Samsung Galaxy phones offer two different controls: app volume sliders change how loud an app plays, while Separate app sound sends selected apps’ media to a different output, such as a Bluetooth speaker. Choose the volume panel for loudness and Separate app sound for routing.
Choose the control that matches what you want

Adjust an individual app’s volume
- Start media playback in the app whose volume you want to change.
- Press a physical volume button.
- Tap the three-dot menu on the volume panel to expand it.
- Find the app’s slider and drag it up or down.
The app slider may not appear until the app has played media or otherwise shown up in the panel. If you do not see it, expand the panel while the app is actively playing sound.

Optional: Sound Assistant
Samsung’s Sound Assistant listing describes additional per-application volume controls. It is optional, not required for the volume-panel method, and Samsung notes that some devices may not be supported. Check the Galaxy Store listing for availability; it identifies version 8.5.00.2 dated 2026-05-22.

Route an app’s media to a separate output
- Open Settings > Sounds and vibration > Separate app sound. If you cannot find the menu, use Settings search for “Separate app sound.”
- Turn on the feature.
- Select the media apps to route. Tap Add apps if that option appears.
- Choose Phone or a connected Bluetooth device as the destination.
- Return to the previous screen. Reopen Separate app sound later to edit the app selection or destination.
The selected destination must be different from the phone’s main audio output. For example, you can route navigation audio through the phone while music plays through a vehicle’s Bluetooth system. A Bluetooth device may only appear as an option after you connect it. Samsung’s instructions are at Samsung Support.

Fix missing controls or unexpected routing
- Separate app sound is missing: Search Settings for the exact feature name. Menu availability and labels can vary by model, region, carrier software, and One UI version; Samsung notes that settings and screens may vary by carrier or software version in its support guidance.
- Your Bluetooth speaker or headset is not listed: Connect it first, then reopen Separate app sound.
- The app still plays through the main output: Check that its selected destination differs from the phone’s current main audio output.
- No app-volume slider appears: Start media in the target app, press a volume button, and expand the panel with the three-dot menu. On supported models, Sound Assistant may provide additional individual controls.
What sound-quality settings do—and do not do
Settings such as Dolby Atmos, equalizer, UHQ upscaler, and Adapt sound personalize playback. They do not replace app-volume sliders or Separate app sound routing. Available sound options vary by device and software; see Samsung’s support information.
