Then connect an alert provider such as Streamlabs, add its Alert Box widget to your OBS scene as a Browser Source, and test the overlay. The alert widget handles the on-screen notification; it does not keep the broadcast running or guarantee that every event arrives instantly.
1. Check that Super Chat is available for your channel and stream
Super Chat and Super Stickers depend on fan-funding eligibility and availability in your location. They are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, and made-for-kids videos, and when live chat or comments are turned off. Check the channel’s current status in the Earn tab in YouTube Studio; meeting general YouTube Partner Program thresholds does not by itself establish that every feature is enabled. YouTube’s Super Chat eligibility and policies explain the restrictions.
YouTube’s monetization page lists expanded YPP access thresholds of 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. These thresholds are not a guarantee of Super Chat access: feature-specific conditions and location availability still apply. Check YouTube’s current monetization requirements for the channel’s region and status.
2. Enable Super Chat and connect an alert provider
- Turn on Super Chat in YouTube Studio. Complete any eligibility steps and accept the applicable terms before configuring an integration.
- Link your channel to the provider. For Streamlabs, sign in with Google and follow its channel-linking flow. YouTube’s instructions say to confirm that Super Chat is eligible and enabled before setting up the integration. See YouTube’s third-party integration guidance.
- Configure the Super Chat alert. In Streamlabs, open the Alert Box settings and configure the YouTube Super Chat event. Set the visual design, message and duration to suit the stream layout. Streamlabs documents the Alert Box, widget URL and test function in its alert setup guide.
3. Add the alert to OBS as a Browser Source
OBS does not provide stream alerts itself; an alert provider supplies the overlay. In OBS, use the following workflow:

- Open the scene where the alert should appear.
- In the Sources panel, select + and add a Browser source.
- Paste the Alert Box widget URL copied from Streamlabs into the source’s URL field.
- Set the Browser Source width and height to fit the overlay design and your scene composition.
- Place and resize the source in the preview so an alert will be visible without covering essential content. If alerts should appear in multiple scenes, add the source to each relevant scene or use an OBS scene arrangement that shares it.
Streamlabs’ OBS instructions also use the widget URL as a Browser Source when the OBS plugin is not being used. Refer to the OBS alerts FAQ and Streamlabs setup steps if the current interface differs.
4. Test the overlay and the live workflow
Use the provider’s test function, then check the result in the OBS scene at the size viewers will see. Confirm that the text is legible, the animation is not obscured, and the alert appears in every scene where you want it. A provider test checks whether the overlay renders; it does not prove that a real YouTube Super Chat event has been received or that the integration will deliver every event during a long broadcast.

Before going live, preview the stream and check that its audio and video are accessible and behaving as expected. During a long encoder event, keep monitoring audio and video, encoder status, the network connection and any local recording you rely on. YouTube’s live-streaming tips recommend preview and ongoing quality checks.
What changes on a 24/7 stream?
Alerts are only one link in the chain
A working widget does not make the broadcast self-sustaining. For a continuous stream, separately check provider authorization, live chat availability, Browser Source rendering, encoder health, network stability, and audio and video quality. Confirm that the alert source remains in all intended OBS scenes and that the encoder stays connected. YouTube notes that external live-stream applications can use its Live Chat API to display comments and Super Chats. Its tools directory also says listed products are not made or endorsed by Google, so assess any provider’s own features and terms. See YouTube’s tools and services page.

Plan separately for archives
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours may be automatically archived, but “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” A 24/7 broadcast should not be assumed to produce a complete automatic archive. If preserving a recording matters, keep a local recording or plan shorter broadcast segments where that fits the project. See YouTube’s archive guidance.
Troubleshooting Super Chat alerts
- The provider’s test alert does not appear: Check that the Browser Source has the correct widget URL, is enabled and visible in the current scene, and has suitable dimensions and placement. Test again in the scene where the alert is meant to show.
- The test appears, but a real Super Chat does not: Verify that Super Chat is enabled for the channel and eligible live stream, live chat is on, and the provider still has authorization to the channel. A visual test does not validate receipt of a real YouTube event.
- The alert appears in one scene but not another: Add the Browser Source to the other scene or adjust the scene setup so it is shared. Check source visibility in the active scene.
- The overlay renders but is hard to read: Reposition or resize it in OBS and adjust its dimensions in the provider’s Alert Box settings. Check the result in the actual scene composition, not only in the provider’s preview.
- The stream or alerts stop during a long run: Treat encoder connectivity and alert delivery as separate problems. Check encoder and network status, provider authorization, live chat, Browser Source rendering, and audio/video monitoring rather than assuming the widget alone is responsible.
- You cannot find Super Chat settings: Check the Earn tab and the stream’s visibility, audience and chat settings. Availability depends on location and feature-specific eligibility; general YPP thresholds alone do not confirm access.

The documented OBS alert workflow requires an encoder computer capable of running your chosen streaming setup, but the available guidance does not establish a minimum PC specification or a need to buy new hardware. Consider an upgrade only if your existing system cannot sustain the stream you intend to run.
