Save the review’s complete URL in Internet Archive’s Save Page Now before the wording, score, images or page disappears. When the capture finishes, open its replay URL and verify the title, byline, publication date, review text, rating, images and links. Keep a local PDF or HTML copy plus a screenshot, then cite both the original URL and the archived URL with the capture date.
1. Capture the exact review URL first
Open the movie review and copy its full address from the browser, including the article slug, trailing path, fragment when it identifies content, and any query parameters that affect the page. Do not copy only the site’s home page or a shortened share link. The exact address lets another writer distinguish this review from a later edit, a syndicated copy or a different edition.

- Copy the URL before making any edits to it.
- Note whether the page redirects to another address. Preserve both the address you entered and the final address shown after loading.
- Record the visible title, reviewer or byline, publication date and score before submitting the capture. These details help you detect an incomplete replay later.
2. Save the page with Internet Archive’s Save Page Now
Internet Archive’s Save Page Now accepts one page at a time. Submit the review URL, wait for processing, and it returns a permanent replay URL for the captured page. The service says the save can include the page’s images and CSS, but a successful submission is not proof that every asset replayed correctly.
- Open Internet Archive’s Save Page Now page.
- Paste the complete movie-review URL into the address field.
- Submit the address and wait for the save operation to finish. Do not close the tab while the capture is running.
- Copy the replay URL that Internet Archive returns. Store it with the original URL rather than replacing the original in your notes.
- Open the replay URL in a new tab and inspect the captured page before sharing or citing it.
Save Page Now generally captures a single page, not an entire publication or site. If the review links to a separate comments page, gallery, trailer page or embedded transcript that matters to your argument, submit each important page separately and label the resulting replay URLs.

3. Verify that the replay is a usable record
Read the archived page as if you were a fact-checker who never saw the original. Check the elements that establish what the reviewer actually published:
- headline and subtitle;
- reviewer name or byline;
- original publication date and any visible update label;
- body text, pull quotes and score or star rating;
- lead image, inline images, captions and image credits;
- links that support claims in the review;
- visible comments, video or audio when they are part of the record;
- the replay’s capture timestamp.
Click several internal links and scroll through the full page. Missing images, broken style sheets, blank embeds, absent comments or a login prompt mean the replay is incomplete for that purpose. Keep the replay URL, but describe the missing material in your notes instead of presenting it as a complete copy.
4. Make a local backup as well
A public replay is useful for citation, while a local file protects the version you inspected if an archive record becomes difficult to navigate or a dependent asset later stops replaying. For an important review, create all three of these records:

- HTML: use the browser’s “Save page” command and retain the accompanying asset folder when the browser creates one. Keep the HTML and folder together.
- Rendered screenshot: capture the visible page, including the title, byline, date and rating. For a long review, take a full-page image or a sequence whose filenames preserve the order.
Name files with the capture date and a short slug, for example 2026-10-16-film-review.pdf. Store a plain-text note beside them containing the original URL, final redirected URL, archive service, replay URL, capture time (UTC when available), and a short description of anything that failed to load.

5. Cite the version you actually read
Internet Archive’s guidance is to cite the webpage normally and then provide the Wayback information. In practice, give readers both addresses and the capture date:
- the original review URL;
- the Internet Archive replay URL;
- the capture date and time shown by the archive;
- the reviewer, title and original publication date.
A compact note can look like this in an editorial bibliography: Reviewer, “Review title,” publication date, original URL; archived by Internet Archive, replay URL, captured 16 October 2026 at 14:32 UTC. Keep the original address because it identifies the publisher’s page, and keep the replay address because it identifies the version you consulted.
6. What to do when Save Page Now fails
Save Page Now does not work for every page. Internet Archive identifies crawl prohibitions and some SSL configurations as causes of failure. Reviews that require a login or subscription, render most text through scripts, or depend on media servers can also replay only partially.

Internet Archive’s URL and date controls can reveal earlier captures even when the newest save fails. If one capture is incomplete, an earlier one may contain the missing text or image, but treat each date as a separate version.

7. Find an older version before the latest edit
Use Wayback’s URL search to look up the review address, then narrow the results with its date-range controls. The timeline lists available snapshots; selecting a date opens the page as it appeared then. Capture dates can change while you move among interconnected archive records, so write down the timestamp displayed for the specific replay you intend to cite.
Compare at least two captures when you suspect an edit. Look for changed wording, a revised score, a new publication date, deleted paragraphs, altered images or a different byline. Save the replay URLs for both versions and describe the difference rather than silently choosing one.
8. Use a second public snapshot when needed
Archive.today describes itself as a “time capsule for web pages” that creates a snapshot intended to remain available if the original disappears. It is a secondary path, not a replacement for checking the Internet Archive replay. Label the service clearly in your notes and citation so readers know which archive supplied which version.

9. Handle difficult review pages deliberately
Login-gated or paywalled reviews
An archive crawler cannot be assumed to have your account or subscription. If the review is lawfully available to you, save a local copy for your own records and cite the public archive only for the material it actually captured. Do not circulate a private copy as though it were an unrestricted public archive.

Script-rendered scores and text
Some pages insert the review body, rating widget or “updated” label after the initial HTML arrives. A replay can therefore contain the headline but omit the content that appeared in your browser. Verify the rendered body, not just the page source or browser tab title, and preserve a screenshot showing the score if it is editorially significant.
Video, audio and interactive material
Embedded trailers, interview clips, comment widgets and interactive ratings may depend on separate servers. Note whether the player loads, whether a transcript is visible, and whether the review remains understandable without the media. If the argument depends on a spoken line or visual frame, preserve a lawful local reference and identify the missing embed in the archive note.
Privacy and sensitive information
A public archive is discoverable by anyone with the replay address. Do not submit pages containing personal information, unpublished material or credentials. For sensitive editorial work, keep the local file restricted and cite only the public portions that can be responsibly shared.
