Use two separate pieces: schedule a live event in YouTube Studio to create a shareable watch page and reminder option, then add the visible countdown to the video your encoder sends. Scheduling alone does not put a timer on screen. For a 24/7 lofi feed, decide whether the countdown is a one-time opening or a recurring segment, because YouTube’s event page and your on-video graphics are managed separately.
What YouTube scheduling does—and what it does not do
YouTube Studio scheduling creates an upcoming live watch page that you can share, and viewers can choose to get reminders. YouTube Help describes this as a way to promote a stream; it does not say that scheduling adds a countdown graphic to the outgoing video. The visible timer must be part of the video production: compose it with your encoder or include it in a pre-rendered video source. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

The encoder sends the live audio and video to YouTube using the Live server URL and stream key. Treat the watch page and the encoded picture as separate jobs: a scheduled event can be ready while the countdown is missing from the video, or the video can contain a timer even if you have not made a scheduled event page.
Set up the scheduled watch page and connect your encoder
- Create the event: In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule Stream. Create a new stream or reuse settings. Interface labels can change, so follow the current Live Control Room wording if yours differs.
- Set up the encoder destination: Select YouTube in the encoder if it offers a YouTube destination. Otherwise copy the Live server URL from YouTube into the encoder’s server field, then paste the stream key into its stream-key field. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send video to your channel.
- Prepare the video composition: Add the countdown and any schedule text in the encoder’s scene/composition, or render them into the source video before sending it. The cited YouTube guidance covers encoder streaming, not a particular overlay plugin, countdown widget, or scheduling product.
- Check both outputs: Confirm the scheduled watch page in Studio, then inspect the encoder preview to verify that the timer and schedule are actually visible and legible. For a scheduled encoder stream, YouTube’s documented workflow includes waiting for the preview before going live.
Choose how the countdown appears in the lofi program
One-time countdown before the radio starts
Make the countdown the opening scene or clip, then have the production switch to the regular lofi loop when it reaches zero. With an encoder, this means arranging the countdown and radio sources in the encoder’s production; with a pre-rendered source, it means placing the countdown at the start of the rendered video. Verify the transition in the preview. Do not assume the scheduled event page will switch the video image for you.

Countdowns or schedule cards that recur
If the countdown should return at particular hours, define those times in the production schedule and build the corresponding scenes or clips into the feed. The schedule on the YouTube watch page is not a controller for recurring graphics in a continuous video. Include the time zone in any on-screen schedule so viewers can interpret the advertised hours.
Keep schedule text readable
Use short labels, strong contrast, and enough screen space that the lofi artwork remains secondary to the information. Preview the composition at the same output resolution you intend to stream; text that looks clear in an editing window may be too small in the actual player. These are production checks, not special YouTube countdown settings.

Plan the 24/7 feed as a continuous broadcast or separate events
A single always-running feed and a calendar of separate live events are different broadcast plans. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation distinguishes a stream resource, which carries the video, from a broadcast resource, which represents the viewer-facing event. The API describes reusing one stream resource for recurring scheduled broadcasts; in that pattern, only one event is live at a time. It also describes a separate event broadcast associated with a stream while a continuous broadcast remains live. These are API-level patterns, not guarantees that a Studio control will automatically create your overlays or every desired transition. See YouTube Live Streaming API: Understanding broadcasts and streams.

The API reference says that if a broadcast’s snippet.scheduledEndTime is omitted, it is treated as though the broadcast continues indefinitely. It also documents auto-start and auto-stop settings. Those are API behaviors; do not assume they appear as equivalent one-click options in every Studio workflow. LiveBroadcasts API reference.

Protect continuity and plan for archives
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise that a single uninterrupted stream longer than 12 hours will be available as one automatic replay. If keeping replays matters, plan a deliberate shorter-event or archive workflow and verify the current Studio options rather than relying on one 24/7 broadcast to produce a complete archive.
Choose where the stream runs
| Approach | Useful when | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|
| Local encoder with an overlay | You already produce the lofi loop on a computer or hardware encoder and want direct control of timer placement and appearance. | The originating setup must remain connected and working. You are responsible for composing the graphic and timing scene or clip changes. |
| StreamNeo cloud service | You want an uploaded-video YouTube feed to keep running from the cloud rather than depend on a computer at home. | It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed. Its documented service is for YouTube; check the service and plan details for your use case. |
StreamNeo is #1 for a cloud-hosted way to keep a YouTube stream running: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a first day free. The countdown itself still needs to be part of the video you upload; do not treat YouTube scheduling or a cloud loop as an automatic graphics editor.

Troubleshoot a missing timer, event page, or continuous feed
- The watch page exists, but there is no countdown in the player: Scheduling creates the event page; it does not add timer pixels to the stream. Put the graphic in the encoder composition or render it into the video source.
- The countdown is visible in the preview but not at the intended time: Check the scene or clip order and its timing in your production setup. YouTube scheduling does not control those transitions.
- YouTube is not receiving the encoder video: Recheck that the encoder is pointed at YouTube’s Live server URL and that you pasted the correct stream key. Keep the key private and replace it in the encoder if it has been exposed.
- The scheduled stream is not ready to start: Confirm the correct scheduled event is selected in Studio and wait for the encoder preview before going live, following YouTube’s scheduled-stream workflow.
- You expect a complete replay of a day-long feed: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a guaranteed single archive for a longer uninterrupted broadcast. Use a verified shorter-event or separate archive plan if replay availability matters.
