What You Need Before You Start
Before you change Control Center, make sure the pieces are in place.
- iPhone running iOS 16 or later (Control Center support for shortcuts is commonly available in modern iOS 16/17 builds).
- The Shortcuts app installed (it’s usually preinstalled). You’ll use it to create or select the Siri Shortcut.
- A shortcut you already built (or you’re willing to build) that performs the action you want.
- Permissions for any sensitive steps (Location, Bluetooth, Notifications, Contacts, Photos, etc.). Shortcuts will request these when first run.
If you’re not sure which iOS version you have: open Settings > General > About > iOS Version.

Create (or Pick) the Siri Shortcut
You can add a Control Center shortcut only for an existing shortcut. If you already have one you love, you can skip the creation steps.
Create a new shortcut in Shortcuts
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- Tap + New Shortcut.
- Give it a clear name (for example, Turn on Desk Light).
- Tap Add Action and build your workflow step-by-step.
- When done, tap Done to save.
For best results, test it immediately: tap the shortcut’s play button and confirm it works end-to-end.
Make sure it’s actually a Siri Shortcut
In Shortcuts, a “Siri Shortcut” typically means the shortcut can be run via voice/suggestions. For Control Center usage, you just need the shortcut saved and available to assign to the control.
Recommended Free Tools
If your shortcut relies on specific devices or services, run it once so iOS learns permissions and your setup is ready.
Add the Siri Shortcut Control to Control Center
Control Center can include a shortcuts control. Once added, you can map it to the specific shortcut you want.
iPhone setup path in Settings
- Open Settings.
- Tap Control Center.
- Find More Controls.
- Look for a control named Shortcuts (or similarly labeled). Tap + to add it.
- Verify it now appears under Included Controls.
If you don’t see a Shortcuts control in More Controls, double-check your iOS version and ensure your iPhone is up to date.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
Choose which shortcut the control runs
The exact gesture can vary slightly by iOS build, but the workflow is consistent: you select a specific shortcut for the Control Center control.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems- Open Control Center (on iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the top-right corner; on Touch ID iPhones, swipe up from the bottom).
- Find the Shortcuts control you added.
- Long-press the shortcut control (or tap it, depending on your iOS version) to open its configuration.
- Select the shortcut you want to run (from your saved shortcuts list).
- Confirm the selection.
Test it right away: return to Control Center and run the control. If it runs the wrong action, repeat the assignment step and pick the correct shortcut.
Use It From Control Center
After assignment, running your Siri Shortcut from Control Center is quick and repeatable.
Triggering the shortcut
- Open Control Center.
- Tap (or press) the Shortcuts control.
- Watch for any prompts (for example, confirmations or permission dialogs).
- Confirm the shortcut results (lights, messages, toggles, files, etc.).
Some shortcuts finish instantly; others may take a few seconds depending on network calls or integrations.
How it behaves with permissions and location
Shortcuts that use location, Bluetooth, or sensitive data require permissions. If you haven’t run the shortcut before, iOS may ask for access the first time you trigger it.
- If you see a permission prompt, choose the option that matches your desired behavior (for example, While Using the App vs Always).
- If your shortcut involves smart home devices (HomeKit), make sure you’re signed into the right home and the devices respond.
- If the shortcut uses notifications, your focus mode or notification settings can change outcomes.
Troubleshooting
If the Control Center shortcut doesn’t behave like you expect, the fix is usually quick once you narrow down the cause.

