If your Cash App account is frozen or restricted, contact Cash App through an official channel, explain what happened, and ask what review or verification step applies. Block’s published U.S. materials do not describe one universal appeal form, deadline, independent reviewer, or guaranteed reinstatement process for every restriction. This guide is about a personal Cash App account held with Block, Inc.; if you mean a Square business account or another Block product, these steps may not apply.
How to request a review of a frozen Cash App account
Start with Cash App’s official support, preferably in the app if you can still sign in. State plainly that your account is frozen, locked, or restricted and that you are requesting a review. Ask what information or verification is needed and how to provide it securely. A support request is a way to ask for review; it is not a guarantee that the restriction will be removed.

It helps to be precise about what “frozen” means in your case. You may be unable to sign in, send or receive money, use your Cash App Card, or access a balance while still being able to open the app. Describe the exact problem rather than treating all of these as the same issue. If you can sign in, note which functions work and which do not; if you cannot, say when you last had access and what happened when you tried.

Cash App’s U.S. Terms list in-app chat, the official help site, the phone number 1-800-969-1940, and written contact at Cash App, 1955 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, CA 94612. The Terms identify 1-800-969-1940 as the only phone number available for Cash App Support. Use the contact information shown in the app or on Cash App’s help site, rather than a number or link sent to you by an unsolicited caller, text, email, or social-media account. The app is usually the most direct starting point when you can access it. If you cannot sign in, use the official help site or the published support number instead. The postal address is another listed contact route, but mail is not described as a special appeal process. Allow yourself to keep a copy of any letter and proof of delivery; those records can help you explain what you sent and when.
Send a clear, concise request
Give support enough information to locate the account and understand the issue. Use the email address or phone number associated with your Cash App account and your $Cashtag through the official channel. Describe when access changed, quote the restriction notice as accurately as you can, and say what is affected: signing in, sending or receiving money, a balance you cannot access, a particular transfer, or a Cash App Card purchase. If there is a transaction problem, include its date and amount and explain why you believe it is wrong.
Ask directly: “Please review the restriction on my account and tell me whether I need to complete verification or provide documents. If documents are needed, how can I submit them securely?” If you have already contacted support, include the case reference and a short account of the steps you took. Keep the message factual; a concise timeline is more useful than speculation about why the restriction occurred.
A useful timeline might say when you first saw the notice, what you were trying to do, whether access changed suddenly or after a transaction, and what you have already tried. Include only details that help identify the account or clarify the restriction. If you are unsure whether a transaction is related, say so rather than presenting a guess as fact. Ask support to confirm whether the next step is identity verification, an account review, or a separate transaction dispute.
Prepare before you contact support
This is practical preparation, not a formal checklist that applies to every account review. Collect the details relevant to your situation before opening chat or calling:
- Your $Cashtag and the email address or phone number linked to the account.
- The date you first noticed the restriction and the exact wording and date of any notice.
- Which Cash App service or funds are affected, and whether you suspect someone else accessed the account.
- For a transaction-specific issue, the transaction date, amount, and reason you believe it is unauthorized or incorrect.
- Any previous support case references, replies, and steps you have already completed.
- A direct request for account review and clarification of any verification step.
Do not include passwords, PINs, or a full debit card number in your request. If Cash App asks for identity documents, first confirm through the official channel which documents are needed and how to submit them. Do not attach sensitive documents to a reply from an unsolicited sender just because the message uses Cash App branding.
For correspondence by mail, keep a copy of what you sent and proof of delivery. That is useful recordkeeping, not a special appeal requirement published by Block.
What to do if you cannot sign in or are asked to verify
If the app is still accessible
Open Cash App and use its in-app support or chat route. Describe the restriction and ask support to identify the next review or verification step for your account. If the restriction notice contains instructions, keep a copy and refer to its wording when you contact support.
If the issue began after a particular event—such as changing devices, noticing a sign-in you do not recognize, or seeing a transaction you did not make—include that fact and its date. Do not click links in suspicious messages to “unlock” the account. Navigate to Cash App’s support from the app itself or type the official help-site address.

If you cannot access in-app support
Use the official help site or the published support number, 1-800-969-1940. If you write to the postal address in the Terms, identify the account using the associated contact details and $Cashtag, explain the issue, and retain a copy. Do not search for an alternative “appeals number” supplied by a third party; the U.S. Terms say the published number is the only phone number available for Cash App Support.
When contacting support by phone, have your timeline and any case reference nearby so you can describe the problem consistently. Do not assume that a call or message has formally reported a separate card or transfer error; use the dispute steps for that product when applicable and ask support to confirm that the report has been recorded.

