To include background music throughout a Restream pre-recorded YouTube stream, mix the music into the video file before uploading it. Restream’s documented pre-recorded workflow schedules a prepared video; its Music controls are documented for Restream Studio, and the available instructions do not say they add audio to an already uploaded video.
Choose where the music should be added
There are two different workflows, and they do not do the same thing:

| Method | What it does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Mix music into the video before upload | The music becomes part of the prepared file’s audio. | A pre-recorded event where music should accompany the video, including when you need to control its timing and level across the recording. |
| Play music in Restream Studio | Studio plays built-in or uploaded tracks during a Studio stream. | A stream produced in Studio, rather than an already prepared pre-recorded video file. |
Restream’s instructions describe Studio playback separately from selecting and scheduling a video file. They do not establish that Studio music controls edit or mix audio into that stored file. Preparing a mixed video externally is the practical route for a pre-recorded event; it is a workflow recommendation, not a claim that Restream includes a video editor. Restream’s built-in music instructions, custom music instructions, and pre-recorded event instructions cover these workflows.

- Prepare the finished video in an editor. Import the recording and the music track, then place the music under the spoken audio or other sound you want to keep. Restream’s documented pre-recorded workflow does not provide a mixing step.
- Set the music level and timing. Keep it low enough that speech and important original audio remain clear. Trim, fade, or loop the track as needed so it covers the intended sections without an abrupt ending. Preview the complete mix before exporting; the exact controls depend on the editor you use.
- Export to a supported format. Restream lists MP4, MOV, M4V, and MKV containers, H.264 video encoding, AAC audio, and a keyframe value of 2 as mandatory requirements for pre-recorded videos. See Restream’s pre-recorded video requirements.
- Check the audio before scheduling. Confirm that the exported file plays with both the original audio and music, that the mix is not clipped or unexpectedly silent, and that the file meets the required format and codec specifications.
Restream’s separate YouTube guidance recommends AAC or MP3 audio, 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround, and a sample rate of 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1. Those are YouTube stream recommendations, not a replacement for Restream’s mandatory pre-recorded upload requirements; for the uploaded pre-recorded file, Restream specifies AAC. See Restream’s YouTube streaming settings.

When Restream Studio music controls are the right choice
If you are producing a Studio stream rather than scheduling an existing video file, Restream documents both built-in and custom music playback.
Use Restream’s built-in music
In Restream Studio, click Music, choose a genre or mood, then control playback and volume. Restream describes this as copyright-free music, but you should still follow its applicable license terms. The controls are documented for Studio playback, not as a way to add a track to a stored pre-recorded file. See Add copyright-free music to your stream.

Check music rights before broadcasting
Use music you own or are licensed to use for the intended video, stream, and destination. Restream strongly advises against uploading music without ownership or a license and warns that platforms may shut down streams or impose strikes or penalties over unlicensed music. A label such as “copyright-free” is not by itself a guarantee that a particular use is covered.

Restream’s published Music Licensing page says its music may be used for free in multimedia projects, including YouTube videos and live streams, under an attribution license. It gives example credits: “Music from Restream.io (https://restream.io/)” or “Music: “[Song Title]” from Restream.io”. The page also restricts uses including claiming the music as your own, registering it in a store or on a commercial platform, using it as a standalone track, and registering it with Facebook or YouTube Rights Manager. Read the live terms and include the required credit before publishing. These are Restream’s stated terms, not independent legal advice.
Restream’s cited guidance warns of platform enforcement but does not establish how YouTube will handle a specific claim or dispute. Do not assume that licensed or Restream-provided music can never trigger a claim; consult current YouTube guidance if one arises.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The scheduled video has no music. The music may have been played in Studio rather than mixed into the uploaded file. Check the exported video itself before scheduling; if the track is absent there, mix and export the file again.
- Restream rejects the file. Check the container, video encoding, audio codec, and keyframe against the pre-recorded requirements: MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV; H.264; AAC; keyframe 2. Re-export with compliant settings if needed.
- The music is too loud or speech is hard to hear. Adjust the mix in the editor, then preview the exported file with headphones or speakers before uploading. Restream’s cited requirements do not prescribe a background-music-to-speech volume ratio.
- A track is missing or plays at the wrong point. For a pre-recorded event, confirm its timing in the edited file. Studio playback controls apply to Studio streams; they are not documented as a way to set music timing inside a stored video.
- You are worried about a copyright claim. Verify that the license covers the intended use and destination, keep a copy of the license or permission, and provide required attribution. A license does not justify promising that a platform will never issue a claim.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuously running YouTube channel using uploaded videos, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live.
