Does the Galaxy S23 Ultra support eSIM?
Samsung’s US Galaxy S23 Ultra specification sheet lists the SIM type as Nano / eSIM (Samsung US specifications). That does not guarantee eSIM service on every S23 Ultra: carrier support, country, device variant, and software affect availability. Samsung notes that some carriers may not support a Galaxy device’s eSIM capabilities (Samsung US support).

An eSIM profile is the carrier’s digital SIM for your line. Adding the profile to the phone and obtaining or activating a carrier plan are related but distinct steps: the carrier must support the device and provision the plan for your account.
What to check before activation
- Confirm eligibility with your carrier. Ask whether eSIM is available for your account, country, plan, and exact S23 Ultra variant, and whether the carrier has assigned a plan.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data. The phone needs an internet connection to download the profile.
- Get the carrier’s activation method. Depending on its process, the carrier may assign the plan automatically, give you a QR code, or provide a manual activation code. Use only credentials issued for your line.
- For an assigned plan, have your EID ready if requested. Samsung UK says the EID may be printed on the phone’s box or found at Settings > About phone > Status (Samsung UK eSIM guide).
Add the eSIM from Settings
Samsung’s S23-series manual gives this menu path: Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM (S23-series user manual, English EU revision dated April 17, 2024). Some software versions or regions may label the screen SIM card manager, or show Add mobile plan. Follow the labels on your phone and the carrier’s prompts.

- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections > SIM manager (or SIM card manager).
- Tap Add eSIM or Add mobile plan.
- Choose the activation method the carrier supports:
- Carrier-assigned plan: Select the option to add a mobile plan and follow the prompts to download the profile.
- QR code: Choose the QR-code scan option and scan the code supplied by the carrier.
- Manual activation: Choose the activation-code option and enter the details supplied by the carrier.
- Complete the on-screen instructions. Some carrier or device flows may require a restart before the downloaded profile takes effect; restart if prompted.
- Return to SIM manager and enable the new line. Set your preferred lines for calls, texts, and mobile data.
Choose which SIM handles calls, texts, and data
You can use an eSIM alongside a physical SIM to have another number or carrier, where supported by your model, market, and plan. In SIM manager, enable or disable available lines and select preferred SIMs for calls, text messages, and mobile data. The exact options and simultaneous behavior can vary.
The S23-series manual also describes a data-switching option that can use another SIM if the preferred SIM cannot connect. Samsung warns this may incur additional charges (S23-series user manual). Check your plan’s roaming and data terms before enabling it.

If Add eSIM is missing or activation fails
Start with the carrier rather than assuming the phone is defective: eSIM availability depends on the carrier and the exact device variant, and Samsung says support may not be offered by every carrier.
- Ask the carrier to confirm eSIM support for your account, country, plan, and precise phone variant.
- Confirm whether the plan has been assigned and which activation method you should use.
- If the carrier uses a QR code or manual activation code, request the correct credentials for your line.
- Check that the phone has Wi-Fi or mobile data while it downloads the profile.
- If the carrier confirms support but the option remains unavailable, contact the carrier or Samsung support with the device’s model details and software version.
Activation screens and error handling vary, so there is no single troubleshooting sequence that applies to every carrier workflow. Use the instructions provided for your plan.

Remove an eSIM from the phone
Samsung UK documents this removal path: open Settings > Connections > SIM card manager, select the eSIM plan, turn it off, and tap Remove. The menu may also offer removal of all plans (Samsung UK eSIM guide).
Removing a profile from the handset does not cancel the carrier plan or contract. Samsung states that removing plans does not affect the network-provider contract; contact the carrier to end service.
