To add a spectrum visualizer to a 24/7 music livestream in OBS Studio, install a compatible audio-visualizer source, point it at the OBS audio source carrying your music, then layer and test it in your scene. The visualizer only handles the picture: continuous playback, a working stream connection and permission to use the music are separate requirements.
Choose a visualizer that can hear your music
One current option documented by the OBS Project forum is Audio Waves Visualizer. It creates a transparent video source that can render waves or bars from a selected OBS audio source, making it suitable for compositing over a background. Its project listing states a minimum OBS Studio version of 32.0.2 and support for Windows, macOS and Linux; check the listing and installation instructions before installing because plugin compatibility can change. The key choice is not just the visual style. The plugin must listen to the same OBS source that carries the program music. If it listens to a silent source, microphone or unrelated desktop audio, its display will not represent the music in your stream.
Install and add the visualizer in OBS
- Check compatibility. Confirm your OBS Studio version and operating system meet the visualizer’s current requirements. The listing currently specifies OBS Studio 32.0.2 or later and Windows, macOS and Linux support.
- Install using the project’s current instructions. Restart OBS if the installation instructions require it. Plugin installation details can vary by operating system and release, so use the project’s own steps rather than copying paths from an older guide.
- Add its source. In your music scene, add the Audio Waves Visualizer source using the plugin’s source entry, then select the OBS audio source that carries the music.
- Choose and position the effect. Select a bar or wave style, set the source’s size and position, and place it over your background. Put branding or titles above it in the scene’s source order if they should remain visible.
- Check the audio meters while music plays. The selected OBS source should show activity. Keep the routing simple enough that you can identify which source is feeding the visualizer and which audio is included in the stream mix.
The project repository documents level and spectrum data from a selected active OBS source, including 64 spectrum bands. It does not establish how the plugin performs on every computer or during extended runs; check compatibility and observe your own setup before relying on it unattended.

Make the music playlist loop
If you need OBS itself to play a playlist, its VLC Video source supports multiple media items as well as loop and shuffle options. VLC must be installed for the source to appear. OBS specifies using 64-bit VLC with 64-bit OBS. See OBS media sources.
- Install the VLC edition that matches your OBS architecture; for 64-bit OBS, use 64-bit VLC.
- Add a VLC Video source to the scene and configure the media playlist using the source’s properties.
- Enable loop if you want playback to restart at the end of the playlist. Enable shuffle only if you want the order to vary.
- Play the playlist and verify that the visualizer reacts to its audio and that transitions behave as expected.
Looping covers media playback, not the whole 24/7 chain. It does not keep the computer powered, recover OBS after a crash, restore a failed internet connection or guarantee that YouTube remains connected. Those parts depend on the machine, operating system, network, encoder and destination stream.

Test the complete scene before leaving it running
- Confirm the visualizer responds to the music source, not a microphone or unrelated audio.
- Check that the intended music is present in the stream mix and that the visual display is legible at your output resolution.
- Watch playlist transitions, including the end-to-start loop, rather than checking only one track.
- Observe a representative run and verify the full playback and streaming path. The documented loop and plugin capabilities do not establish guaranteed long-duration reliability, automatic restart recovery or remote monitoring.

Spectralizer and Waveform
The OBS resource page for Spectralizer describes visualizations of OBS audio sources, but its author marks it deprecated in favor of Waveform. Treat it as a legacy option and check current maintenance and compatibility before choosing it.

Tuna is a separate OBS plugin for metadata and cover-art overlays. Its documentation lists VLC Video and other player integrations and explains that it can write image and text files used as OBS sources. It adds “now playing” information; it does not create the spectrum display.

External visuals with SYQEL
SYQEL’s OBS documentation describes routing reactive visuals into OBS through Spout on Windows or Mac Screen Share on macOS. This approach adds a separate application and a capture-source dependency, so it may suit elaborate visuals better than a single in-OBS source. The vendor documentation does not provide independent performance comparisons; check the integration and compatibility on your own system.
Clear music rights before streaming
A visualizer does not grant permission to use the music. YouTube says: “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” It may interrupt or terminate a stream if third-party content remains. Even licensed music can be interrupted if the channel has not been allowlisted by the rights owner through Content ID.
