SingleFile packages the rendered page and its resources into one HTML file, normally in your browser’s downloads folder. Open that file offline to check what was preserved. It is a snapshot, not a certified GST record or a replacement for portal-native downloads.
Save a GST portal page as a single HTML file
- Sign in and open the page. Navigate to the GST portal page you need. For GSTR-2B, the portal FAQ gives this route: Services > Returns > Returns Dashboard > File Returns > GSTR 2B tile. The statement can be viewed or downloaded after it has been generated. The route may differ for other pages. GST Portal GSTR-2B FAQ.
- Wait for the relevant content. SingleFile saves the page as it is currently rendered. Make sure the text, tables, and other visible information you want are present before capture; content that has not loaded, requires another action, or is on a different page should not be assumed to be included.
- Save with SingleFile. Click the SingleFile toolbar button to save the current tab. Its context menu also offers saving selected content, a selected frame, or multiple tabs. By default, the file goes to the browser’s configured downloads folder. See the SingleFile project documentation.
- Verify the saved file. Open the HTML file from your downloads folder. For a meaningful offline check, disconnect from the internet first, then confirm that the required text, tables, and visible resources appear.
- Keep the official file when available. If the portal offers a structured download for the same information, save that separately too. An HTML snapshot preserves the page’s appearance and context; it is not the same thing as a structured return file.
When to use an HTML snapshot or a portal download

What may not work offline
A saved page can be useful for reading without a connection, but it is not a replayable authenticated GST session. SingleFile’s FAQ explains that scripts are removed by default, and interactive elements such as folding titles, dynamic maps, and carousels may not work properly. Offline behavior for those elements is not guaranteed. Do not rely on an archived HTML file to submit forms, continue a live workflow, or reproduce an interactive page. SingleFile FAQ.
Chrome extensions cannot access local filesystem pages by default. That limitation matters if you want SingleFile to process a file already saved on your computer; it is not normally a setting you need just to save a live GST portal tab. SingleFile FAQ.

Archiving is not filing a return
Saving a portal page as HTML does not file, sign, or submit a return. The GST offline return tool has a separate workflow: its manual says it cannot sign or submit a return itself. The taxpayer uploads the prepared return to the portal, checks the summary, and electronically signs there. GST offline tool manual.

GST pages and downloaded returns can contain taxpayer information. Store copies only where appropriate, and do not upload them to third-party storage unless that is intended and authorized. If you keep a second offline copy, a USB drive is one optional storage choice, not a requirement.
