To let selected people call while your Samsung Galaxy phone is quiet, configure exceptions in Do not disturb: go to Settings > Notifications > Do not disturb, then open Calls and messages or the equivalent allowed-calls control. Depending on your model, software and region, you may be able to pick contacts directly or allow favorite contacts only.
Set up allowed callers
- Open Settings and tap Notifications, then Do not disturb.
- Alternatively, open Quick settings and touch and hold the Do not disturb icon to open its settings. Samsung documents this shortcut in its Do not disturb support guide.
- Tap Calls and messages, or the similarly named control for calls allowed during Do not disturb.
- If you see a contact picker, choose the people whose calls you want to allow. Samsung’s German instructions show an Contacts hinzufügen (Add contacts) option for selecting people: Samsung Germany’s Do not disturb guide.
- If the available choice is Favorite contacts only, open Contacts and mark each permitted caller as a favorite. Then return to Do not disturb and select that option. Samsung India notes that calls from numbers saved as favorite contacts can get through: Samsung India’s Do not disturb guide.
- Review Repeat callers separately. If it is on, repeat callers may be allowed beyond your selected-contact rule; turn it off if you want calls limited to the people you chose.
- Choose any other exceptions you want, then enable Do not disturb. Samsung also documents scheduling the setting if you want it to turn on at set times.
Choose the contact-filtering option your phone provides

The displayed choice depends on the device, software version and region. Samsung’s India guide says, “Device screenshots and menus may vary depending on the device model and software version.” Its Germany guidance also flags regional variation. The recently updated German example uses a Galaxy S26+ running Android 16 and One UI 8.5; those screens are an example, not a guarantee that older or other regional models use the same menus.

If the menus do not match
- Search within Settings for Do not disturb and inspect its allowed-calls controls.
- Try the Quick settings shortcut: touch and hold the Do not disturb icon.
- Check whether an active mode or schedule is also turning on Do not disturb. If the main settings appear correct but calls behave differently than expected, review the active mode’s own settings as well.
- Use the Samsung support page for your region and software version if the labels or available choices differ.
Focus Mode and Do not disturb are different labels
People often call a quiet period “Focus Mode,” but Samsung’s support instructions for allowing calls use Do not disturb. Follow the Do not disturb controls described here; the exact menu names and options can vary across Galaxy phones.
