If YouTube marks a monetized live stream as limited or no ad earnings, open the affected stream or its archived video in YouTube Studio on a computer, review the notice, and use the available Appeal or Request review option if you believe the decision is wrong. YouTube sends eligible appeals to a human reviewer; deleting and re-uploading the video is not a workaround.
What limited ads mean for a live stream
YouTube checks scheduled live streams before they go live. It considers the title, description, thumbnail, and tags, and the review guidance says the video and its associated elements are assessed together. The resulting video can be handled through the ad-suitability notice and appeal workflow in Studio. See YouTube’s appeal instructions and its explanation of limited or no ad earnings.
- Limited ad earnings: The video may still run ads, but advertisers who choose to advertise only alongside safer content may not serve ads on it. Revenue may therefore be lower than for content suitable for all advertisers.
- No ad earnings: The video is not eligible for ad revenue under YouTube’s advertiser-friendly guidelines. Other revenue sources may still be possible.
The distinction matters: a limited-earnings notice is not the same as a complete loss of ad eligibility.
How to submit an appeal in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio on a computer. Find the channel and account that own the affected live stream.
- Open Content. Locate the affected stream or its video. Check the visible Notices or Restrictions status and open its impact details. YouTube’s interface can vary, so follow the action shown in the actual notice rather than relying on a particular column label.
- Check that an appeal is available. You can appeal only when YouTube marks the video eligible. Choose the available Appeal or Request review control and follow the prompts.
- Explain the relevant context clearly and accurately. If sensitive material is present for an educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic purpose, explain that purpose and how the material is framed. Do not omit or misrepresent what appears in the video.
- Submit and wait for the decision. YouTube says the appeal is reviewed by a human expert and that it will email you when a final decision is made.
The visible icon may change while a review is pending because YouTube’s systems continue scanning. That change alone is not a final appeal result.

What the reviewer considers
YouTube’s advertiser-friendly review considers the content and associated metadata in context. Its guidance describes five principles: context, focus, tone, realism, and graphicness. YouTube says context is the most important principle; purpose and framing can affect how material is assessed. Read how advertiser-friendly monetization reviews work and the best practices for creating advertiser-friendly content.
Before appealing, compare the complete video and its metadata with YouTube’s advertiser-friendly content guidance. Make the appeal specific: identify the context a reviewer should understand, rather than simply saying the decision is unfair. Context can inform the review, but it does not guarantee a different outcome.

How long the appeal takes, and what happens next
YouTube says an appeal may take up to seven days. It describes one appeal for the decision; after that appeal, the reviewer’s decision is final and the monetization status will not change. These are YouTube’s stated process expectations, not a promise that every review will take the maximum time.
Keep this appeal timeline separate from pending additional checks. Under a process YouTube announced from March 10, 2025, some limited- or no-earnings decisions may receive another review, sometimes by a human, and checks may take up to 24 hours in some cases. YouTube recommends waiting for checks to finish before making content public when practical. If the decision remains and Studio offers an appeal, you can then use that route. Details are in YouTube’s explanation of additional reviews.

Use Self-Certification feedback to improve future ratings
If your channel has access to Self-Certification, you can rate content against YouTube’s advertiser-friendly guidelines. YouTube says this input can help its decisions and provides feedback where your rating differs from the reviewer’s assessment. Learn more in the YouTube Self-Certification overview.
For some limited- or no-earnings appeals, policy timestamps may be provided when the desktop Self-Certification flow was used. Timestamps point to places reviewers found policy issues; they do not tell you where or how to edit. YouTube also says videos, thumbnails, and titles edited to remove violating content are not eligible for re-review through that process, so a timestamp should not be treated as a promise of another review.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Do not delete and re-upload as an appeal tactic. YouTube explicitly says this will not help.
- Do not confuse a pending check with a final appeal decision. Additional checks and an appeal are separate stages, with separate stated timelines.
- Do not appeal without checking the full context. Review metadata as well as the video, including its title, description, thumbnail, and tags.
- Do not assume the appeal will change the status. YouTube provides an appeal for eligible videos, but the reviewer makes the decision under its guidelines.
Or let it run in the cloud
