Add funds from PlayStation Store or your console, or redeem a PlayStation Store gift card. At checkout, wallet money is used first; if it does not cover the purchase, another available payment method can pay the remainder. The exact payment methods depend on your account’s country or region.
How to add funds on the PlayStation Store website
- Sign in to PlayStation Store using the account you want to fund.
- Select your profile icon, then choose Payment Management > Add Funds.
- Choose an available payment method and an amount, then follow the prompts to add the funds.
- To check your balance, open Payment Management; Sony says the balance appears at the top of the page.
How to add funds on PS5 or PS4
On PS5
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Add Funds.
- Select a payment method and amount, then continue and confirm the top-up.
You can also check your balance through the Store menu on PS5.

Use a PlayStation Store gift card or voucher
A PlayStation Store gift card adds funds to your wallet. You can also redeem a voucher code as described in Sony’s voucher redemption instructions. Check the code’s region before buying or redeeming it: the voucher must match the region of the PlayStation account. A card registered in a different country from the account’s Store region may also fail to link; Sony suggests using a card from the same region where possible, another available payment method, or a wallet top-up code.
How wallet funds work when you buy a game
At checkout, PlayStation uses your wallet funds first. If the wallet does not cover the full total, the remaining balance can be paid with another available payment method. For example, if a purchase costs more than the wallet balance, you can use an accepted payment option for the shortfall rather than adding funds first.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Payment options vary by country or region. In the United States, Sony lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay and Cash App Pay. That list is US-specific, not a global list; check Sony’s payment-method information for the region of your PlayStation Store account.
Choose a top-up method that fits your account
- Use a payment method if it is accepted for your account’s Store region and you want to fund the wallet directly.
- Use a gift card or voucher if you prefer prepaid spending or your usual payment method is unavailable. Confirm that its region matches your account before purchase or redemption.
- For subscriptions, check the payment requirements. Having wallet funds may not remove the need for a saved payment method.
Sony says added wallet funds cannot be refunded, so add only the amount you intend to use.

Child accounts and wallet spending
Child accounts do not have their own wallet and cannot add funds to one. A child may be able to make eligible purchases using the family manager’s wallet, subject to the monthly spending limit. Sony says the default limit is zero, so the family manager must review the limit if purchases are intended.

What to do if a wallet top-up fails
- Check that the payment method is accepted in the country or region of the account’s PlayStation Store.
- Verify the payment details and billing address. If the card was issued in a different country from the Store region, try a same-region card where possible, another available method, or a region-matched voucher.
- Check Sony’s wallet-funding troubleshooting steps and PlayStation service status if funding is unavailable.
- Review transaction history before trying again, to confirm whether the top-up or purchase completed.
- If the problem persists, contact the bank or card provider, or PlayStation Support. For card-linking issues, see Sony’s card troubleshooting guidance.
