Use the Waveform plugin for a new OBS setup: add its visualizer source to your radio scene, select the audio source carrying the jazz program, and test the complete stream before relying on it. Waveform supports Windows, macOS, and Linux; the plugin adds visual effects, but it does not keep your computer, connection, or broadcast online by itself.
Choose a visualizer plugin
For a new installation, Waveform is the better-documented choice. Its OBS resource listing shows version 1.9.1, updated July 14, 2026, a minimum OBS Studio version of 27.0.0, and 64-bit Windows, macOS, and Linux support. The listed styles include frequency-spectrum graphs (curves, bars, stepped bars, and circular variants), peak and RMS meters, and waveform displays. Check the listing for current compatibility and installation instructions before updating.

Spectralizer is an older alternative, not the recommended starting point. Its resource listing identifies version 1.3.4, last updated January 28, 2021, Windows and Linux support, and a minimum OBS version of 24.0.0. Its author says it has been deprecated in favor of Waveform, which offers more options; the listing does not name macOS support.

- Check compatibility. Confirm that your OBS version meets Waveform’s listed minimum and that your operating system is among its supported platforms.
- Install the plugin. Follow the download and installation instructions on the Waveform resource page. Installation details can vary by operating system, so use the instructions there rather than assuming a file path. Restart OBS if the installer or plugin instructions request it.
- Open the right scene. In OBS, select the scene used for the jazz radio broadcast. Add the plugin visualizer as a source using the source controls in the Sources panel; the exact source label may depend on the plugin version.
- Choose the program audio. Set the visualizer to use the OBS audio source carrying the jazz stream. If the music is played by a Media Source or another dedicated source, select that source where the plugin allows it. Do not choose a microphone or unrelated desktop audio unless that is genuinely part of the broadcast.
- Pick a style and arrange it. Choose a spectrum, waveform, or meter style, then resize and position it over the background art. Keep channel artwork and any essential text visible; check the composition at the resolution viewers will receive.
- Verify the signal. Play the actual program audio and watch the OBS mixer and visualizer. Confirm the mixer shows the music and that the visualization responds to it, not to another sound source. Preview the scene long enough to notice whether the graphic is obscured or visually distracting.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live and test
- In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube. In OBS, open the stream settings and enter them, or choose YouTube directly if your OBS version offers that integration. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access to it may be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the encoder preview in Live Control Room. Check that the intended jazz audio and visualizer both arrive at YouTube before starting the public broadcast.
- Test with conditions close to the real show: the same music source, scene, audio level, resolution, frame rate, and motion. Listen for silence or clipping, watch the graphic respond, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends testing ahead of time with audio and movement similar to the planned stream and monitoring stream health during the event. A successful preview confirms that the test signal reached YouTube; it does not establish that a 24/7 broadcast will never disconnect. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.

Set encoder quality for a stable stream
Choose quality against the upload connection you can sustain, not just the visualizer’s appearance. YouTube recommends checking upload speed and testing the actual scene. Its current encoder settings guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second recommended keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio; it recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use the current YouTube table for the codec and resolution you select rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
| Example setting | YouTube recommendation |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps video | 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265; 14 Mbps for H.264 |
| 720p at 30 fps video | 6 Mbps for AV1/H.265; 8 Mbps for H.264 |
| Stereo audio | 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps are listed among recommended advanced settings |
These are YouTube-published recommendations, not a guarantee that your connection will hold the bitrate. Leave room for network variation and test at your intended settings. OBS notes that meeting its basic system requirements does not guarantee streaming or recording performance: CPU demands vary with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. A live visualizer adds scene work, so check OBS rendering and encoding status during a representative run. Refer to YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and the OBS system requirements.

Plan for continuous operation and archiving
A visualizer changes what OBS renders; it does not supply continuous power, playback, internet access, monitoring, or recovery. A local OBS setup therefore depends on a computer that stays on, a reliable jazz playlist and audio route, sufficient upload capacity, and a plan to notice and recover from an encoder or network interruption. A test run can expose problems, but it is not a failover system or an uptime guarantee.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not promise a single uninterrupted archive for a continuous broadcast lasting longer than 12 hours. Plan live continuity and archive needs separately, and check YouTube’s current live policies and dashboard before relying on an archive: YouTube’s encoder guidance.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want to keep an uploaded jazz program looping without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud option. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and it does not reproduce an OBS scene with the Waveform plugin; use it when a cloud-looped video is suitable rather than when the visualizer itself must run in OBS.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs from the cloud.
- Each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot without re-encoding or quality tiers.
- It attempts automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required (one free day per account).
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. Start your free day on StreamNeo.

Troubleshoot common problems
- The visualizer is static. Check that the selected source is the one carrying the jazz program, that it is playing, and that its level moves in OBS’s audio mixer. Re-select the source if the visualizer is listening to a silent or unrelated input.
- The visualizer reacts to the wrong sound. Change its input to the dedicated music source where supported; avoid using a microphone or desktop audio that captures unrelated sound.
- The plugin does not appear in OBS. Recheck the plugin’s OS and OBS minimum-version requirements, confirm the installation followed the current resource instructions, and restart OBS if instructed. Consult the resource page for version-specific installation help.
- YouTube does not show a preview. Confirm OBS is streaming, the stream URL and key match the active YouTube stream, and YouTube’s Live Control Room is open to that stream. Check the dashboard’s messages and stream health before going live.
- The stream drops frames or becomes unstable. Test a lower sustainable bitrate or less demanding resolution/frame rate, verify upload capacity, and inspect OBS rendering/encoding status. The plugin is only one component; network and encoder load also matter.
- The archive is not one full-day video. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours; do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived as one uninterrupted file.