Ask which documents are needed and how to submit them through a verified Cash App channel. Do not send identity documents in response to an unexpected message or to someone claiming to be a recovery agent. Cash App says its representatives will never ask for your password, PIN, or full debit card number. A request for sensitive login credentials is a warning sign, not a verification step to follow.
The Terms say Cash App may require additional authentication when an account is accessed from a new device. They also say that if the company cannot verify an account, a customer may be required to set up a new account. That does not mean you should open another account to get around a restriction. Ask support how to proceed with the existing account and follow the instructions they provide through an official channel.
Why might Cash App freeze or restrict an account?
Block’s published terms and policies give it authority to restrict access in specified circumstances, but those general provisions do not explain why a particular customer’s account was restricted. A freeze alone does not establish that the account holder did something wrong. Ask Cash App support what review or verification step applies to your account; do not assume that a published policy example is the reason in your case.
Policy or account-information concerns
The Acceptable Use Policy says prohibited conduct can result in account closure, blocked app use, and sharing relevant information with law enforcement. It also says Block may suspend or terminate use for policy violations, including without notice. The Terms discuss restrictions related to inaccurate or incomplete information, suspected unauthorized or illegal activity, legal process, and reasons specific to particular features. These are examples of grounds described in the documents, not a diagnosis of an individual account.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesCash App’s policy states: “But, if you don’t follow our policy, we may close your account, block you from using the app, and share info about you and your activity with law enforcement.” Read the Cash App Acceptable Use Policy for the policy language. The Terms also say that for certain virtual-currency suspensions or terminations, Block need not disclose decision details. That feature-specific clause should not be treated as a rule covering every Cash App product or every account restriction.
Because the public documents describe categories of possible restrictions rather than individual decisions, a support response may not give you every detail you want. Still, you can ask what action is needed from you, whether verification is outstanding, whether the restriction affects a particular feature, and whether there is a separate route for a transaction dispute. Keep the question focused on what you can do next.
Legal or third-party holds
The Terms say Block may freeze, withhold, or remit funds in response to certain binding governmental or third-party demands, such as a subpoena, court order, search warrant, tax levy, garnishment order, lien notice, or other qualifying notice. If a hold is based on an outside legal demand, an ordinary account review may not resolve the underlying issue. Ask support what information it can provide about the restriction and whether it is tied to a legal or third-party order. If the issue involves a legal claim or funds subject to an order, consider getting advice from a qualified legal professional; a support request cannot substitute for advice about your specific rights.

Keep this possibility distinct from a routine identity check or a restriction involving one feature. If support indicates that an external demand is involved, ask what information or documentation can be shared and whether you need to contact another party. Do not treat an ordinary support review as a way to challenge a court order, levy, or other legal process.

Is this an account review or a transaction dispute?
These are different problems with different routes. A general account restriction is not automatically an electronic-transfer error or a Cash App Card purchase dispute. Do not apply a transaction-dispute deadline to every frozen account; identify the affected product and claim type first.
| Problem | What to do | Deadline or qualification in the published materials |
|---|---|---|
| General account access restriction | Contact Cash App support through the app, official help site, phone, or written route and request review. | The U.S. Terms do not establish one universal freeze-appeal deadline or reinstatement process. |
| Unauthorized electronic transfer or possible transfer error | Report the specific transfer through the applicable in-app dispute flow, support phone, or written route. Provide the account identifiers and details of the suspected error. | The relevant Terms describe deadlines tied to the specific error process. For some oral reports of covered errors, Block may require a written complaint within 10 business days. This is not a general freeze-appeal deadline. |
| Cash App Card purchase dispute | In the app, go to Profile → Support → Cash Card → Dispute a Purchase and follow the prompts. The Card Program Agreement says a form will be sent to initiate an investigation. | The Agreement describes a 60-day reporting period for the card-account error process it covers. Check the current agreement for the transaction and claim involved. |
For electronic-transfer error instructions and the limited written follow-up provision, consult the applicable Cash App Terms provisions on account inquiries and transfer errors. For Cash App Card purchase disputes, check the current Cash App Prepaid Card Program Agreement. The terms linked here are product-specific; confirm that the current agreement applies to your account and the type of transaction at issue, and contact support promptly rather than waiting to determine whether a deadline is close.
The 60-day periods and possible 10-business-day written follow-up are tied to particular error-reporting procedures, not to the time you have to appeal a general account freeze. The relevant start date, required details, and reporting method depend on the product and type of error. If you are unsure which terms apply, describe the transaction clearly and ask Cash App which process to use while reporting it promptly.
When a restriction and a transaction problem overlap
You may have both an account-access problem and a transaction you do not recognize. Tell support about each separately: request an account review, then identify the unauthorized transfer or disputed card purchase and use its applicable dispute route. A general request to unfreeze an account may not itself count as a formal report of a transaction error, and a dispute about one transaction does not automatically resolve a separate access restriction.
For example, if you cannot open the app and also see an unfamiliar card purchase on a statement or transaction record, say that both issues exist. Record the purchase date and amount, report it under the appropriate card-dispute route as soon as possible, and separately ask how to review the account restriction. If the issue is an electronic transfer rather than a card purchase, do not use the card-purchase route simply because it is easier to find; identify the transfer and follow the applicable error instructions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to keep a useful record while waiting for a response
Keep a dated record from the first notice through each contact with support. Save screenshots or copies of notices, the message you sent, replies, requested documents, and case references. Record the date and channel of any call, plus a concise note of what was discussed and what support asked you to do next. If you submit documents, note when and through which official channel you sent them.
Use the record to follow up consistently: refer to the existing case, state what remains unresolved, and ask whether any requested verification is still outstanding. If support gives you a next step, record it and complete it through the channel they identify. The public terms do not provide a universal response-time estimate for account reviews, so do not rely on an assumed number of hours or days as proof that a request has been denied or resolved.
A follow-up can be short: identify the earlier contact date and case reference, restate the affected feature or balance, note any step you completed, and ask what remains necessary. Avoid opening multiple vague requests that omit the earlier case history. If you receive different instructions, preserve both replies and ask support to clarify which action applies to your account.

