Allow ChatGPT as a Siri extension on iPhone
The menu depends on which Siri interface your iPhone shows. Apple documents two paths:

Siri AI (Beta)
- Open Settings > Siri > Set Up Extensions > ChatGPT.
- Follow the onscreen setup flow and turn on Use Extension.
Signing in to a ChatGPT account is optional. Apple says you must sign in if you want extension requests saved to your ChatGPT history. See Apple’s iPhone ChatGPT setup instructions.

- Open Settings > Siri > ChatGPT > Set Up.
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
This path sets up the ChatGPT extension, not arbitrary third-party Siri extensions.

Turn off the ChatGPT extension
Siri AI (Beta)
Go to Settings > Siri > Extensions > ChatGPT and turn off Use Extension.
Earlier ChatGPT extension interface
Go to Settings > Siri > ChatGPT and turn off Use ChatGPT. In this earlier interface, you can also turn off Setup Prompts to stop Siri from suggesting ChatGPT. Apple says Setup Prompts is not available with Siri AI.

What request confirmations do
Confirmation behavior also differs by interface. In the earlier interface, turning off Confirm Requests lets Siri send requests without asking first. Apple says this option is unavailable with Siri AI: you must first ask ChatGPT before a prompt, photo, or file is sent. Apple summarizes the control as: “You control when ChatGPT is used and are asked before any of your information is shared.” That statement should be read alongside the Siri AI confirmation limitation.

Find the extension controls on iPad
Open Settings > Siri on the iPad and look for the extension controls available on its software version. Apple’s reviewed iPad guidance confirms the Siri settings area but does not establish an exact step-by-step path for the ChatGPT extension toggle, so the iPhone sequence above should not be treated as a verified iPad procedure. Labels and options vary by Siri version.

For Siri AI (Beta), Apple lists an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPad mini (A17 Pro) or an iPad with M1 or later, running iPadOS 27 or later and set to a supported language. Availability varies by language and region. See Apple’s iPad Siri and Apple Intelligence guidance.
ChatGPT extension, Screen Time, and app suggestions are different controls

Use the extension switch when you want to disable ChatGPT specifically. Screen Time is broader: it restricts Siri or its capabilities. App Access governs suggestions and app learning, not extension access. Apple documents these distinctions in its Screen Time Siri restriction guidance and Siri App Access guidance.

Check device, language, and region availability
Apple describes Siri AI as beta. Its iOS 27 documentation lists eligible iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 models or later, and says Siri AI is initially available in English and unavailable in the EU on iOS. Apple Intelligence is not available in every language or region, and usage limits may apply. Availability can change; check the current Settings screen and Apple’s iPhone ChatGPT support page for current requirements.

Understand what is sent to ChatGPT
You choose what content to send. When the extension is used, Apple says the request and attachments, along with limited context such as time zone, country, device type, language, and the feature being used, are sent to ChatGPT. Apple says the IP address is obscured from ChatGPT while general location is provided.
Apple distinguishes signed-out and signed-in use. For signed-out requests, Apple says OpenAI processes the data to fulfill the request and does not store requests or responses unless legally required, or use them to improve or train models. When you are signed in, your ChatGPT account settings and OpenAI’s data privacy policies apply; the signed-out handling statement should not be assumed to cover signed-in use.
