Before you begin
Make sure Wix Portfolio is installed on your site. If it is not, add it from the Wix App Market using Wix’s setup instructions. Have the screenshot file ready, or make sure it is accessible through Media Manager or another import source available to your account.

Add a screenshot as a project thumbnail
- In your site dashboard, select Portfolio.
- Hover over the website project you want to update and choose Edit.
- Beside Project Media, select Manage Media, then + Add Media.
- Choose Upload from Computer to select a saved screenshot, or choose an available import option such as Media Manager. Wix also documents importing from a URL, another Wix site or social accounts.
- Select the screenshot and choose Set as Cover. This makes it the project’s representative image in the portfolio.
- Adjust the focal point if the important part of the webpage is not centered in the crop. Add a clear title and description, and write alt text that describes what the screenshot shows. You can also attach a link to the media item.
- Select Done, then Save & Close.

Use a Portfolio project cover for a project-led portfolio
Choose this route when each screenshot belongs to a titled website project and should represent that project in a portfolio grid. Wix Portfolio can group projects into collections. Wix says the main portfolio page displays collections when more than one visible collection exists; with one visible collection, it displays the projects.

Use an Editor Gallery or Pro Gallery for a stand-alone image grid
If you want a visual grid rather than project records and collections, add an Editor Gallery or Pro Gallery instead. In an Editor Gallery, select the gallery, choose Change Images and Add Images, then select site files or stock media. Enter image title and alt text and select Done. Available settings vary by gallery type. Wix notes that the number of images affects loading time and recommends splitting large galleries into smaller ones. For Pro Gallery, select it, choose Manage Media → Add Media, select or upload the screenshot through Media Manager, then apply the changes. Wix recommends source images of at least 2560 × 1440 pixels for Pro Gallery and says it optimizes images to the displayed dimensions. That recommendation is for Pro Gallery media; it is not stated as a requirement for Portfolio project covers. See Wix Pro Gallery: Adding Media to the Gallery.

Fix an unwanted project-cover crop
Wix says a project page’s layout determines the cover image’s ratio, proportion and size; separate resizing of the project cover is currently unavailable according to its feature-request page. Its documented workaround lets gallery crop and fit settings control the display instead:
- In the project media, add the same screenshot twice as the first and second gallery items.
- Open the Project Media widget in the editor.
- In the widget’s Widget Elements panel, deselect Cover.
- Use the gallery’s thumbnail crop or fit setting to adjust how the image appears.
Follow Wix’s current instructions at Wix Portfolio: Resizing the Project Cover Image. The documented workaround is for the editor; the cited mobile instructions do not establish that the same crop controls are available in the app.

Edit portfolio media in the Wix app
Wix also documents a mobile route for editing project media: open your site in the Wix app, go to Manage → Portfolio, open the project’s actions and choose edit. You can change the cover and add media from Media Manager, My Boards, the device or Wix free images. See Wix Portfolio: Managing Your Projects in the Wix App.
Troubleshooting
- The image appears in the project but not as its thumbnail: reopen Manage Media and confirm you selected Set as Cover for the intended image.
- The subject is cut off: adjust the focal point. If the project layout still forces an unsuitable crop, use Wix’s duplicate-image workaround and let gallery crop/fit settings govern the display.
- You cannot find Portfolio: verify that Wix Portfolio has been added to the site through the App Market.
- You are building an image-only grid: use an Editor Gallery or Pro Gallery rather than treating every screenshot as a Portfolio project cover.
- A large gallery loads slowly: Wix notes that image count affects loading time; split a large gallery into smaller galleries.
