.png") |
Saves the current window to a PNG; content outside the window is not necessarily included. |
| Capture the full document in Firefox | driver.save_full_page_screenshot("path.png") |

Capture multiple school pages in one run
For a repeatable batch, keep the URLs explicit and give each output a predictable filename. The example below applies the same readiness signal to each page and stops with an error if a screenshot cannot be saved.

if not driver.save_screenshot(str(filename)):
raise OSError(f"Could not save {filename}")
print(f"Saved {filename}")
finally:
driver.quit()
For a large batch, decide in advance how to handle an individual site that times out or lacks the expected selector: stop immediately, record the failure and continue, or retry under a limit. Do not silently save an image after a readiness timeout, because it may be a blank or incomplete state.
Use care with Indian education portals and access
“Indian school websites” is not one uniform target category. Independent school sites can differ in layout, language, loading behavior, and access requirements; the title alone does not establish permission to automate any particular site. Confirm that your use is authorized and that the page is appropriate to access before running a capture batch.

Troubleshoot common failures
- Browser or driver fails to start: confirm that the browser is installed and that Selenium can configure a compatible driver in your environment. Review the full exception before changing versions or paths.
- Wait times out: the selector may not exist on that page, the site may use a different layout, or the content may not have loaded. Inspect the page and select a condition that matches the actual target; do not simply remove the wait if incomplete captures matter.
- Screenshot method returns
Falseor saving raises an I/O error: verify that the parent directory exists, the destination is writable, and the filename ends in.png. Selenium recommends a full path for the screenshot destination. WebDriver screenshot API - Image is cropped or omits lower-page content:
save_screenshot()captures the current window. Increase the window dimensions if a larger viewport is needed, or use Firefox’s documented full-page method where a full document is required. - Image appears blank, incomplete, or shows a blocking page: verify that the URL is correct, the page has reached the condition you need, and the site permits your access. Do not attempt to bypass login, CAPTCHA, or other access controls.
- Batch stops on one problematic page: add per-URL exception handling and log the URL and error if continuing is appropriate. Keep failures distinct from successful screenshot files so an incomplete run is visible.

ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single GET request can return an image or PDF; its clean-shot workflow accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Each step can be turned off. Bot checks/CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, with response headers indicating the page verdict and billing status.