Common mistakes that can put your account or information at risk
- Using an unofficial contact number or link. Start from the Cash App app or official help site; do not trust a phone number in a random search result, unsolicited message, or social post.
- Sharing credentials. Never give a representative your password, PIN, or full debit card number. Do not approve a login or transfer you did not initiate.
- Sending documents to an unverified person. Ask support how to submit them securely, and use only the official channel.
- Opening another account to bypass the restriction. The published terms discuss authentication and account verification; they do not advise creating a new account as a way to evade a restriction.
- Combining unrelated issues into one vague complaint. State the account-access issue separately from any specific transfer or card transaction, so the correct process can be identified.
- Assuming the freeze proves misconduct or guarantees a full explanation. The published policy lists possible grounds, not case-specific findings, and some feature-specific terms allow Block not to disclose decision details.
- Paying a third party to promise recovery. No outside service can guarantee that Block will restore access or expedite its decision. Keep the review request with official support.
What a Cash App review request can—and cannot—do
A request gives you a channel to ask Cash App to review the restriction, clarify applicable verification steps, and identify a separate transaction dispute route where relevant. Keep the request specific and preserve your records. The published U.S. materials do not promise that every freeze will be reversed, that support will provide a full explanation in every case, or that every account has the same appeal process. If a particular transaction or legal hold is involved, treat that issue under its own applicable terms rather than assuming an account-review request settles it.
Cash App’s U.S. Terms of Service were updated June 4, 2026, and describe contact routes and feature-specific procedures rather than a standard appeal timetable. The practical next step remains the same: use an official channel, explain the restriction and its impact, ask what review or verification action applies, and handle any transfer or card error through its own route.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I appeal a frozen Cash App account?
Contact Cash App through in-app support if you can sign in, or use the official help site or the published support number, 1-800-969-1940. State that you are requesting a review, include the date and wording of the restriction notice, identify what access or funds are affected, and ask whether verification or documents are needed. The published U.S. Terms do not establish one universal appeal form or guarantee reinstatement.
Why is my Cash App account frozen?
Cash App’s Terms and Acceptable Use Policy describe possible grounds including policy violations, inaccurate or incomplete account information, suspected unauthorized or illegal activity, legal process, and feature-specific reasons. Those examples do not explain an individual account decision. Ask official support what review or verification step applies; a restriction alone does not prove misconduct.

How do I get money out of a frozen Cash App account?
Contact official Cash App support and explain whether the issue is an unavailable balance, an account-access restriction, a transaction error, or a legal or third-party hold. Ask what process applies to those funds. The published materials do not promise that a support review will release every balance, and a hold tied to an order or other legal demand may require a different response.
How do I contact Cash App support about a locked account?
Use in-app chat if accessible, cash.app/help, or the only phone number for Cash App Support listed in the U.S. Terms: 1-800-969-1940. The Terms also list written contact at Cash App, 1955 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, CA 94612. Do not use numbers sent by unsolicited callers or messages, and never provide a password, PIN, or full debit card number.
Does the 60-day deadline apply to every frozen Cash App account?
No. The 60-day period described in the Cash App Card Program Agreement applies to the card-account error process it covers. The Terms also describe limited deadlines for certain electronic-transfer error reports, including a possible written complaint within 10 business days after some oral reports. These are not universal deadlines for appealing a general account restriction.
The Bottom Line
To ask for a review of a frozen Cash App account, contact official support, explain the restriction and what it affects, and ask what verification or review step applies. Protect your credentials, keep a dated record, and report any unauthorized transfer or card purchase through its separate dispute process. Block’s published U.S. materials do not promise a universal appeal path or account reinstatement.
