You can place several separate image galleries in one WordPress post or page without a plugin. In the Block Editor, insert a Gallery block at each location and give every block its own images and settings. In the Classic Editor, use Add Media → Create a Gallery each time, or insert separate shortcodes with explicit image IDs.
Choose the workflow that matches your editor
| Editor or method | How you add each gallery | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Block Editor | Insert one Gallery block per location, then select that block’s images and display options. | Posts and pages with galleries between headings, paragraphs, or other blocks. |
| Classic Editor media workflow | Place the cursor, choose Add Media → Create a Gallery, insert it, and repeat elsewhere. | Sites still using the Classic Editor and visual media-uploader controls. |
Classic shortcode |
Insert a separate shortcode for each gallery; use an ids list for a curated set. |
Shortcode-based content or templates needing explicit image selection. |
WordPress’s built-in tools handle ordinary, manually selected galleries. A plugin is not required. The core documentation does not state a product-imposed maximum number of galleries on a post or page. Gallery block Classic Editor gallery guide

Add multiple galleries in the Block Editor
1. Insert the first Gallery block
- Open the post or page in the Block Editor.
- Click where the first gallery should appear.
- Open the Block Inserter with the + button and search for Gallery, or type
/galleryin an empty block. WordPress also provides an in-content plus button for inserting a block. Work with blocks - Choose Upload to add files or Media Library to select existing images. You can also drag multiple images into the Gallery block.
2. Build and arrange that image set
Select the images for this gallery only. Use the image move controls or List View to change their order. Captions and descriptions can be edited as part of the gallery’s image settings.
3. Configure the block’s display
Select the parent Gallery block, rather than an individual image, to expose its block settings. Depending on your WordPress version and theme, documented controls include:

- Columns: from one to eight, limited by the number of images.
- Image resolution: choose the available generated image size.
- Crop and aspect ratio: make thumbnails uniform or preserve more of each image.
- Alignment: use the alignment options your theme supports, including wide or full width when available.
- Captions: add or display text for the gallery images.
- Link behavior: choose no link, an attachment page, the media file, or Enlarge on click for the Gallery block’s lightbox option.
These settings belong to this Gallery block, so changing them does not merge it with another gallery. Gallery block
4. Insert the next gallery at its own position
- Click after the paragraph, heading, image, or other block where the second gallery belongs.
- Insert another Gallery block.
- Upload or select a different group of images and arrange them independently.
- Set this block’s columns, crop, resolution, captions, links, and alignment as needed.
Repeat those steps for every additional location. Galleries can sit between text sections because each one is an independent block. If the order is wrong, select a Gallery block and use its move handles or up/down controls; List View can also help locate and reposition blocks. Work with blocks
5. Preview before publishing
Use Preview (or the site’s responsive preview) to check the order, spacing, captions, cropping, and lightbox behavior at the widths your visitors use. Publish only after each gallery contains the intended images.
Add multiple galleries in the Classic Editor
The Classic Editor has a separate media-uploader process; its buttons are not Block Editor controls.

The Classic Editor documentation specifies that a gallery can stand alone, appear above or below text, or sit within the text flow. The WordPress Gallery (Classic Editor)
Use separate gallery shortcodes when you need exact image sets
The basic shortcode is . Without an ids argument, WordPress documents it as displaying images attached to the current post or page. That behavior may include more images than the group you intended.
For a curated set, provide the image IDs explicitly:
The numbers above are documentation examples. Replace them with the IDs of images in your own Media Library. Add one shortcode at each desired position, using a distinct ID list for each gallery:

Confirm every ID in the Media Library before publishing. Galleries – Theme Handbook

| Type | Image source | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Gallery block | You deliberately choose the images in that block. | Separate project sections, portfolios, events, or any fixed collection. |
| Dynamic Gallery variation | Images attached to the post; the gallery updates when another image is attached. | Attachment-driven content where automatic updates are wanted. |
The Gallery block documentation describes Dynamic Gallery as an alternative and allows it to be detached into a regular gallery. It is not necessary for creating several separately curated galleries. Gallery block

Troubleshoot common multiple-gallery problems
The second gallery shows the wrong images
In the Block Editor, select the affected Gallery block and replace or reorder only its images. In a shortcode gallery, inspect the shortcode for an explicit ids list. If ids is absent, the documented attachment-based behavior may be the reason unrelated images appear. Galleries – Theme Handbook
Both galleries have the same layout
Layout controls are per Gallery block. Select the parent block for each gallery and set its own columns, crop, aspect ratio, resolution, alignment, captions, and link behavior. Wide and full-width choices depend on theme support. Gallery block
Images do not open in a larger view
In the Gallery block’s link settings, choose Enlarge on click for the documented lightbox behavior. This differs from linking to the media file or an attachment page. Gallery block
The galleries are in the wrong order
Use the Block Editor’s block handles, up/down controls, or List View to move an entire Gallery block. In the Classic Editor, cut and paste the inserted gallery or shortcode at the correct cursor position, then preview the result.
When a plugin makes sense
Choose a plugin only when the requirement goes beyond several hand-picked galleries—for example, automatically generating grids from posts or WooCommerce products and offering visitor-facing taxonomy filters. The WordPress.org listing for Filterable Post Gallery describes that specialized block and reports version 1.1.0, fewer than 10 active installations, compatibility with WordPress 6.8 or higher, and testing through 7.0.6 at the time of access on September 30, 2026. Those are changeable, vendor-maintained directory claims, not a requirement or endorsement for ordinary galleries.
