You can then choose whether to share your real name and picture before tapping Send Request. Incoming requests and sent requests are managed from the relevant player profile or the Requests screen.
Add a friend in the PlayStation App
- From the app’s home screen, select Friends, then Add Friend.
- Search for the player and open the profile that matches the person you want to add. Check the player’s identity before sending a request.
- Select Add. When prompted, decide whether to share your real name and picture. This is optional.
- Select Send Request.
PlayStation’s friend request instructions describe these app labels. They may vary slightly by app version or region.

Accept or decline incoming friend requests
Open Friends > Requests in the app. Choose Accept to add the requester or Decline to dismiss the request.
Cancel a friend request you sent
Open the recipient’s profile, select Sent, then choose Cancel Friend Request.

Remove an existing friend
Open that player’s profile and select Friends > Remove as Friend.
Why can’t I find someone?
Check the spelling and the player’s online ID first. Search results can also depend on the other player’s privacy settings. PlayStation Support notes that “Search results may vary depending on a player’s privacy settings.” Your own privacy settings determine who can send you a friend request, so a player may not be able to request you even if you can find their profile. The support guidance does not identify one setting that guarantees every player will appear.

Using a PlayStation console instead
If you are already on a console, PlayStation provides separate instructions: on PS5, use Game Base and the Friends or Friend Requests tabs; on PS4, use Friends and Friend Requests. Menu wording and placement differ from the app.
