For one-time preservation of a public page, use the Wayback Machine’s Save Page Now. It does not schedule recurring captures. To build a recurring visual record, use a screenshot service that explicitly supports scheduled captures; for an organization preserving a defined web collection, consider a managed crawling service. Decide whether you need screenshots, archived page files and assets, or both.
How do I schedule screenshots of a public website?
First decide what the record is for: tracking visual changes, preserving a citation, maintaining an organizational web collection, or documenting a compliance process. The purpose determines whether you need a rendered image, an archived page and its resources, or a broader crawl.

- List the public URLs. Define whether you are monitoring selected pages or preserving a collection.
- For a one-time capture, submit each URL to Wayback Machine Save Page Now. Save the returned archived link. The Internet Archive says this saves a single page, including images and CSS when available; it does not save outlinks or begin a whole-site crawl.
- For recurring screenshots, choose a service that states its schedule and output. Confirm capture frequency, viewport or full-page mode, retention, exports, visual comparison and alerts. Snapshot Archive describes these capabilities, but they are vendor statements, not independent test results; check its live service details before relying on them.
- Pilot the workflow on representative pages. Include dynamic pages, long pages and pages with embedded assets. Inspect results for blank areas, missing images, timestamps, redirects and unexpected variation. This is a validation step, not a guarantee that every page can be captured.
- Review captures and failures periodically. Where preservation stakes justify it, keep a separate copy of files and an index recording the source URL, capture time and archive link.
What to compare before choosing a scheduled service
- Capture interval and whether it can be configured for your needs
- Viewport versus full-page captures
- Retention, export formats and portability
- Visual comparison, change detection and alerts
- Authentication requirements, access controls and cost
- Whether failed or partial captures are identified and documented
Does Save Page Now capture a page every day?
No. It is a manual, one-time submission for a specific page, not a recurring schedule. The Internet Archive Help Center describes Save Page Now as a way “to save a specific page one time” in its Using The Wayback Machine guidance. Its separate Save Pages in the Wayback Machine article states: “This method only saves a single page, not the whole site.”
Submitting a page does not add it to future crawls or save multiple pages, directories or an entire site. The Internet Archive cannot guarantee that a site has been or will be archived. Its guidance says some pages may be absent because crawlers did not discover them, access was password-protected, robots.txt blocked crawling, the site was inaccessible, or the owner requested exclusion.

Why an archived page can be incomplete
Even when a page is captured, its rendering may not match the live page. The Help Center identifies JavaScript behavior, missing resources, server-side interactions and orphan pages as causes of incomplete captures; simple HTML is generally easier to archive. Images or CSS may be captured when available, but their presence is not assured.
What is the difference between a screenshot archive and the Wayback Machine?
A screenshot is a visual record of what a capture service rendered at a particular time. A web archive may preserve page files and associated resources so a page can be revisited; a managed crawl can cover a defined collection. These outputs serve different needs, and none should be described as complete unless the capture scope and result support that claim.

Retain the returned archive link for a one-time Save Page Now submission. For recurring monitoring, preserve exported files where the service allows it and keep a simple index with the original URL, capture timestamp, output type and result status. If a capture is incomplete, note that rather than treating the image or archive link as a full record of the live page.

For high-stakes evidence, assess provenance and evidentiary requirements with an appropriate professional. A timestamped screenshot alone does not prove that the underlying page was complete, that every viewer could access it, or that the image is legally admissible.
