Add Hindi text in OBS by adding a built-in Text source, typing your Devanagari copy, choosing a font installed on the streaming computer that displays it correctly, and positioning the source in the preview. For custom styling, use a Browser Source instead. Test the overlay in OBS and YouTube Live Control Room before starting the broadcast.
Choose the right OBS source for your Hindi overlay

OBS describes its Text sources as a way to add simple text to a stream or recording layout. You do not inherently need a third-party overlay service. The official source guide identifies Text (GDI+) for Windows and Text (Freetype 2) for macOS and Linux; its listed default fonts, including Arial, Helvetica, and Sans Serif, are not a guarantee of Hindi rendering on every computer. Add Hindi text with an OBS Text source
- In OBS, select the scene that should contain the overlay. In the Sources dock, click + and add the appropriate Text source for your operating system.
- Give the source a recognizable name, then enter your Hindi wording in its Text field.
- Choose a font available on that computer and inspect the rendered text in the OBS preview. Confirm that every Devanagari character and mark appears correctly, rather than as missing glyphs or boxes. If it does not, try another installed font that supports the characters.
- Drag the text into position in the preview and resize it as needed. Check that it remains legible against the video and does not cover important content.
- If the text is hidden, check the order in the Sources list. Sources higher in the list appear above sources beneath them; move the text above the video or other elements it should cover.
- For text maintained in a separate file, open the Text source properties and enable Read from file. Change the file and verify the resulting display in OBS before depending on it during a long stream.

Use a Browser Source for a designed overlay
- Create or open the overlay page you want OBS to display. A local HTML page is one option; a third-party overlay provider is not required by OBS.
- In the OBS Sources dock, click + and add a Browser Source.
- Set the source to the overlay’s URL or local file, then set its width and height to the intended output dimensions.
- Position and layer the Browser Source in the scene, then inspect the result in the preview at stream size.
OBS’s Browser Source guide describes the embedded browser, URL or local-file options, and viewport dimensions. Check that the page or file loads as expected before broadcasting.

Check the overlay and stream before going live
- Look for complete Hindi characters, readable size, appropriate contrast, and correct line wrapping in the OBS preview.
- Confirm that the overlay is in the intended scene and above the video sources it should cover.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and check its preview before starting the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing the stream and monitoring its audio and video quality; consult its current live streaming help and encoder guidance.
- Verify your channel is eligible to livestream. YouTube’s current help says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days; platform requirements can change, so confirm them in YouTube Help.
- Use only video, music, and other material you have rights to stream. A Hindi text overlay does not grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted content. Review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules, including its channel monetization policies on reused content.
What 24/7 operation depends on
With OBS, the stream runs from the computer and connection where OBS is operating. A continuous broadcast therefore depends on that setup and on YouTube accepting the stream. YouTube’s encoder and live-stream guidance covers setup and monitoring, but does not establish a universal uptime guarantee or maximum duration for this particular workflow. Do not assume a test or a correctly rendered overlay guarantees uninterrupted operation.
Troubleshooting Hindi text in OBS
- Hindi appears as boxes or missing marks: choose a different font installed on the streaming computer that displays Devanagari, then inspect the full text again in the preview. OBS’s documentation allows font selection but does not certify a particular Hindi font or system configuration.
- Text is behind the video: move the Text source higher in the Sources list so it appears above the video source.
- Text is clipped or hard to read: resize and reposition it in the preview, and check line breaks and contrast against the moving background.
- File-backed wording does not update as expected: confirm Read from file is enabled and the source points to the intended file. Test edits in your OBS setup; the documentation does not promise a universal encoding or refresh interval.
- Browser overlay is blank or the wrong size: check the URL or local-file selection, make sure the page or file is available, and set the Browser Source width and height to the intended output dimensions.
- YouTube preview or stream fails: check channel livestream eligibility, OBS output, and the Live Control Room preview. Follow YouTube’s current encoder guidance and monitor stream quality rather than assuming the overlay itself is the cause.