The Shortcuts control doesn’t show up
- Check iOS version: open Settings > General > About and confirm you’re on iOS 16+.
- Look carefully in More Controls: the control may appear under a slightly different label than you expect.
- Restart: reboot your iPhone, then re-check Settings > Control Center.
- Update iOS: if you’re on an older iOS build, update to the latest version available in Settings > General > Software Update.
If none of these help, it usually indicates your iOS build doesn’t offer the Shortcuts Control Center control. In that case, use one of the alternatives in the next section.
The shortcut runs the wrong action
This happens when the Control Center control is assigned to a different shortcut than you intended.
- Open Control Center and long-press (or open) the Shortcuts control.
- Re-select the correct shortcut from the list.
- Test again immediately. If it changes back later, there may be a conflicts issue with how the control is being configured.
Also verify you didn’t rename or rebuild the shortcut. If you modified the shortcut’s internal actions, it should still run the same saved entry—but a quick re-test helps.
The shortcut fails or asks for permissions repeatedly
Most failures are permission-related, missing app access, or an external dependency that isn’t reachable.
- Check the shortcut steps: open the shortcut in Shortcuts and confirm each action can run without missing inputs.
- Re-run from Shortcuts app: tap the shortcut’s play button inside Shortcuts to see the exact error or prompt.
- Review permissions: open Settings > Privacy & Security and confirm apps/services used by the shortcut are allowed.
- Network assumptions: shortcuts that fetch data can fail when Wi‑Fi/cellular is unavailable or restricted.
If your shortcut depends on a specific home hub, account, or device, confirm it’s online before testing from Control Center.
Control Center changes don’t stick
If you assign a shortcut, then it reverts or doesn’t run, try this sequence:

- Assign the shortcut again from Control Center.
- Close Control Center and wait 10–20 seconds.
- Open Control Center again and run the shortcut once.
- If it still fails, restart the iPhone and re-check Included Controls.
After a reboot, your configuration should remain stable.

- Building a shortcut that needs missing input: if your shortcut expects a file, contact, or selection you didn’t provide, Control Center runs may fail.
- Testing only once: trigger it at least twice from Control Center to confirm permissions and state handling.
- Forgetting Focus or notification settings: some shortcuts are designed to deliver alerts, and Focus can alter results.
- Overcomplicating the workflow: shorter shortcuts are more reliable as one-tap Control Center actions.
Comparisons and Alternatives
Control Center is the fastest method when you want “one tap, always.” If your iOS build doesn’t show the Shortcuts control, these alternatives work immediately.
Run the shortcut via the Shortcuts app
Open Shortcuts, find your shortcut, and tap the play button. It’s not as fast as Control Center, but it’s reliable and good for troubleshooting.
- Open Shortcuts.
- Tap your shortcut.
- Verify it runs without prompts.
Add a shortcut to the Home Screen
You can create a Home Screen icon for quick launching. This doesn’t use Control Center, but it keeps the tap count low.
- Open Shortcuts.
- Open your shortcut.
- Tap Share (square with arrow).
- Select Add to Home Screen.
- Confirm the name and icon, then tap Add.
Use a widget instead
Widgets can show quick access without opening apps. Availability depends on your iOS version and widget choices.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Long-press the Home Screen.
- Tap + in the corner to add a widget.
- Search for Shortcuts widgets.
- Select the widget size and add it.
FAQs
Can I add multiple Siri Shortcuts to Control Center?
Typically, you add one Shortcuts control and assign it to a single shortcut. If your iOS version supports multiple shortcut controls, you can repeat the add process, but most setups are one control per mapping.

Do I need to enable Siri for voice control?
For Control Center execution, you generally don’t need to say anything to Siri. However, if you want voice triggers or Siri suggestions for that shortcut, you’ll need Siri enabled in Settings.
Why does my shortcut run fine in Shortcuts but not from Control Center?
That mismatch usually comes from missing permissions, different context (like location state), or reliance on user selections. Test inside Shortcuts to see prompts, then re-run from Control Center once permissions are granted.
Will iOS suggestions or updates change my Control Center shortcut?
Usually your Control Center assignment stays intact. If you notice it changes, re-assign the shortcut from Control Center and confirm iOS updates didn’t affect the control you added.
Does this work on iPad too?
Some Control Center features are iPhone-specific, but iPad also supports Shortcuts and widgets. The exact Control Center configuration steps can differ based on iPad model and iPadOS version.
Bottom Line
To add a Siri Shortcut to your iPhone Control Center, create or choose your saved shortcut in the Shortcuts app, add the Shortcuts control under Settings > Control Center, then assign the control to the exact shortcut you want to run.
Once it’s working, Control Center becomes your fastest “tap-and-go” trigger—ideal for repeat actions like starting a routine, sending a message template, or toggling devices.
