To save a whole webpage as a PNG, use Firefox’s built-in Take Screenshot → Save full page → Download. That captures the webpage, not the browser’s address bar. If the URL must appear inside the image, use a URL-stamp feature from a third-party extension and check that the full address is visible, or keep a separate browser-window screenshot as context alongside the full-page PNG.
What a full-page screenshot does—and what it doesn’t
A full-page capture extends beyond the visible viewport to include the rendered page. The browser’s address bar is browser chrome, separate from the webpage, so a full-page image does not necessarily show it. Mozilla’s instructions document saving a full-page image, but do not promise that the address bar will be included. Mozilla’s screenshot instructions distinguish saving the full page from saving only what is visible.

Decide which record you need before capturing: a readable image of the page, an image that also visibly identifies its URL, or both. A filename containing a URL slug can help organize files, but it does not put the URL in the image.

Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. You can also use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.

Choose Save full page, not Save visible. The latter captures only the current viewport.

Choose Download. Firefox saves the image to its configured download location; Mozilla says downloaded screenshots are named with a screenshot prefix, date and time, and page title.

Open the downloaded image and inspect the top, middle, and bottom. Check for missing content, repeated sticky headers, or sections that were not fully rendered.
This produces an image of the webpage. It does not guarantee that the address bar appears in the PNG.

Use Firefox Developer Tools for repeatable captures
Firefox also documents full-page capture from Developer Tools. In Developer Tools settings, enable the toolbox button labeled Take a screenshot of the entire page, then click that button. The image is saved in Downloads. Alternatively, the Web Console’s :screenshot helper supports --fullpage to capture beyond the current window bounds and --filename to specify a PNG filename. For example, in the Web Console run:
:screenshot --fullpage --filename=archive-2026-10-03.pngChoose a unique filename for each capture: reusing the same filename overwrites the earlier image. This workflow captures the page, not a guaranteed browser address bar.

Make the URL visible in the image
Use an extension with a URL bar or URL stamp
The Firefox Add-ons listing for Screenshot with URL – Full Page Screenshot advertises full-page capture with or without a URL bar, automatic URL and timestamp additions, and PNG, JPEG, or PDF output. Those are features claimed by the third-party listing, not built-in Firefox guarantees. The listing identifies access to the clipboard, downloads and download history, browser tabs, and website data as required permissions. It also includes a developer statement about data collection. Permissions and privacy details can change, so review the live listing before installing and decide whether the requested access suits your use.
After capturing, inspect the PNG itself and confirm that the complete intended URL is legible. Long URLs may be truncated; do not rely on an overlay until you have checked the result.

Consider the publisher’s Chrome or Edge option
The FullPage Capture publisher page describes whole-page PNG/JPG capture and an optional address/date stamp, including styles resembling browser frames. The publisher also says captures are made in the browser and files are saved locally. Treat these as publisher claims, and check the resulting image for URL completeness before using it as a record.
Keep a separate browser-window screenshot
If you do not want to install an extension, take a separate screenshot of the browser window with the address bar visible and retain it alongside the full-page PNG. The two images provide page content and URL context, respectively; they are not one continuous full-length image with the address bar attached. Record the source URL and capture time separately as well if you need them for later reference.

Choose PNG when text clarity matters. The sources cited here do not establish a file-size or image-quality benchmark for these methods. A screenshot records a visual rendering; it does not, by itself, establish that the page is authentic or complete.
Capture checklist and common problems

The address bar is missing: The page capture is not the same as a browser-window capture. Use an extension that advertises a URL bar or URL stamp, or keep a separate browser-window screenshot.

The address is cut off: Check the actual output for truncation. Try a URL-stamp layout that leaves enough room, or retain a separate screenshot with the address bar visible.

Some page content is missing: Wait for the needed page state before capturing, then inspect the top, middle, and bottom. The documented controls do not guarantee that every site’s dynamic or lazy-loaded content will render perfectly.

Sticky elements repeat or obscure content: Inspect the full image and consider whether the page’s fixed headers or overlays make another capture method more suitable.

A previous image disappeared: In the Developer Tools workflow, reusing a
--filenameoverwrites the previous image. Use a unique name for each capture. -
You need to preserve a logged-in or personalized page: Capture it in the browser session where that state is available, and confirm the relevant content appears in the image. Do not assume that a separate tool or workflow shares the same session.
