Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsYou can’t give each episode its own title and artwork inside a single, uninterrupted YouTube live video: that stream is one video with broadcast-level metadata. To make episodes browsable with distinct episode details, publish them as separate videos in a YouTube podcast playlist or connect an RSS feed. You can edit a live broadcast’s title in Live Control Room, but the official YouTube documentation reviewed does not describe automatic episode-by-episode title and artwork rotation within one continuous broadcast.
Choose between podcast episodes and one continuous live video
| Your goal | Use this YouTube workflow | What viewers get |
|---|---|---|
| Separate, browsable episodes with episode-level details | Create a podcast in YouTube Studio, designate a playlist of full episodes as a podcast, or connect an RSS feed | Each episode is a video; podcast show art is square artwork. RSS can create episode videos from feed entries. |
| One continuous live watch page | Create or manage an encoder stream in Live Control Room; edit the broadcast metadata there or through the Live Streaming API | One live broadcast video with its own title and description. |
| Recurring live events that reuse encoder settings | Reuse stream settings or associate separate broadcast resources with one stream resource | Separate broadcast events can have separate metadata; YouTube’s API guide describes one event live at a time. |
The key distinction is between podcast show artwork and an image associated with a live video. YouTube’s podcast workflow gives a podcast square show art and episode videos. A continuous live broadcast is a single video; changing its title does not turn sections of that video into separately titled episodes.

Set up a YouTube podcast with episode titles and show artwork
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Content → Podcasts.
- Create a podcast, or open playlist options to enable podcast features for a playlist containing full episodes.
- Enter the podcast title and description, then add square podcast artwork. YouTube Help recommends a podcast thumbnail of 1280 × 1280 pixels; the cited page does not state a publication year for that recommendation.
- Add each episode as its own video to the podcast playlist. Set each video’s episode title and other details, then arrange the playlist order.
- To revise the show’s details, return to the podcast’s Details page and edit its title, description, square thumbnail, visibility, or video order.
An MP3 by itself cannot be turned into a YouTube podcast: YouTube represents each podcast episode as a video. YouTube advises using podcast features for playlists of full episodes, not collections of clips or season playlists. See YouTube Help: Create a podcast in YouTube Studio.
Use an RSS feed to create episode videos
- In YouTube Studio, open Content → Podcasts and select the podcast’s Details page.
- Connect the podcast’s RSS feed and choose the episodes to deliver. YouTube uses the podcast’s show art to create a static-image video for an episode.
- Publish new episodes to the connected feed. YouTube can upload new feed episodes automatically, where RSS ingestion is available.
RSS ingestion is available only in selected countries or regions; check YouTube Help: Deliver podcasts using an RSS feed for current availability and setup requirements.

Know which metadata source controls changes
- YouTube does not automatically update podcast show details when those details change in the RSS feed.
- Episode details can update from RSS until you edit that episode’s details in YouTube Studio. After a Studio edit, YouTube blocks future RSS edits to those details.
- To replace audio for an RSS-ingested episode, re-upload that episode from the feed. YouTube creates a new video and makes the previous video private.
- YouTube sorts RSS-uploaded videos by the feed’s release date when available, but says it does not verify that date. Different YouTube surfaces may show the feed release date or YouTube publish date.
These rules are documented in YouTube’s RSS delivery help and its episode details guidance.
Change the title of a continuous live broadcast
Edit it in Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Create or select the encoder stream or scheduled broadcast.
- Open the stream settings and edit the broadcast metadata, including its title. YouTube says settings can be edited when a stream is created, scheduled, or selected for editing.
- If you reuse a previous stream’s settings, review the new broadcast’s metadata before going live so the title matches the event.
See YouTube Help: Manage your live stream settings and YouTube Help: Create a live stream with an encoder.

Automate title and description updates with the API
For a custom integration, the YouTube Live Streaming API’s liveBroadcasts.update operation supports updating snippet.title and snippet.description. Requests require YouTube OAuth authorization. Follow the current method documentation carefully: an update request must include the required resource fields, and omitted existing properties may be deleted. Check the current writable-field list before building or running an integration.
The API represents each liveBroadcast as exactly one YouTube video. YouTube documents using one stream resource with multiple broadcast resources for recurring events, with only one event live at a time. This supports separate events with separate metadata; it does not document a built-in scheduler for changing episode metadata within one never-ending broadcast. Consult the liveBroadcasts.update reference, liveBroadcast resource, and broadcasts and streams guide.

Can a live stream’s title and artwork change for every episode?
You can change a live broadcast’s title through Live Control Room or the documented API. However, the official documentation cited here does not describe automatically rotating titles and artwork for successive episodes inside one uninterrupted live video. The API’s update method documents title and description fields; although the broadcast resource includes thumbnail information, the update method’s documented writable properties do not include a thumbnail field. YouTube explicitly provides square artwork for podcast shows, which is a different workflow.
If each episode needs its own title and image for browsing later, use separate episode videos in a podcast playlist or RSS delivery. If one continuous live watch page is the priority, treat it as one broadcast with broadcast-level metadata rather than assuming it will behave like a sequence of podcast episode pages.
