To add a song, open its More menu and choose Add to Playlist, then select a playlist. To remove a song, use the playlist’s edit controls on iPhone or the song’s More menu on Windows and the web. Removing a playlist entry does not delete the song from your library.
Add or remove songs on iPhone
Add a song
- Find the song in Apple Music and touch and hold it.
- Tap Add to a Playlist, then choose the playlist.
You can also add the currently playing song: from the Now Playing screen, tap More > Add to a Playlist, then select a playlist. Apple’s iPhone guide says playlist changes update across devices when Sync Library is turned on; it does not specify a synchronization time.

Remove a song
- Open the playlist and tap More > Edit.
- Tap the song you want to remove, then tap Delete.
This removes the entry from the playlist, not the song from your library. Apple explains this in its iPhone playlist instructions.
Add songs on iPad or Android
- Find the song, then tap its More button. For an album, you can tap More at the top of the album.
- Tap Add to Playlist and choose the destination playlist.
Apple’s instructions for adding music on iPad and Android cover these steps. The screens and new-playlist steps are not identical across iPhone, iPad, and Android, so follow the labels shown on your device.

Add or remove songs on Windows
Add a song
In the Apple Music app, either drag an item from your library onto a playlist in the sidebar, or open the item’s More menu, choose Add to Playlist, and select a playlist.
Remove a song
Open the item’s More menu and choose Remove from Playlist. Apple also documents selecting the item and pressing Backspace as a removal option. These actions remove the playlist entry; a song already in your library remains there. See Apple’s Apple Music for Windows instructions.

Add or remove songs on the web
Add a song
At music.apple.com, drag an item from your library onto a playlist in the sidebar, or open its More menu, choose Add to Playlist, and select the destination. You can also add a suggested song from the playlist’s Suggested Songs section.

Open the song’s More menu and choose Remove from Playlist. A song that is already in your library stays in your library and on your storage device. Apple’s Apple Music on the web guide describes these playlist controls.

What changes when you remove a playlist song?
Removing a song from one playlist does not delete it from your Apple Music library. You are removing that playlist entry, not deleting the song from your library or device. Deleting an entire playlist is a separate action.
