How to Adjust Brightness, Screen Size, and Motion Settings on XREAL One Pro+

By Freedom251 Team · · 10 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The XREAL One Pro+ adjustments are controlled from the glasses themselves. Double-click the red X button on the right temple to open the on-screen display (OSD), then use the X button and the plus/minus controls to change spatial screen size, viewing distance, leveling, and motion behavior. Brightness is available from the Quick Panel, provided the glasses have current firmware.

The documented One Pro defaults are a 171-inch virtual screen at 4 m. Screen size can be tuned in 4-inch increments, distance can be set from 1 to 10 m, and motion can use Follow, Anchor, or the optional Stabilizer compensation. The instructions below use the menu names documented by XREAL; labels and available options can change with firmware.

Controls you need before changing anything

All adjustments use the three physical controls on the glasses’ right temple:

  • Red X button: opens menus, confirms a selection, cycles motion modes, and selects leveling axes.
  • Plus and minus buttons: increase or decrease the selected value. Holding either button changes a value continuously or in the smaller step documented for that setting.
  • Double-click: opens the OSD from the normal viewing screen.
  • Long press: has a separate function in some contexts, such as recentering Follow mode.

Keep the glasses connected to the device you normally use with them and look at the virtual display while making changes. A value can be technically within its range but still feel uncomfortable if the screen is too large, too close, tilted, or moving in a way that does not match your activity.

Open the XREAL One Pro OSD

  1. Locate the red X button on the right temple.
  2. Double-click it. The OSD appears over the current view.
  3. Use the menu controls to choose one of the categories: Spatial Screen, Display, Sound, My, or Other.
  4. Press X to enter the highlighted item, adjust it with plus or minus, and use the on-screen controls to leave the menu.

If the OSD does not appear, first make sure the double-click is deliberate rather than two unrelated presses. If a documented item is absent after the menu opens, update the glasses through XREAL’s OTA firmware process before treating the omission as a hardware fault. XREAL ties the Quick Panel brightness shortcut and newer screen functions to firmware.

Change the virtual screen size

Exact menu path

  1. Double-click the red X button to open the OSD.
  2. Choose Spatial Screen > Screen Size.
  3. Press X to activate the size control.
  4. Click + to enlarge the virtual screen or – to reduce it.
  5. Hold plus or minus when you want fine adjustment. XREAL documents the hold operation as changing the size in 4-inch increments.

XREAL lists 171 inches as the One Pro default screen size. That figure describes the diagonal size of the virtual image as represented by the glasses, not a physical panel that you can measure in the room. A larger setting can make text and video appear more imposing, while a smaller setting can make the complete image easier to scan without moving your head as much.

How to choose a comfortable size

  • Start at the default rather than jumping immediately to the largest or smallest value.
  • Use a document or interface with text at the distance you normally use. If you have to sweep your head from side to side to read a line, reduce the size.
  • If small interface elements are difficult to distinguish while the image still feels stable, increase the size one fine step at a time.
  • Check the result in both bright and dark content. A size that looks comfortable on a full-screen film can feel excessive for a desktop with windows around the edges.

Screen size and screen distance are independent controls. Changing one does not automatically select a new value for the other, so adjust them separately and evaluate the combined result.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Move the virtual screen closer or farther away

Exact menu path

  1. Open the OSD with a double-click of the red X button.
  2. Choose Spatial Screen > Screen Distance.
  3. Press X to activate the distance control.
  4. Click + to move the virtual screen farther away.
  5. Click – to bring it closer.
  6. Hold plus or minus for the smaller distance step.

Each normal click changes the documented distance by 1 m. Holding a button changes it in 0.1 m increments. The documented default is 4 m, and the available range is 1–10 m.

Distance choices in practice

A closer setting can make a screen feel more immediate, but it may also require more eye and head movement when the image is large. A farther setting can make a large virtual screen easier to take in as a whole. There is no single correct distance: use the value at which text remains easy to focus and the edges of the image do not demand constant scanning.

