To show the current Gurbani song name inside the live video, add a text source to the scene your encoder sends to YouTube. In OBS, the simplest option is a text source that reads from a file you update when the track changes. For automatic updates, the playback setup must reliably identify the current song and pass its name to the text source; an OBS playlist alone does not guarantee that synchronization.
A label in the video and the stream title on YouTube are different things: the first is part of the picture, while the second is broadcast metadata.

Choose where the song name should appear
- On the live video: Add a text overlay to the scene in your encoder, such as OBS. Viewers see the name over the imagery.
- On the YouTube watch page: Edit the stream metadata in YouTube Studio. This changes the stream listing, not the picture.

Add an on-screen song title in OBS
- Create or open the scene used for the broadcast. In OBS, select the scene that contains the Gurbani video or other visual layout being sent to YouTube.
- Add a text source. In the Sources panel, use the add control and choose the text source available in your OBS setup. Name it clearly, such as “Current song,” so it is easy to find later.
- Choose the text input. OBS text sources support custom text, including text read from a file. To use a file, enable the text-from-file option in the source properties and select the file that will hold the displayed song name.
- Position and style the label. Place it where it does not cover important imagery. Check contrast, size, and line wrapping against the actual video layout. Preview long titles as well as short ones.
- Test a change before going live. Change the file’s contents to another track name and confirm the on-screen text updates as expected. Then verify the first title and a track transition in the scene you intend to use.

Decide how the label will update for each track
Manual file update
For a sequence monitored by an operator, keep the displayed title in a text file and update it when the song changes. This is a straightforward starting point, but it depends on someone or something changing the file accurately at the right time. If the stream will be unattended, a manual workflow is not enough unless an operator will continue to manage it.
Automated update
For an unattended stream, the playback source or an integration must expose the actual current item and update the text source reliably. Confirm that the title changes at the intended track boundary and that missing or unknown metadata does not leave a misleading name on screen.

Do not assume that playlist playback automatically supplies a now-playing label. OBS documents playlist playback separately from text-source capabilities; its documentation does not claim automatic synchronization between them.

Using a local playlist in OBS
OBS’s VLC Video source can play a playlist, loop it, and shuffle it. VLC must be installed for that source to be available. These playback controls do not, by themselves, establish that the current filename or song title will appear in a separate text source. See OBS’s Media Sources guide for the documented playlist properties.

Keep song titles distinct from captions
YouTube’s live caption requirements describe captions as a visual display of audio, with supported routes including captions embedded in the video or sent through compatible software over HTTP. Captions represent spoken or sung audio; the documentation does not describe them as a method for displaying the name of the current track. See YouTube’s live caption requirements.

Check the stream before leaving it unattended
- Confirm the opening song name matches the audio actually playing.
- Watch a track boundary and verify the label changes at the intended moment.
- Check long names for clipping or unreadable line breaks.
- Decide what the overlay should show if the current title is unavailable; avoid leaving an incorrect song name displayed.
- If using automation, test the complete playback-to-text update path rather than only confirming that the playlist plays.
