Use Selenium WebDriver to open an official or otherwise authorized result page, wait until the result content you need is present, and save a PNG screenshot. A normal WebDriver screenshot captures the visible browser viewport—not automatically the whole page. Before automating any Indian exam portal, check its current terms and access controls; CAPTCHA and other human-access checks are a boundary, not something to bypass.
Before automating an exam result page
First confirm that the URL belongs to the exam authority or an authorized results platform. Read that portal’s current notices, terms, and access requirements, because rules and page behavior differ among state boards, universities, recruitment bodies, and other services. The NIC exam-results platform is maintained by NIC’s e-Counselling Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. Its terms say portal information is for reference and can change without notice; the terms page reports an update date of 16 November 2021. Do not automate CAPTCHA solving or try to defeat a login, rate limit, or other access control. Indian government website guidance describes CAPTCHA as a human-access check and discusses alternatives for different sensory modes. If automation is blocked, stop and use the portal’s authorized human or official route. Government website guidelines
Also consider what will appear in the image. Result pages may expose candidate identifiers or personal data. Save and share screenshots only when you have authority and a clear need; use a neutral filename rather than embedding a candidate’s name, roll number, or result in the filename.

Install Selenium and choose a browser
Install Selenium for Python in the environment where the capture will run:
python -m pip install seleniumUse a browser supported by your Selenium installation, such as Chrome or Firefox, and ensure it is available in the execution environment. Selenium WebDriver controls a real browser; Selenium Manager can manage browser drivers for Selenium bindings. Check the official overview for current setup guidance: Selenium documentation.
Capture a result page with an explicit readiness wait
The example below uses a placeholder result URL and a placeholder CSS selector. Replace both with values for a page you are authorized to access. Inspect that page to choose a stable element that appears only when the result content you need is ready—for example, a result heading or the results table. There is no universal selector for Indian exam portals.

The explicit wait above checks for an inspected page-specific element. If the portal updates that element after it first appears, choose a more meaningful readiness condition, such as visibility or a known result-state indicator, based on the actual page. Choose viewport or element capture
Visible browser viewport
driver.save_screenshot("exam-result-page.png") saves the current browser view as a PNG. This is useful when the desired image is what a visitor can currently see, but content below the viewport is not included by a standard viewport screenshot. Selenium’s official documentation describes the WebDriver screenshot endpoint as returning a screenshot encoded in Base64. Selenium screenshot documentation
One result element
If a single result block is more useful than the whole viewport, locate it and save its screenshot:

If the material spans more than one screen, decide whether you need several viewport captures or a separately verified full-page method. Do not label a normal WebDriver screenshot as full-page. Verify any alternative capture approach on the specific page and browser before relying on it.
Run captures responsibly and keep the output useful
- Use the official authority or a platform that explicitly authorizes the access.
- Keep the selected page condition specific enough to avoid capturing a loading shell or unrelated content.
- Use a predictable, non-sensitive output name and check both Selenium’s Boolean return value and that the file exists.
- Close the browser with
driver.quit(), including when navigation, waiting, or saving raises an error. - For authoritative exam information, consult the relevant authority directly; portal contents and procedures can change.
Troubleshooting
The browser does not start
Confirm that the chosen browser is installed and supported in the runtime, then review Selenium’s current setup documentation. Selenium Manager can manage drivers for Selenium bindings, but the browser itself still needs to be available.

Navigation times out
A timeout can indicate a slow or unavailable portal, a network issue, or a page that does not finish loading. Check the official site in a normal browser and adjust the page-load timeout only when appropriate. A longer page-load timeout does not establish that the result content is ready.
The explicit wait times out
Recheck the URL and inspect the authorized page’s current markup. The selector may be wrong or stale, the result may require a preceding user action, or the portal may be showing an access check or error. Do not work around CAPTCHA or access controls; use an authorized route instead.
The screenshot exists but is blank or incomplete
Wait for a page-specific result signal rather than only waiting for navigation. Check whether the desired material is outside the viewport, whether the page needs scrolling, and whether a selected element is taller than the visible capture region.

The output file is missing
Check that the target directory exists and is writable, that the path ends in .png, and that save_screenshot returned True. The Python API documents a False return on an I/O error.
