Attach a magnetic phone cooler only after confirming that its mounting system matches your phone or case. For a phone with a supported built-in magnetic area, center the cooler’s magnetic face on that area, remove the case if the cooler maker recommends it, and connect the specified USB power. If the phone has no compatible magnetic attachment, use only the cooler’s approved adhesive magnetic sheet or clip. Check NFC, wireless-charging, power and condensation warnings before gaming or recording for long periods.
Start with compatibility, not placement
“Magnetic phone cooler” does not describe one universal mounting standard. Different models may expect a built-in magnetic attachment area, a supplied adhesive magnetic sheet or a clamp. A cooler that holds securely on one phone can be weak, misaligned or unusable on another. Read the cooler’s manual and the phone or case specifications before attaching anything.

Identify the mounting method
| Mounting method | What must match | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Direct magnetic attachment | The cooler’s magnetic face and the phone’s supported magnetic area must align. | A case or attached accessory can weaken the hold and reduce cooling contact. Razer recommends removing the case and attached accessories for optimum cooling and magnetic connection. |
| Adhesive magnetic sheet | The sheet must be supplied or specifically approved for that cooler and placed according to its instructions. | GameSir warns that its sheet must not cover the phone’s NFC location and that wireless charging cannot be used while the sheet is installed. |
| Clip or clamp | The phone must fit the cooler’s stated width range. | GameSir lists a 65–90 mm phone-width range for its clip option. That range applies to that model, not to every cooler. |
Check the case and accessories
Cases, wallet attachments, ring holders and other layers change the distance between the cooler and the phone. They can reduce magnetic force, leave the cooler off-center or prevent the cooling surface from sitting flat. If the manufacturer calls for a bare phone, remove the case before use. Do not assume that a case that works with one magnetic accessory will work with a cooler.
Check power before you begin
Many coolers are not wireless devices. Confirm the required input, connector and included accessories in the exact model’s instructions. GameSir specifies external 5V/2A power for the F9. Razer’s setup requires a compatible USB power adapter and notes that the adapter is sold separately. A cooler should not be connected to a charger merely because the plug fits; use the input rating specified for that model.

How to attach a cooler directly to a compatible phone
Use this method only when the cooler and phone are designed to connect magnetically without an added sheet or clip.
- Read the compatibility guidance. Confirm that the phone’s magnetic attachment area is supported by the cooler. Check whether your case or accessory must be removed.
- Power off unnecessary accessories. Remove the case, wallet, ring or other attachment if the cooler manufacturer recommends a bare phone. Keep the phone’s back and the cooler’s contact surface clean and dry.
- Find the supported magnetic area. Hold the cooler over the back of the phone rather than allowing it to snap into a random position. The magnetic face should meet the phone’s specified attachment zone.
- Align the cooler. Place the magnetic face flat against the supported area. Do not drag it across the phone while pressing down; lift and reposition if it is off-center.
- Check the hold. Gently test whether the cooler stays attached without sliding. If it shifts, remove the case or accessory if permitted, realign it, and consult the model’s fit guidance rather than adding an unapproved adhesive.
- Connect the specified power. Plug the cooler into the required compatible USB power adapter. For a model that requires a separately purchased adapter, verify the adapter’s output before switching the cooler on.
- Inspect the setup. Confirm that the cooler is not pressing against a connector, button or opening and that the cable does not pull the cooler sideways. Stop if the phone, cable or cooler becomes wet.
Direct magnetic mounting is reversible, but that does not make every position safe. A strong magnet can hold while the cooling surface remains poorly positioned, and a case can make the connection feel secure while creating a larger air gap. Use the manufacturer’s recommended orientation and bare-phone requirement as the deciding rules.
How to install an adhesive magnetic sheet
An adhesive sheet is an accessory for phones without the cooler’s required built-in magnetic area. Use this route only if the cooler’s instructions provide or approve that sheet. Do not substitute a random metal plate, tape or third-party magnet: the cooler may not hold correctly, and the added material can interfere with phone functions.
Prepare the phone
- Confirm the sheet is the intended part. Match the sheet to the cooler model and read its placement warnings.
- Locate NFC first. Identify the phone’s NFC area from the phone maker’s documentation or the phone’s known tap-to-pay/accessory location. The sheet must not cover that area. If you cannot identify the location, do not install the sheet until you can.
- Clean the surface. GameSir’s F9 tutorial begins by cleaning the phone surface. Remove dust, oil and residue, then allow the surface to dry completely.
- Apply the protective film if supplied. Follow the tutorial’s sequence for placing the protective film before the magnetic sheet. Do not improvise the order or cut through the phone’s back.
- Position the sheet. Place it where the cooler’s instructions specify, keeping it clear of the NFC location. Check alignment before pressing the adhesive down.
- Press evenly. Press the sheet firmly across its surface so it bonds without bubbles or lifted edges.
- Allow it to stand. GameSir’s tutorial instructs users to let the installed sheet stand before use. Use the model’s stated waiting or cure period if one is provided; do not attach the cooler immediately when the instructions require a set time.
- Test the attachment and functions. After the required standing period, attach the cooler and verify that the sheet holds it securely. Test any NFC function you rely on before a long session.
Understand the trade-off
GameSir states that wireless charging cannot be used while its magnetic sheet is installed. That is a product-specific warning, but it illustrates why a sheet is not a neutral add-on. The sheet’s position can affect NFC and charging, and removing it later may leave adhesive or damage a case or finish. If wireless charging is essential, choose a mounting method that does not block it instead of installing the sheet and hoping it will work through the added layer.

