How to Add Crossfades Between Songs in a 24/7 Indian Music YouTube Stream

To crossfade songs in a 24/7 YouTube music stream, play the playlist in software with explicit crossfade controls, then route its audio into your streaming encoder. RadioBOSS documents both crossfade settings and playback-device selection. OBS’s VLC playlist source can loop or shuffle tracks, but its documentation does not describe crossfading between them.

Crossfades smooth the joins; they do not keep a broadcast online by themselves. You still need a working player, audio route, encoder, power and internet connection—and permission to livestream every recording in the playlist.

What a crossfade does—and what a playlist loop does not

A crossfade overlaps two tracks: the outgoing song fades down as the incoming song fades up. In RadioBOSS, the “Mix point” is where the next track begins before the current one ends. A playlist that repeats or loops does not, on its own, mean that its tracks overlap.

The right overlap depends on the music. A long instrumental ending may need a different transition from a song that ends abruptly or moves straight into vocals. There is no single duration that suits every bhajan, kirtan, Gurbani recording or Hindi music playlist; audition transitions and adjust them by ear.

Set up crossfades with RadioBOSS and OBS

This workflow uses RadioBOSS as the crossfade-capable player and OBS as the encoder. RadioBOSS’s documentation covers the relevant controls, but the exact method for feeding its output into OBS depends on your operating system and audio devices. Treat the routing step as a setup pattern, then verify it on your computer.

  1. Prepare the playlist. Make a playlist of recordings you are authorized to use in a public livestream. Check the track order and confirm that it repeats as intended.
  2. Open the crossfade controls. In RadioBOSS, go to Settings > Crossfades. The RadioBOSS quick-start guide points to this page, and the crossfading manual describes the settings.
  3. Enable the overlap and set the fade behavior. Configure the mix point so the next track starts before the current track ends. Review Fade in, Mix point, Trigger mix at, Fade out and Start fading out on mix. The manual shows a default sound-level trigger of –14 dB and says the mix point must also be enabled for that trigger behavior. Treat the default as a starting point, not a recommendation for every song.
  4. Audition a variety of transitions. Listen to track pairs with different openings, tempos and endings. Adjust the overlap if vocals, percussion or lingering instrumental decays clash. Check the playlist’s end-to-start transition as well as ordinary song changes.
  5. Choose RadioBOSS’s playback device. Set its main sound-card output to the device or route that will feed OBS. RadioBOSS documents system and virtual-card devices as possible choices; a physical mixer or interface is not automatically required. See its playback-device documentation. The routing method varies by computer, so confirm that the chosen output is available to your encoder.
  6. Capture the audio in OBS. Add or configure an audio input that receives the RadioBOSS output, then play a track and watch OBS’s audio meter. Confirm that the program output includes the music and that the meter responds through a song transition. The OBS media sources guide documents its media sources and VLC playlist source; it does not document a crossfade control for VLC playlist items.
  7. Test before making the broadcast public. Start an unlisted stream and listen to the YouTube output—not just the local player. Check transitions, levels, playlist looping, audio continuity and stream stability. YouTube for Artists recommends an unlisted test, particularly for high-production or high-investment events, in its going-live guidance.

Choosing between a crossfade player and OBS’s VLC playlist

Approach What the documentation establishes What to plan for
RadioBOSS feeding an encoder RadioBOSS documents crossfade controls and playback-device settings in its crossfading manual and playback guide. You must route the player’s output into the encoder and verify that route on your computer.
OBS VLC playlist source OBS documents playlist playback, looping and shuffle in its media sources guide. The cited OBS documentation does not describe crossfading between playlist items. Do not assume that a looping playlist will overlap tracks.

These are different capabilities, not a complete ranking of streaming products. If smooth song joins are essential, use a player with explicit overlap and fade controls; if you use OBS’s VLC source alone, verify its behavior rather than assuming it crossfades.

Meet YouTube’s live-stream requirements

YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guide says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its guidance also describes encoder-based streaming. YouTube for Artists advises enabling first-time livestreaming at least 24 hours before going live and testing beforehand; check the current YouTube Live Control Room because account requirements and interface steps can change.

Crossfading handles the joins between songs, not continuous operation. For an unattended stream, test whether playback repeats correctly and what happens if the player, audio route, encoder, computer, power or network fails. A successful test helps identify problems, but no particular configuration should be treated as a guarantee of uninterrupted uptime.

Clear music rights before streaming

YouTube says it scans live streams for matches to third-party content. A match can trigger a warning and placeholder; continued use may interrupt or terminate the livestream. YouTube also advises that, for licensed third-party material, the rights owner add the channel to its Content ID allowlist—otherwise a licensed stream may still be interrupted. Read YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and coordinate with the relevant rights holder, label or distributor before broadcasting.

Do not assume that a listening subscription, credit line or permission for a different use covers continuous public livestreaming. The applicable permissions depend on the recordings, rights holders, territories and whether you also make an archive available. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a universal India-specific licensing checklist; for an Indian catalog or business model, confirm the required rights with the rights holders or a qualified local adviser.
