To add an eligible debit card, open Samsung Wallet, tap the plus icon, choose Payment cards, and scan or enter the card details. Then follow the prompts, including any verification required by your card issuer. If your local app offers it, you may also be able to tap an NFC-enabled card on the phone. This option is documented by Samsung Canada, but should not be assumed to appear in every region or on every device.

Enter any other requested information, tap Next, and accept the issuer’s terms. Complete any additional prompts, including issuer verification if requested.
The app’s labels or sequence may differ in your country. Follow the options shown in your local Samsung Wallet app. Enrollment also requires an active internet connection, through Wi-Fi or mobile data.

Can I add my debit card by scanning it?
Yes. Samsung Canada says Wallet can use the phone camera to scan a payment card. Check the details the app reads before continuing; if scanning is unavailable or does not capture them accurately, use manual entry if offered. NFC card tapping is another option only where the local app provides it. Whichever method you use, the issuer still has to support the exact card and approve any required verification.
Why can’t I add my debit card to Samsung Wallet?
A bank’s participation does not guarantee that every card it issues is eligible. Samsung’s US FAQ says some cards from participating banks are unsupported and identifies ATM-only cards as an example of a card that cannot be added. A familiar payment-network logo, or another working card from the same bank, is not proof that this particular debit card will work. The issuer is the best source for a definitive answer about your card product and account. See Samsung’s US Samsung Wallet FAQ for its eligibility and enrollment guidance.
Separate eligibility from verification
Some issuers require additional authentication before approving a card for Samsung Wallet. If the app asks you to verify, follow its instructions; the process may involve the issuer. If the card is rejected or verification does not arrive, contact the bank and ask whether your specific card is supported and whether authentication is pending. Samsung’s guidance does not establish a universal list of eligible cards or banks.

Check the connection
An active internet connection is needed while adding a card. Samsung says Wi-Fi or mobile data can provide it. If connectivity drops during enrollment, Wallet may be unable to verify the card; in some cases, the card data is discarded and you need to start again. Samsung also cautions that adding a card while abroad may be difficult without an installed SIM and active mobile connection. That is a support caveat, not a rule that applies to every traveler or market.

Restore a stable Wi-Fi or mobile-data connection and retry if the attempt was interrupted.

Ask the issuer whether the exact card is eligible and whether it needs to complete or resend authentication.

If the card is eligible and the issuer recommends another attempt, remove the incomplete or existing entry and add the card again.
Samsung’s troubleshooting page describes manual card entry and following registration instructions that may involve the bank’s app or website. That guidance appears in a page about missing or incorrect transaction information, so it should not be treated as a universal fix for every enrollment error. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance explains that process in its stated context.
What changes after the card is added?
If your bank replaces the card
Samsung says to remove the original payment card from Wallet and add the replacement as a new card. Do not assume the old Wallet entry updates automatically.

If a payment terminal asks debit or credit
Choose the transaction type appropriate for the physical card. Samsung says that if selecting debit causes an issue, you can try again and select credit regardless of the card type. This terminal prompt is separate from enrollment: it does not indicate whether the card was successfully added to Wallet.
Internet after enrollment
The cited Samsung US FAQ establishes internet access as a requirement for adding a card. It does not establish that an internet connection is required for every later in-store payment, so do not treat the enrollment requirement as a general rule for transactions.
