To add a medication, open Health on your iPhone and go to Browse > Medications > Add a Medication. Enter its name, type, strength and the schedule that matches the instructions you have received. You can then set reminders and log doses as taken or skipped.
How to add a medication to the Health app on iPhone

Open the Health app and tap Browse.

Tap Medications, then tap Add a Medication. If you already have a medication list, the button may appear as Add Medication.

Type the medication’s name in the search field. In the United States, Health can show medication suggestions and offer camera-based entry. If you are outside the United States, cannot find the medication, or prefer to enter it yourself, tap Add and enter its details manually.

Select the medication type and strength. If the strength you need is not listed, Apple says you can enter a custom strength.

Set the schedule and duration, including start and end dates where applicable. The choices depend on the schedule pattern you select; options can include particular times, weekdays or a cycle.

Choose the medication’s shape and colors if you want to use those visual details, review the information, and finish adding it.

These fields record information you enter; Health does not establish or verify that a medication or dose is appropriate for you. Follow the directions from your healthcare professional or pharmacist. Choose a schedule that matches your instructions
Health offers different schedule patterns, but choosing one is a tracking decision—not a recommendation about how or when to take a medication. Enter the regimen you were given, and ask a healthcare professional if you are unsure what schedule to use.

- Regular timing: Use the schedule options that match the times or intervals in your instructions.
- Selected weekdays: You can specify particular days of the week when that schedule type is available.
- Cyclical timing: Use a cycle only when it reflects the instructions you have received.
Cyclical and specific-weekday schedules require iOS 18 or later, according to Apple. If Health shows Schedule Unavailable, the schedule type may not be supported by the iOS version on your iPhone. Update iOS if possible; otherwise, reset the schedule and select a different supported type that still matches your professional instructions. Apple documents corresponding requirements for iPadOS and watchOS when setting up those schedules on those devices.
Turn on medication reminders
Health can send notifications based on the schedule you entered. To enable medication reminders, open Health > Browse > Medications > Options and turn reminders on. Apple also documents an optional follow-up reminder if you have not logged a medication 30 minutes after its initial notification.

Log a dose as taken or skipped
After setup, return to Health > Browse > Medications and select the medication. For a scheduled medication, mark the dose Taken or Skipped. For an as-needed medication, select it and log Taken when you use it. Apple also supports logging from the Medications app on Apple Watch.

Medication suggestions and camera-based entry are available only in the United States in Apple’s instructions. Apple also says drug-interaction information is available only in the United States. Medications you add manually because they are unlisted are not included in potential drug-interaction checks. If an interaction or medication information is important to a decision, consult a healthcare professional rather than treating Health as a complete lookup or clinical tool.

Use Health as a tracker, not medical advice
Apple cautions: “The Medications feature should not be used as a substitute for professional medical judgement.” Apple also advises consulting a healthcare provider before making health decisions related to the feature. Health can store the medication details and schedule you enter, send reminders, and record logs; it does not prescribe a medication, confirm a dose, or decide whether you should take it.