How to use a clip mount
A clip avoids permanent adhesive when the cooler supports that option. Measure the phone’s width, including any case you intend to keep on it, against the cooler’s stated range. GameSir lists 65–90 mm for the phone clip on the F9.
- Confirm that your phone width falls inside the model’s published range.
- Open the clip without forcing its spring or hinge.
- Place the phone centrally so the cooler’s contact area sits where the instructions indicate.
- Release the clip gradually and check that it grips without pressing buttons or covering a port.
- Gently move the phone before use. If the clip slips, rocks or pinches the phone, remove it and reassess the fit.
- Connect the specified power and keep the cable routed so it does not pull the clip sideways.
A clip range is not a universal standard. A phone that fits one model’s 65–90 mm clamp may not fit another cooler, particularly with a thick or uneven case.
Power the cooler correctly
External power requirements are model-specific. The examples in the manufacturer instructions demonstrate why you must check the manual rather than assume that every cooler includes an adapter or runs from the phone.

Use a case only when the cooler allows it
A case can be convenient, but it adds distance and may change alignment. Razer recommends removing the case and attached accessories for optimum cooling and magnetic connection. Treat that as a compatibility instruction, not merely a performance suggestion: a cooler that barely holds through a case can detach when the phone is moved.
When a case is worth removing
- The cooler maker explicitly requires or recommends a bare phone.
- The cooler slides, rotates or sits visibly off-center.
- The case has a wallet, ring, kickstand or another magnetic accessory attached.
- The cooling surface cannot sit flat against the phone.
When to stop testing
- The cooler drops or can be detached with light movement.
- The case presses the cooler against a camera area, button or connector.
- The phone or cooler becomes wet.
- The phone’s NFC or wireless-charging behavior changes unexpectedly after an accessory is installed.
NFC and wireless charging checks
Magnetic sheets and other added materials can occupy the same area used by NFC or wireless charging. GameSir specifically warns not to cover the NFC location and says wireless charging is unavailable while its magnetic sheet is installed.
- Identify the phone’s NFC location before placing any sheet.
- Keep the sheet outside that area, following the cooler’s placement diagram.
- If you use tap-to-pay, transit cards or NFC accessories, test them after installation.
- Assume wireless charging is unavailable when the model’s instructions say so; remove the sheet before charging wirelessly if the design permits removal.
- Do not generalize one model’s result to another phone or cooler. Check the exact accessory instructions.
Prevent condensation and moisture damage
A cooler can create a large temperature difference between its cold surface and the surrounding air. AREA warns that condensation may form depending on temperature difference and humidity and cautions users to prevent droplets from entering the phone connector.

If droplets appear
- Turn off and disconnect the cooler.
- Move the phone away from the source of moisture and keep droplets out of connectors and openings.
- Do not continue gaming or charging while moisture is present near an opening.
- Allow the phone and cooler to dry according to the phone and cooler manufacturers’ safety guidance.
- Inspect the connector before reconnecting power.
There is no universal safe temperature, humidity or runtime threshold established for every magnetic cooler. Do not apply a number from one model to another; follow the specific cooler’s moisture precautions and stop when condensation is visible.
Troubleshoot a weak, hot or ineffective setup
The cooler will not stay attached
- Remove the case and attached accessories if the manufacturer recommends a bare phone.
- Recheck that the cooler is aligned with the phone’s supported magnetic area.
- Clean and dry both contact surfaces.
- If using a sheet, confirm that it is the approved part and that its adhesive has completed the required standing period.
- If using a clip, measure the phone and case against the model’s stated width range.
The cooler powers on but cooling contact seems poor
- Check whether the case or sheet is creating an excessive gap.
- Reposition the cooler on the supported area rather than relying on the strongest magnetic snap point.
- Remove accessories that prevent a flat connection.
- Verify that the power supply meets the model’s requirement, such as the GameSir F9’s specified 5V/2A input.
NFC or wireless charging stopped working
- If an adhesive sheet was installed, check whether it covers the NFC location.
- For the GameSir sheet, remove it before wireless charging because the instructions state that wireless charging cannot be used while it is installed.
- Test the phone without the sheet or accessory, provided removal is allowed, to isolate the cause.
Moisture appears
Disconnect the cooler immediately and keep droplets away from connectors and openings. Do not resume use until the phone and cooler are dry and the manufacturer’s precautions have been met.
How to choose between mounting options
Choose by the constraints that determine whether the cooler will remain aligned, powered and safe during your actual use.

A safe-use routine for every session
- Confirm the mounting method and remove any unapproved case or accessory.
- Inspect the phone, cooler, cable and contact surfaces for dust or moisture.
- Align the cooler with the supported area or verify the clip’s fit.
- Check that NFC and wireless charging restrictions are understood when a sheet is installed.
- Connect the specified power supply.
- Watch the setup during the first few minutes for sliding, cable strain, unusual heat or condensation.
- Disconnect power and remove the cooler if moisture appears or the attachment becomes unstable.
The safest installation is the one supported by the cooler’s own mounting and power instructions: direct magnetic attachment when the phone is compatible, an approved sheet when its NFC and charging trade-offs are acceptable, or a correctly sized clip when adhesive is unsuitable.
