To show a track title over a YouTube meditation livestream, add a text or browser overlay to the scene in OBS Studio. For occasional track changes, a Text source is the simplest option; for automatic updates, use an overlay or integration that can read metadata from the playback app. The title needs to be part of the composed video, not just the YouTube broadcast listing.
Add a track title manually in OBS
- Select the meditation scene. In OBS Studio, choose the scene containing the meditation visual and music.
- Add a Text source. In the Sources dock, select + and add a Text source. OBS Text sources can display customizable text and can also read text from a file. OBS sources guide
- Enter the label. Use a short format such as “Now playing: [track title] — [artist]”. Include only details you know from the music source.
- Place it on the picture. Position and resize the text in the preview. Keep the Text source above the visual or background source in the Sources list; higher sources appear over lower ones. OBS sources guide
- Change it with the music. Update the text when the track changes. For a long stream, plan who will make these updates and how they will know when a new track starts.
- Preview before going live. Make a short recording or run an appropriate private test to check legibility and timing. OBS recommends testing settings before starting a first stream. OBS Quick Start Guide
For a calm meditation scene, use a concise label with enough contrast to remain readable without drawing attention away from the visual. This is a layout recommendation, not a measured accessibility result.

Make the title update automatically
Automation needs two things: a source that knows which track is playing, and a visible layer that renders that information into the scene. The player or playlist must expose usable track metadata; an overlay cannot display information it does not receive.

Use a browser overlay
Add a Browser source to the scene and configure it to load the overlay’s webpage or URL. OBS Browser sources support viewport dimensions and custom CSS settings. Use a text-file integration
An integration can write the current track information to a text file, which an OBS Text source reads. This can keep the visible label synchronized without manually editing the source, but depends on the integration receiving accurate track changes and updating the file reliably. OBS sources guide
Check third-party overlay compatibility
The OBS forum resource Music on Stream describes a browser-based current-song overlay. Its listing says it supports YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, SoundCloud, Deezer, Pretzel, and Epidemic Sound, and can use YouTube chapters or video-description playlists as title inputs. The listing reports its last update as September 18, 2025. These are the resource author’s claims, not independently verified compatibility; check your specific player, overlay version, and update behavior before using it live.

- Metadata integration: can update automatically if it receives track changes from your player, but adds setup and failure points.
- Browser overlay: convenient when compatible, but test its source, player support, and rendering in the actual scene.
Set up playlist playback without assuming metadata will follow
OBS Media Source supports listed audio and video formats. OBS also documents a VLC Video source for playlist playback; VLC must be installed, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. Playlist playback does not guarantee that every entry exposes its title to an overlay. OBS Media Sources

An OBS Text or Browser source becomes part of the outgoing scene composition. The title entered for a YouTube broadcast is listing metadata, not an overlay over the meditation picture. If viewers should see each track name on the video itself, render it in the scene using an OBS source or an equivalent overlay. This distinction follows from how OBS composes sources; it is not a separate YouTube feature.

Check music rights before streaming
A track label or attribution is not permission to use the music. YouTube says its live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If content is identified, YouTube may show a placeholder image and warn the creator; if it remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. YouTube also says that even a creator who has licensed third-party content may need the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist, or the stream can still be interrupted. Troubleshoot a missing or stale track label
- The label is hidden: move the Text or Browser source above the visual in the Sources list, then check its position and size in the preview.
- The title never changes: a manual Text source does not update itself. For an automated label, confirm the integration receives metadata from the exact player and is updating its text file or overlay.
- The overlay shows the wrong or incomplete track: check what metadata the playback app supplies and whether the overlay supports that app and playlist method. Do not assume playlist playback alone provides track titles.
- The browser overlay is blank or mis-sized: check its URL and Browser source viewport dimensions, then preview it in the full scene. OBS Browser sources provide viewport and custom CSS settings.
- The stream is interrupted after music is detected: review the music rights and YouTube’s live-stream guidance. Attribution in the overlay does not clear a rights match; a licensed track may still require the rights owner to allowlist your channel.
