You can send photos from an iPhone to a Samsung Family Hub refrigerator through the SmartThings app, then view them in the refrigerator’s Gallery or place them on the Home screen as a tile or wallpaper. Samsung’s US support guidance describes the process as: upload from the phone, then add the picture to the panel’s Home screen. The steps below follow Samsung’s documented workflow and flag where menu labels or software versions can change the path.
What you need before you start
- A Samsung Family Hub refrigerator already connected to your Samsung Account and set up in SmartThings on the iPhone.
- The SmartThings app installed on the iPhone. Samsung’s iOS guidance says Family Hub supports iOS devices such as iPhones and iPads when they are connected through SmartThings.
- Photo-library access granted to the app when prompted. Without it, the picker has nothing to show.
- Your refrigerator’s software version, if you are unsure which app to use. The app question is covered in its own section below.
No cable, storage device or adapter is part of the documented workflow. Everything happens over the network between the phone and the refrigerator.

Connect the refrigerator to SmartThings
If the refrigerator is not yet in SmartThings, Samsung’s iOS guide describes two routes. You can add a Samsung refrigerator by scanning the QR code inside the refrigerator door. Alternatively, you can add Family Hub without a QR code and finish the setup with Easy Connection on the refrigerator’s own screen. Either way, the refrigerator should appear as a device card in the SmartThings app before you try to upload anything.

- Open SmartThings on the iPhone and go to Devices.
- Select your Family Hub refrigerator to open its device card. Confirm you are on the correct refrigerator if you have more than one device listed.
- Tap Upload pictures and videos, then select Picture.
- If prompted, choose the photo source (Samsung’s US page names Gallery and Google Photos) and allow the access the app requests.
- Select the photos you want. Samsung’s US support page says you can upload up to 10 files per upload. Photos and videos must be uploaded separately, so do not mix them in one batch.
- Tap Done if the button appears, then tap Upload.
Expected result: the app reports the upload as sent, and the image shows up on the refrigerator within a short time. Samsung does not publish a fixed transfer time, so a larger batch will naturally take longer.

Find the photo on the refrigerator
Samsung describes two ways to locate an uploaded picture on the refrigerator:
- Notification: open the Gallery notification that appears on the refrigerator screen.
- Folder path: go to Apps > Gallery > Pictures.
The Pictures folder is also where you go later to manage what is already stored on the refrigerator.

Show the photo on the Home screen or as wallpaper
Uploading places the picture in the refrigerator’s Gallery. Putting it on the panel is a separate step:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Home screen tile: use the Add to Home action on the Family Hub screen, or select an empty area of the Home screen and choose Pictures.
- Wallpaper: Samsung says an uploaded photo can be used as wallpaper. The option is available from the picture once it is in the Gallery.
Exact labels can shift with software updates and by region, so if a menu item is not where this guide places it, look for the same action under the Gallery picture’s options or the Home screen’s add-widget controls.

Choose the right app for your refrigerator’s software
The app you use depends on the refrigerator’s software generation, and the sources do not present one consistent version scale:
| Refrigerator software | App Samsung points to | Source and notes |
|---|---|---|
| Below 6.0 | Samsung Family Hub app | Samsung Support US, date not stated on the page reviewed. Samsung directs these models to the Family Hub app. |
| TIZEN 4.0 and below | Samsung Family Hub app (legacy) | Samsung Family Hub app listing on the App Store. The listing says the app now works only for these versions and directs newer users to SmartThings. |
| Newer software than the above | SmartThings | Samsung directs newer refrigerators to SmartThings, which is the path described in the steps above. |
The sources do not map the “6.0” threshold onto the “TIZEN 4.0” wording, and they do not confirm the mapping for every region or model. If you are unsure, check the software version shown in your refrigerator’s settings and compare it against Samsung’s current support page for your model and country.

Compatibility limits to know about
Samsung’s support pages establish the workflow and the 10-file limit. They do not provide a complete list of supported image formats, resolutions or model-by-model compatibility. Do not assume every iPhone photo format will display correctly, and do not treat any file conversion as an official Samsung fix. If a particular photo will not upload or appears incorrectly, try a different photo before assuming a fault with the refrigerator.

Network and account requirements
Samsung Australia’s support guidance says the phone and the refrigerator should be on the same Wi-Fi network and signed into the same Samsung Account. The US instructions reviewed here do not state that condition in the same way. Treat it as a first check if uploads fail, not as a documented universal rule for every country.

If the upload does not appear
Work through these checks in order. This is general troubleshooting built on Samsung’s documented steps, not a manufacturer-tested fix:
- Confirm the correct Family Hub device card is selected in Devices.
- Confirm the photo-library permission was granted to SmartThings, and that you chose a source when prompted.
- Confirm the phone and refrigerator are on the same Wi-Fi network and the same Samsung Account.
- Check the refrigerator’s software version against the app table above and make sure you are using the app that matches it.
- Look in the Gallery notification and then in Apps > Gallery > Pictures on the refrigerator.
- Retry with a single photo to rule out a batch or file-type problem.
Sources and what they establish
- Samsung Support US, “Use your Family Hub refrigerator with iOS devices”: the core iPhone workflow, the SmartThings route and the quotable summary of uploading and adding pictures to the Home screen. The page’s publication year is not stated in the version reviewed.
- Samsung Support US, photo-management page: the 10-file limit and the separate upload rule for photos and videos. The year is not stated on the page reviewed.
- Samsung Australia support guidance: the shared Wi-Fi and Samsung Account requirement, and additional display guidance.
- Samsung Family Hub app listing on the App Store: legacy-version context. The listing states that the information has not been verified by Apple.
The app screens and menu labels described above reflect these sources at the time of writing, October 2026. The sources do not settle every model’s exact format or resolution limits, so check Samsung’s current page for your specific refrigerator if a detail differs.
