Use a browser to capture the page, and an accessibility snapshot to help the agent understand its content and controls. A screenshot records appearance; it is not permission to access or republish a marketplace’s content.
Check permission before automating a marketplace
Terms vary by site, and the restrictions in the terms reviewed here are specific to those platforms—not a universal legal ruling. Check the current terms for the site you intend to access, the purpose and volume of your captures, and whether you plan to store, share, or republish the screenshots. If your use depends on interpreting a term or exception, get qualified advice or written permission.

- Amazon India: its reviewed Terms of Use say the limited site license excludes data-mining, robots, or similar extraction tools, and restrict extracting substantial content for reuse without express written consent. Read the Amazon India Terms of Use.
- Flipkart: its reviewed Terms of Use prohibit page-scraping and similar automated or manual processes to access, acquire, copy, or monitor site content through means not purposely made available. Read the Flipkart Terms of Use.

Set up an authorized Playwright capture
Once you have an authorized URL and use, Playwright can open it and save a viewport or full-page image. The example below accepts the URL as a command-line argument, uses a fixed viewport, saves a full-page PNG, and closes the browser in a finally block. It deliberately does not evade CAPTCHAs, sign-in controls, rate limits, or other access restrictions.
Install Playwright
- Install a current Node.js runtime if you do not already have one.
- In a new project directory, run
npm init -y. - Install Playwright with
npm install playwright, then install its Chromium browser withnpx playwright install chromium.
Save the capture script
Save this as capture.mjs. The site-specific readiness step is intentionally left to you: use only a condition that is permitted for your use and meaningful for the page. A successful navigation does not prove that every dynamic product detail has rendered.

Choose the screenshot scope
Playwright supports viewport, full-page, and element-level screenshots. Its documentation describes a full-page capture as “a screenshot of the full scrollable page, as if the page could fit it entirely on a very tall screen.” Choose the smallest scope that answers your task.
- Viewport: capture the visible area, useful when the initial view is all that is needed. Omit
fullPage: true. - Full page: set
fullPage: trueto include the scrollable page. Long pages can produce large images that are harder to inspect or compare. - Element: capture a specific region with a locator screenshot, but only where the site’s terms and your permission allow it. Use a stable, authorized locator rather than assuming a selector works across sites.
Playwright’s screenshot documentation covers these scopes and options: Screenshots. The Page API documents options including capture type, clipping, and scale. Device scale can make an output image larger than its CSS-scale dimensions.
Give the AI agent both visual and structured evidence
A screenshot preserves how a page looks, but it is a weak source for precise interaction: text can be small, controls may be visually similar, and an image does not expose a reliable control structure. When an agent must understand a page and act on it, use a fresh accessibility snapshot after navigation to identify content and controls, then use a screenshot as visual evidence. Playwright MCP documents screenshots as visual aids and accessibility snapshots as structured page information.

Do not ask an agent to interact with a page by guessing from pixels when structured information is available. If a control or detail is missing from the snapshot, investigate page readiness or the authorized interaction method rather than evading an access restriction.

Make captures comparable and interpretable
Rendering can vary with browser, platform, viewport, device scale, fonts, and page state. For repeat comparisons, keep those conditions and screenshot options consistent. Record enough provenance to interpret the image later:
- Source URL and capture time.
- Browser/runtime version, platform, viewport dimensions, and scale.
- Capture scope and any relevant consent or authorization reference.
- Any page state that affects what is visible, such as a selected variant, where capturing that state is authorized.
Store this information alongside the image rather than relying on a filename alone. A consistent setup makes visual differences easier to interpret; it does not guarantee identical rendering across environments.

Troubleshoot incomplete or unusable captures
- The image is blank or missing product details: navigation may have finished before the relevant content rendered. Add a site-specific readiness condition only if it is permitted and stable for your authorized use; the sources do not establish a universal selector or wait rule for Indian marketplaces.
- The page shows a CAPTCHA, sign-in prompt, or rate-limit response: stop rather than attempting to bypass it. Resolve access through the site’s authorized route or obtain permission.
- The full-page image is too large or difficult to read: use a viewport capture if the visible fold suffices, or an authorized element capture if only one region is needed.
- Two captures differ unexpectedly: compare browser/runtime, platform, viewport, device scale, fonts, selected page state, and screenshot options before attributing the difference to a product-page change.
- The agent cannot identify a control from the image: refresh the structured accessibility snapshot and use its page information for interaction; retain the screenshot for visual context.
- The capture fails at navigation: check the URL, network access, timeout, and whether the page is reachable through an authorized method. Do not increase automation intensity to work around site restrictions.
Protect people and evidence
Capture only the information needed for the task. Do not capture account or customer details without authorization. Restrict access to stored images, choose a retention period appropriate to the purpose, and mask information only when masking is permitted and does not compromise the evidentiary value. If a screenshot will be redistributed, confirm that both the capture and the intended reuse are allowed.
