You can add funds to a PlayStation account from a web browser, a PS5, or a PS4, or by redeeming a PlayStation Store gift card (voucher code). Each route ends in the same account wallet. Which payment methods you can use depends on the country or region of your PlayStation Store account, so check that first.
Choose the route for your device
PlayStation’s support pages describe an Add Funds option on each platform. The menu labels below come from PlayStation Support and may shift slightly with system software or regional site updates, so if a label differs, look for the same Payment or Wallet area in the same menu.

With a PlayStation Store gift card
A PlayStation Store gift card can be redeemed as a voucher code to add funds. Before you buy a card, confirm that it is valid for the country or region your account is registered to. A voucher from another region will not help an account in a different Store region.

There is no single global list of accepted payment methods. PlayStation’s regional support pages each list their own options, and the set can differ from one country to another. The table below uses the UK support page as one example. It does not apply to every region.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
| Payment option (UK example) | What to know |
|---|---|
| Visa, Mastercard, American Express | Card payments; the card must be accepted for the account’s Store region. |
| PayPal | Listed on the UK support page as an accepted method. |
| Paysafecard | Listed on the UK support page as an accepted method. |
| Apple Pay | Listed on the UK support page as an accepted method. |
| Mobile billing (Three, EE, O2) | Available only through participating carriers. The mobile SIM and the PlayStation account must be registered in the same country or region. Carrier spending limits may apply. |
The Canada support page lists a different set of options, so always check the payment page for your own Store region.
When a card is refused
PlayStation says a payment card registered to an address in a different country from the account’s Store region may not link. If a card from the same country as your account cannot be used, PlayStation’s US troubleshooting page points to an alternative payment method or a PlayStation Store wallet top-up code. Try those options before assuming the wallet is broken.

How the wallet works
Each adult account has a wallet. When you buy something, wallet funds are used first. If the balance does not cover the total, the remainder is charged to another payment method on the account. PlayStation also says that a subscription bought with wallet funds may still require a payment method.

Added funds cannot be refunded, according to PlayStation’s wallet guide. The US terms state that wallet funds are non-refundable and non-transferable except where the law requires otherwise. Those terms are written for the US; for other countries, read the terms that apply to your Store region.
Rank #3
- Redeem for anything on PlayStationStore: games, add-ons, PlayStationPlus and more.
- Everything you want to play. Choose from the largest library of PlayStation content.
- Use gift card funds to contribute towards PlayStationPlus memberships.
Child accounts
A child account does not have its own wallet and cannot add funds directly. A child can make purchases within a monthly spending limit that draws on the family manager’s wallet. When the child account is created, that limit is set to zero, so a family manager needs to raise it before the child can buy anything with the family wallet.
