First, check your department, college or university’s current internship-report template: India has no single screenshot rule or universal report layout. If screenshots support work you describe, place them near the relevant explanation, number and caption them, make them legible, and remove confidential information before submitting the report.
Check the rules that apply to your programme
The current instructions from your own institution control. UGC guidance leaves internship evaluation to the parent higher education institution’s method; it does not prescribe a website-screenshot count, caption style or universal report template. Its suggested assessment aspects include the activity logbook, supervisor evaluation, report quality, skills acquired, originality, significance of outcomes and attendance. Research-internship guidance also refers to a project report and an originality undertaking or certificate. See the UGC internship guidance for the applicable provisions.

Ask your department or supervisor for the latest template and confirm whether screenshots are required or allowed, whether they belong in the main report or an appendix, and whether you must print or upload the final file. A college template may include specific sections and submission steps. For example, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Chandigarh, describes a prescribed report template and programme process; those instructions are local to that college and programme, not a format for every Indian student. Choose screenshots that support your account of the work
Use an image to clarify a task, interface, result or output that you have already explained in the report. A screenshot should help a reader understand evidence of your work, not serve as decoration or an unexplained gallery of web pages. The UGC guidance addresses report quality and evaluation, but does not set a screenshot-specific evidence rule; selecting only relevant images is a practical way to make the report clearer.

- Choose images that show a distinct step, feature or result.
- Remove duplicate or nearly identical captures.
- Keep enough page context for a reader to understand what is shown, while cropping unrelated browser controls if appropriate.
Capture, place and caption each image
Make the relevant content readable
Capture the page or state at a scale that remains legible in the report. If the screenshot is your own work, retain enough context to identify the interface or page. Review the capture at the size it will appear in the exported document; text that is readable on a large monitor may be too small in a printed or compressed report.
Put the figure beside the explanation
Place the screenshot close to the paragraph discussing it, or in an appendix if your template calls for one. Refer to its figure number in the text and explain what the image demonstrates. Use a consistent caption that identifies the subject and, when useful, the capture date and page or source. For example: “Figure 3. Internship project landing page, captured 12 September 2026.” This is a useful convention, not a nationally mandated caption format.

If an image is not your own work, identify its source or page. The guidance cited here does not settle every copyright or permission question, so do not assume that a publicly accessible page can automatically be reproduced in a report.
Protect personal, internal and confidential information
Before inserting a screenshot, inspect it for information that should not be shared. Remove or obscure credentials, account names, email addresses, access tokens, customer records, internal dashboards and other confidential details. Ask the host organisation or your mentor about approval where needed, and follow the organisation’s policy. The sources do not establish one screenshot-specific legal rule for every website use in India.

Export and inspect the final report
Follow your institution’s required file type and upload or print process. Before submission, inspect the complete exported document for image clarity, caption placement, page sequence, orientation and legibility. A PDF instruction from one institution is not a national standard: IGNOU’s online submission guidance for the June 2026 TEE cycle called for clear, correctly sequenced, consistently oriented scanned pages in a single PDF and specified learner details on the first page. Its stated deadline was 15 June 2026 and has passed; consult the IGNOU instructions only as an example of cycle-specific requirements, not as current instructions for other colleges.
Other local templates can specify their own formatting. For instance, Aditya Institute of Technology and Management’s internship-report guideline gives a particular sequence and formatting choices, including font, spacing and length requirements. Those are institution-specific, not requirements for all Indian internship reports. Check the AITS internship report guidelines only if they apply to your programme.

Capture screenshots yourself in a browser
The cited institutional guidance does not prescribe a browser or screenshot tool. A straightforward do-it-yourself method is to open the relevant page, bring the useful content into view, capture the screen with your operating system’s screenshot function, and review or crop the image before adding it to your document. For a long page, capture only the sections that support your explanation or use a browser feature that can capture a full page, if available. Check the final image for legibility and confidential information before inserting it.
