YouTube Studio does not provide a documented switch to change playlist membership or ordering automatically every day. For unattended changes, run a script on a schedule and have it use the YouTube Data API with authorized channel access. If a person can make the change daily, Studio is the simpler option.
What kind of daily playlist change do you need?
“Change” can mean several different actions. YouTube’s API handles them separately, so decide the rule before setting up automation:

- Add today’s satsang: insert the video into the chosen playlist.
- Remove yesterday’s satsang: delete its playlist entry. This removes it from that playlist, not necessarily from the channel.
- Move a video: update its position in the playlist. Position changes require the playlist’s ordering to be set to Manual.
- Keep an archive: add the new video but retain older entries, rather than removing yesterday’s video.
The YouTube Data API provides separate playlist-item insert, delete, and update methods; it does not provide a single “daily playlist change” setting. See the insert, delete, and update method references.

Manual edits or unattended automation?

YouTube’s documented scheduling feature is for publishing a private video publicly at a chosen time; it is not documented as a scheduler for playlist membership or ordering. See YouTube Help on scheduling video publication. The API workflow therefore needs a separate scheduler—such as a scheduled job in an environment you operate—and monitoring. YouTube’s API documentation does not prescribe a particular scheduler.

Set up a daily playlist automation
- Define the rule. Decide which satsang video qualifies as today’s item, which playlist it belongs in, whether older videos stay, and whether the new item should be appended or moved to a specific position. Avoid creating a new playlist each day unless a new destination is intentional; changing one stable playlist preserves one shareable URL.
- Prepare API access. Create or select a Google Cloud project, enable the YouTube Data API, and configure OAuth authorization for the channel account. API keys can identify requests, but modifying channel data requires OAuth authorization. Follow Google’s YouTube API authentication guide.
- Read the target playlist’s items. Use the playlist-items list operation to inspect the playlist and identify the entry to modify or remove. Keep the playlist-item ID: it represents a particular video placement in a playlist and is not interchangeable with the video ID. The playlistItems resource reference describes these operations and identifiers.
- Call the method that matches the rule. Insert the video for an addition, delete the playlist-item ID for a removal, or update the item for a position change. For a specific order, make sure the playlist ordering is Manual before using an update to position the item.
- Schedule the script externally. Configure a scheduler you control to run at the desired local time. Specify the time zone explicitly and decide what should happen if the selected video is not yet available or the job runs twice. Scheduling is separate from the API write operation.
- Log, alert, and verify. Record the run time, target playlist, operation, and API result without logging OAuth secrets. Alert someone or provide a manual fallback on failure. Verify the playlist after the first run and after changing the selection rule or authorization.
Authorization, quota, and safeguards
Protect the authorization
Playlist writes require OAuth access to the channel. Store credentials in a protected secret store or other restricted environment, grant only the access the workflow needs, and do not place tokens in public code or logs. The script should detect expired or revoked authorization and report it; a scheduled timer cannot renew access by itself.
Budget API quota
Google’s current API method references list a cost of 50 quota units per playlist-item insert, delete, or update call. Google’s Getting Started guide documents a default allocation of 10,000 units per day for most other YouTube Data API endpoints; this is a changeable default, not a guarantee for every project. Check the project’s actual quota and the current Getting Started guide before relying on frequent writes. A single daily change is different from a workflow that repeatedly lists and rewrites many entries.

Make runs safe to repeat
- Check whether the intended video is already in the playlist before inserting it, to avoid duplicates when a job is retried.
- Confirm the playlist and video are accessible to the authorized account before writing.
- Handle missing or private videos, invalid item IDs, inaccessible playlists, API errors, and playlist-size limits as failures to report—not as successful updates.
- For a removal or reorder, look up the current playlist-item ID at run time or maintain a reliable mapping; do not assume the video ID alone identifies the entry.
- Start with a test playlist or a manual verification step so an incorrect selection rule does not remove or reorder the wrong satsang.
Common problems and fixes
