How do I apply minoxidil?

Apply it to a dry scalp, parting the hair to expose the skin in the labeled treatment area. The medicine is intended for the scalp, not for coating the hair. Let it dry before you lie down, put on a hat, or allow the area to touch fabric, which could transfer product to linens or other skin.

How long should I wait before washing my hair?
The reviewed 5% solution and men’s foam labels advise waiting about four hours after application before washing the hair or scalp. How long does minoxidil take to work?
The reviewed men’s 5% solution and foam labels say results may appear as early as two months, though some men may need at least four months. These are label expectations, not promises; response varies and full regrowth is not assured. The same labels say newly regrown hair may be lost within three to four months after stopping, so continued use is needed to maintain regrowth.
Some increased shedding for up to two weeks after starting is described as possible and temporary on those men’s labels. If shedding continues beyond two weeks, the labels advise seeing a physician.