For a precise adjustment, make one normal click first, then hold the appropriate button to approach the desired value in 0.1 m steps. If you overshoot, use the opposite control rather than repeatedly reopening the menu.

Adjust brightness from the Quick Panel

Shortcut procedure

  1. From the normal viewing screen, click either plus or minus. This opens the Quick Panel.
  2. Press X until Brightness is selected.
  3. Click plus or minus to change the level, or hold a button to continue changing it.
  4. Stop when the image is readable without feeling glaring, then allow the panel to close or leave it using the displayed control.

XREAL documents this shortcut as requiring current glasses firmware. If clicking plus or minus does not open a Quick Panel, update the firmware through the OTA process and try again. The exact number of brightness levels is not specified in the available documentation, so do not assume that a particular numeric range or percentage applies to every firmware version.

Brightness, motion, and perceived clarity

Brightness is not only a matter of room lighting. XREAL notes that natural visual persistence can produce slight blur or trailing when content or the viewing mode involves motion. Reducing brightness may lessen that effect for some viewers. Make changes while watching moving content as well as static text, because a setting that looks vivid on a still image can be less comfortable during motion.

Very low brightness can make small text harder to read, especially in a bright environment. Rather than compensating by making the virtual screen extremely large, try a moderate brightness increase and then revisit size and distance independently.

Choose Follow or Anchor motion behavior

Cycle between the modes

  1. Click the X button to cycle the available motion behavior.
  2. Stop on Follow or Anchor, depending on how you want the virtual screen to respond to head movement.
  3. In Follow mode, long-press X to recenter the screen when it is no longer aligned with your gaze.

In Follow, the screen moves smoothly with your head movement. This is useful when you want the image to remain aligned with your gaze as you turn or walk. If the screen appears offset, look toward the position where you want its center and long-press X to recenter it.

In Anchor, the screen remains fixed in a stable position in space. Turning your head changes your view of the room relative to the screen instead of carrying the screen along with your gaze. This behavior is generally preferable when you want a virtual monitor or video screen to stay in one place while you look around.

Mode or option Screen behavior When it is the better starting point
Follow The virtual screen moves smoothly with head movement. Walking, turning frequently, or keeping the image aligned with your gaze.
Anchor The virtual screen stays fixed in a stable position in space. Working at a virtual desk or watching while you want a stationary reference.
Stabilizer Applies real-time compensation for subtle head movement. Reducing shake during movement when the trade-off in image quality is acceptable.

The mode is a behavior choice, not a screen-size or distance preset. After switching modes, check the existing size and distance rather than assuming they were reset.

Reduce shake with Stabilizer

Turn it on or off

  1. Double-click the red X button.
  2. Open Spatial Screen > Stabilizer.
  3. Enable Stabilizer when you want compensation for subtle head movement.
  4. Return to the same item and disable it when display quality is more important than movement suppression.

XREAL says Stabilizer is enabled by default in Follow mode. It applies real-time compensation intended to make the image steadier during head movement. The feature can be useful while walking or when your head naturally makes small movements that you do not want transferred directly to the virtual screen.

Understand the trade-off

Enabling Stabilizer may impose brightness limits and can introduce slight blur or trailing. XREAL’s guidance is therefore conditional: enable it for a steadier image during movement, and disable it for better perceived display quality. If the picture looks less bright or less responsive after enabling it, that is an expected trade-off rather than proof that the glasses are malfunctioning.

For a stationary task, compare the same text or video with Stabilizer off. For walking or other movement, compare it while moving your head naturally. Choose the setting that solves the problem you actually have instead of leaving it enabled by habit.

Level a tilted screen in Anchor

Open Screen Leveling

  1. Switch to Anchor or Spatial Anchor.
  2. Open the OSD and choose Spatial Screen > Screen Leveling.
  3. Press X to cycle through the available axes: Roll, Yaw, and Pitch.
  4. Use plus or minus to change the selected axis.
  5. Continue until horizontal lines and other references look level.

