Use an OBS Browser Source to place a clock and weather panel over your nature footage. The source can load a hosted overlay URL or a local HTML file; set its viewport size, put it above the footage in the Sources list, and check the time zone, location, and units before streaming. A 24/7 setup also needs a plan for the overlay’s dependencies: weather data may rely on an internet connection and an external API, even when the page itself is stored locally.
Choose how to supply the overlay
OBS Project describes Browser Source as “one of the most versatile sources available in OBS.” It can display a web page from a URL or a local file, which makes it suitable for both hosted widgets and custom HTML overlays. See the OBS Browser Source guide.

- Open the nature scene. In the Scenes dock, select the scene containing the footage you want to stream.
- Add a Browser Source. In the Sources dock, select the add button, choose Browser, and create a new source. OBS’s Sources Guide explains that sources higher in the list appear above lower ones.
- Choose the page. For a hosted widget, enter its URL in the source properties. For a local clock or weather page, enable the local-file option and select the HTML file. A local page does not make API-powered weather data local: it still needs a working connection to its data provider.
- Set the viewport. Enter a width and height suited to the overlay’s intended canvas or bounding area. OBS’s Browser Source default viewport is 800 by 600 pixels; do not assume this matches your video canvas. Resize or crop only as the design requires.
- Layer and position it. Put the Browser Source above the nature footage in the Sources list, then position it over an uncluttered part of the preview. Keep it clear of important scenery and leave comfortable padding from the frame edge.
- Check the display before going live. Confirm the clock’s time zone and 12- or 24-hour format, then verify the weather location and temperature units. Keep text legible against changing footage with a high-contrast treatment and, if needed, a restrained background plate or opacity.
OBS also offers a native Text Source, but the official sources documentation does not establish that ordinary text automatically updates as a live clock. Use a clock page or another implementation that actually updates the displayed time rather than assuming static text will do so.

Configure weather data carefully
Weather overlays do not all work the same way. One community widget example uses a local HTML file, an OpenWeatherMap API key, a city, and a units setting; it documents time-only, temperature-only, and combined display modes. Another sample uses WeatherAPI and describes refreshing every 10 minutes. Those are implementation examples, not guarantees about current API quotas, free tiers, or service terms. Review the provider’s current terms and limits before leaving an API-dependent widget running continuously.
A plugin-based alternative can fetch OpenWeather data and render a custom HTML, CSS, or JavaScript theme through Browser Source, according to a third-party OBS forum listing. Before relying on a plugin for a continuous broadcast, check whether it is maintained, works with your OBS version, and requests permissions you are comfortable granting.

Keep the overlay running on a continuous stream
In the Browser Source properties, OBS provides controls to refresh the source cache and to refresh it when a scene becomes active. It also offers Shutdown source when not visible, which unloads the page while it is hidden. If the overlay must keep running in the active nature scene, leave it visible and avoid shutting it down while hidden. OBS documents these controls in its Browser Source guide.
Test the chosen page after an OBS restart and after a network interruption. A hosted page depends on its host being available. A local HTML file avoids relying on a remote page host, but its weather requests still rely on the network and API provider. If weather stops loading, a clock-only display or static label can serve as a simpler fallback while you investigate.

Common problems and fixes
- The overlay is missing or behind the footage: Check that the Browser Source is enabled and positioned above the video source in the Sources list.
- The panel is clipped or the wrong size: Compare the Browser Source width and height with the overlay’s designed canvas, then adjust the viewport or crop to fit.
- The clock shows the wrong time or format: Recheck the widget’s time-zone and 12/24-hour settings.
- Weather is blank or stale: Check the location, units, API key, network access, and the provider’s current service limits. If the page is local, remember that its weather request still needs external data access.
- The page reloads or disappears when switching scenes: Review the cache refresh and scene-activation settings, and check whether Shutdown source when not visible is unloading it.
