To add Hindi subtitles to an ended YouTube Live event, open the replay in YouTube Studio, go to Subtitles, add Hindi, and create the track by uploading a timed subtitle file or entering text manually. You can also use auto-sync when your transcript is in the same language as the spoken audio. Auto-sync does not translate speech into Hindi.
First choose: Hindi transcription or Hindi translation?
These are different jobs. If people spoke Hindi in the replay, you need Hindi transcription: Hindi words timed to the Hindi speech. If they spoke another language and you want Hindi subtitles, you need a Hindi translation of that speech. YouTube’s auto-sync option can match a transcript to speech, but the transcript must be in the language spoken in the video. For a Hindi translation of non-Hindi speech, prepare Hindi subtitle text and upload it with timings or enter it manually.

| Method | Use it when | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Upload a timed subtitle file | You already have Hindi subtitles with timestamps. | YouTube lists basic SubRip (.srt) files in plain UTF-8 as a supported format. Check that the file’s Hindi text and timings are correct before publishing. See YouTube’s supported subtitle and closed-caption file formats. |
| Type manually | You need to enter or correct subtitles in Studio, especially for a short replay or a few edits. | Enter the Hindi text while playing the replay, check when each line appears, and publish the track. |
| Auto-sync a transcript | You have a transcript in the same language as the replay’s speech and want YouTube to align it with the video. | This is not a translation method. YouTube does not recommend auto-sync for videos over an hour or videos with poor audio. |
| Review automatic VOD captions | You want to check whether YouTube has generated captions for the replay’s spoken language. | Automatic captions may be delayed or inaccurate. Review and edit them; they do not translate non-Hindi speech into Hindi. |
Live captions and replay subtitles are not the same
Captions sent during a broadcast are part of the live-caption workflow. YouTube documents live captions sent in the video or through supported caption-ingestion software; that setup is for a stream in progress, not for adding a Hindi track to an archived event. For an ended event, use the replay’s Subtitles page in Studio. See YouTube’s live caption requirements.

YouTube Help says: “Automatic captions for live streams are available in English only.” Live automatic captions do not remain on the video after the stream ends. YouTube generates captions for the replay separately through its video-on-demand process, and those captions may differ. Hindi appears in YouTube’s list of languages for automatic captions on long-form videos; that does not mean Hindi live automatic captions are available. Check whether captions have been generated for the replay, then edit or add a Hindi subtitle track as needed. See YouTube Help: Use automatic captioning.
Review the published Hindi subtitles
Play the replay after publishing and check more than the opening minute. Verify that lines appear and disappear at the right time, the Hindi script is legible, names and specialist terms are correct, and line breaks do not obscure important video content. If you used automatic captions or a machine-generated transcript, review it carefully: accents, dialects, mispronunciations, and background noise can cause recognition errors, as YouTube notes in its automatic-caption guidance.

Troubleshooting
- Hindi is missing from the replay: Confirm you selected the correct replay, added Hindi under Add language, and saved or published the Hindi track.
- The subtitles repeat the original-language transcript instead of translating it: Auto-sync aligns same-language text; it does not translate. Provide translated Hindi text and add it by file upload or manual entry.
- An SRT upload fails or Hindi characters display incorrectly: Check that the file is a supported basic SubRip .srt and saved as plain UTF-8. Review the text and timestamps in the file-format guidance: Supported subtitle and closed-caption files.
- Live captions are absent from the replay: YouTube says live automatic captions do not remain after a stream ends. Check for separately generated VOD captions, or add the Hindi track in Studio.
- Automatic captions contain errors: Correct them before relying on them as subtitles. YouTube warns that accents, dialects, mispronunciations, and background noise can affect accuracy.
For viewers who need subtitles in another language, YouTube also explains creator-provided translated subtitles in its content translation tools guide.