Each adjustment changes the selected axis by 0.5°. The documented range is −5° to +5°. The setting supports power-off memory, so the leveling choice can persist after the glasses are turned off.

Which axis fixes which tilt?

  • Roll: corrects a side-to-side lean, such as a horizon that rises toward one side.
  • Yaw: corrects a left-right directional offset, useful when the screen faces slightly away from your intended position.
  • Pitch: corrects a nose-up or nose-down tilt.

Make one axis change at a time and use a straight visual reference. If the screen looks level but no longer faces the position you want, adjust yaw separately instead of changing roll or pitch to compensate.

A practical setup sequence

When configuring the glasses for a new room or activity, this order minimizes confusion between unrelated controls:

  1. Update firmware first. This is especially important if the Quick Panel or a documented screen feature is missing.
  2. Select motion behavior. Choose Follow for a gaze-aligned image or Anchor for a fixed-in-space image.
  3. Set distance. Start from the documented 4 m default and move in the desired direction using 1 m clicks or 0.1 m fine adjustments.
  4. Set size. Start from 171 inches and tune in the documented 4-inch fine increments until the full image is easy to scan.
  5. Level an anchored screen. If Anchor or Spatial Anchor is tilted, use Roll, Yaw, and Pitch in Screen Leveling.
  6. Set brightness last. Brightness changes perceived contrast and motion artifacts, so evaluate it after the geometry is comfortable.
  7. Test Stabilizer in the activity that prompted the adjustment. Leave it on for steadiness during movement or turn it off when display quality is the priority.

Troubleshooting common adjustment problems

The brightness shortcut does nothing

Confirm that you clicked plus or minus from the normal viewing screen, then press X to select Brightness in the Quick Panel. If the panel or Brightness item is absent, update the glasses firmware through XREAL’s OTA process. The shortcut is documented as firmware-dependent, so a missing control should be checked in software before assuming a button failure.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

The screen keeps drifting when I turn my head

Check whether Follow is selected. Follow intentionally moves the screen with head movement. If you need a fixed reference, select Anchor. If you prefer Follow but the image is merely offset, look toward the desired center and long-press X to recenter rather than changing screen distance.

The image shakes while walking

Enable Spatial Screen > Stabilizer and test it while walking or making the head movements that cause the shake. If brightness becomes limited or the image develops objectionable blur or trailing, disable Stabilizer and decide whether the unprocessed image is preferable. The two outcomes reflect the documented steadiness-versus-display-quality trade-off.

The screen is tilted

Use Screen Leveling only in Anchor or Spatial Anchor. Select the axis that matches the error, then adjust in 0.5° steps within the −5° to +5° range. Roll is for a side lean, yaw for facing direction, and pitch for an up/down tilt. Because leveling is remembered across power cycles, revisit it if you move between setups.

Text feels uncomfortable even after changing size

Do not solve every comfort problem by enlarging the screen. Try a different distance, moderate the brightness, and check whether motion behavior or Stabilizer is producing blur or trailing. XREAL recommends matching the One Pro M/L configuration to your interpupillary distance (IPD). If you need vision correction, XREAL also recommends prescription lens inserts or prescription lenses rather than relying on an uncorrected view.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Comfort and fit checks

Virtual-screen geometry cannot compensate for an incorrect optical fit. Match the One Pro M/L option to your IPD as recommended by XREAL. Users who require correction should use appropriate prescription lenses. After fitting the glasses, make adjustments while looking straight ahead and keep your head in a natural position; otherwise you may encode a tilt or offset into Anchor mode and then wonder why the screen appears wrong later.

Use short checks with both static and moving content. Static text reveals whether size, distance, and leveling are practical. Moving video or head movement reveals whether brightness, Follow, and Stabilizer produce acceptable blur, trailing, or shake. Make one change at a time so you can identify which control created an improvement or a new problem.
