Add the Afterpay Card from the Afterpay app—not by searching for Afterpay in your wallet. Open Afterpay, go to In-store, choose the card setup option, then select Add to wallet and follow the prompts. The exact labels and wallets available depend on your country and device.
What you’re adding to your wallet
“Adding Afterpay to your wallet” means provisioning the digital Afterpay Card for a supported mobile wallet so you can use it for eligible in-store contactless payments. It does not mean adding an Afterpay account balance or manually creating a generic Afterpay payment method in the wallet app. Afterpay’s Australian setup instructions describe the card as a digital card added to a supported wallet.

How to add the Afterpay Card
- Open the Afterpay app and sign in. Update the app if an update is available.
- Open In-store. The capitalization and wording may differ slightly by app version or region.
- Choose the in-store payment or card setup option. The Australian instructions label these steps “pay in store” and “setup the card.”
- Tap Add to wallet and follow the wallet prompts shown for your device.
- Complete any verification and remaining prompts. The Australian instructions include entering an SMS code and tapping “next.” Follow the prompts in your own app; the US overview does not establish that every US user sees the same SMS step.
Afterpay’s Australia instructions and US overview both direct users to start in the Afterpay app’s in-store section. Treat the published button labels as examples rather than a guarantee that every app version uses identical wording.

Which wallet can you use?
Wallet availability differs by region. The official pages cited here list the following options:

What you need before setup
- In-store access on your Afterpay account. Afterpay says eligibility criteria apply in the US and additional verification may be required for in-store access. Availability is not guaranteed for every account. See Afterpay’s US overview.
- A device and wallet supported in your region. Afterpay directs users to check the relevant wallet’s eligibility. For Apple Pay, Apple lists a compatible device, a participating card issuer, an Apple Account signed in on the device, and Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID or a passcode among its prerequisites; some issuers may require additional authentication. See Apple’s setup requirements.
- Any verification requested in the app. The Australian and New Zealand setup guides document SMS verification. The exact steps may vary by region and account.
How to pay with it in a store
When paying at a participating merchant, open the supported wallet, select the Afterpay Card if it is not already selected, and tap your phone at the contactless terminal. Afterpay merchant support describes this checkout flow for Apple Pay or Google Pay; acceptance and account access remain subject to local Afterpay rules. See Afterpay Merchant Support.
