To see tabs that are open on another device, use the same browser and sign in with the same account on every device. Turn on that browser’s open-tab sync category, then open its synced-tabs view. Firefox, Safari, and Edge keep their tab systems separate: a Firefox tab will not appear in Safari or Edge just because the devices share an owner.
The exact menu differs by browser. Firefox exposes a dedicated list on desktop and iOS, Safari places iCloud Tabs on the Start Page and tab view, and Edge documents the account and sync controls but provides less detail about the screen used to browse the remote-tab list.

These are built-in browser features. You do not need to buy a new phone, computer, accessory, physical media, or repair tool, and there is no separate tab-sync application required for the steps below. The important prerequisites are the correct account, the correct browser profile, and the relevant open-tabs setting enabled on both ends.
What you need before syncing tabs
- Use the same browser on the devices you want to connect.
- Sign in to the same browser account on each device.
- Enable the browser’s open-tabs option, not just general sign-in.
- Keep the relevant cloud service enabled: Firefox Sync, Safari in iCloud, or Edge profile Sync.
- Use the profile that actually owns the tabs. A second profile in the same browser has its own sync state.
Sync is designed for devices running the same browser. Firefox Sync connects Firefox on desktop, laptop, and mobile; Safari’s iCloud Tabs connects Apple devices using Safari; and Edge sync connects Edge profiles. None of these services imports a tab from one browser into a different browser.

Firefox: view tabs from another device
Mozilla says Firefox Sync lets you access open tabs across desktop, laptop, and mobile devices that use Firefox. Set up Sync on every Firefox installation before looking for the remote-tab list. The same Mozilla account must be active on the device that publishes the tab and the device that displays it.
Turn on Firefox Open tabs on each device
- Open Firefox and sign in to the same Mozilla account used on your other devices.
- Open the account or Sync settings and select the data types that Firefox should synchronize.
- Make sure Open tabs is selected. Signing in without selecting this category will not make currently open tabs available in the synced list.
- Repeat these checks on every desktop, laptop, phone, or tablet you want to connect.
Check the setting on both sides, not only on the device where you want to read the tab. A computer can be signed in correctly while still failing to publish its tabs if Open tabs is not selected there. Conversely, the viewing device can have Sync enabled but show nothing if the source device uses a different Mozilla account.

Find synced tabs on Firefox desktop
Firefox provides several entry points, so the label you see can depend on your Firefox version and toolbar arrangement:
- Open the Mozilla account menu and choose the area that lists tabs from other devices.
- Open the Firefox Sidebar and select the laptop-and-phone button.
- Open Firefox View from the Tools menu or the List all tabs button, then choose Tabs from other devices.
Select a listed tab to open it in the current Firefox window. The list is a launching point: opening the item creates the page in the Firefox instance you are currently using while leaving the browser ecosystem unchanged.
Firefox also documents a close action for a tab on the device where it originally opened. Use that action carefully: closing it removes the tab from its source device rather than merely hiding it from your current list. If another person is working on that device, confirm before using the close control.
Find synced tabs on Firefox for iPhone and iPad
- Open Firefox and tap the numbered tab button.
- Tap Sync at the bottom of the tab view. You can also swipe right to reach the Sync view.
- Tap a listed tab to open it on the iPhone or iPad.
If the list does not include a tab you expect, tap Sync Now. Mozilla’s iOS guidance also says to verify that Firefox is signed in to the intended Mozilla account and that Open tabs is enabled in Sync. The iOS view includes a close action for a tab on its originating device as well.

When troubleshooting iOS, perform the account and Open tabs checks on the iPhone or iPad and on the desktop or mobile device that owns the missing tab. Refreshing only the viewing screen cannot publish a tab that the source device is not synchronizing.
Safari: use iCloud Tabs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac
Safari uses your Apple Account and iCloud rather than a separate browser account. Sign in with the same Apple Account on every Apple device, enable Safari in iCloud on each one, and make sure iCloud Tabs is visible on Safari’s Start Page.
Set up Safari on iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings > [your name] > iCloud > See All.
- Turn on Safari.
- Repeat the iCloud Safari setting on the other iPhone, iPad, or Mac devices that should share tabs.
- Open Safari, enter the tab view, and create a new tab.
- Scroll down to the section listing tabs open on your other devices.
The remote list is an iCloud Tabs feature on Safari’s Start Page. If it is missing, scroll to the bottom of the Start Page, choose the customization control, and ensure iCloud Tabs is enabled. A device can have Safari turned on in iCloud while the Start Page section is hidden, so check both settings.
Apple’s iPhone guidance says that viewing Mac tabs from an iPhone or iPad also requires Safari enabled in iCloud on the Mac and two-factor authentication for the Apple Account. If the Mac is absent from the list, verify those Mac-side and account-security requirements rather than repeatedly reopening the iPhone tab view.

Find shared tabs on a Mac
- Sign in to the same Apple Account used on the iPhone or iPad.
- Enable Safari in iCloud from macOS System Settings.
- Show Safari’s Start Page. Apple documents the menu path as Bookmarks > Show Start Page.
- Look for the section containing tabs open on your other Apple devices.
Safari keeps open tabs and Tab Groups up to date across iPhone, iPad, and Mac when the required iCloud settings are active. The Start Page is the main place to inspect the other-device list on a Mac; do not confuse it with the ordinary local tab strip.
From iPhone or iPad, Apple documents opening and closing an iCloud tab from the shared list. Closing it affects the tab on the device where it was open, so avoid using the close control for a page someone else still needs. Opening a shared tab, by contrast, simply brings that page into the Safari session you are using.
Edge: enable Open tabs in profile Sync
Microsoft Edge synchronizes open tabs through the signed-in Edge profile. The official setup material confirms the account and category controls, but does not specify one universal gesture or screen for displaying the remote-tab list on every desktop and mobile version. Set up synchronization first, then use the tabs or history area provided by your installed Edge release.

Set up Edge on a desktop
- Select the profile icon in Edge.
- Choose Sign in to sync data and sign in with the account used on the other devices.
- Open Settings > Profiles > Sync.
- Turn on the Open tabs category. Review the other sync toggles if you want additional profile data shared.
- Repeat the sign-in and Open tabs check on every desktop or laptop running Edge.
After synchronization is active, look for the synced-tab or other-device tab area in your Edge build. Menu names and placement can change between desktop releases, so do not assume that a control documented for one operating system is present in another.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMake sure the profile icon shows the account you intended to use before checking the tab list. Edge can contain multiple profiles, and enabling Open tabs in one profile does not make tabs from another profile appear there.
Set up Edge on a phone or tablet
- Open the Edge app and tap the profile image.
- Choose Accounts and sign in with the same account used on the desktop or other mobile device.
- Open Settings > profile image > Sync settings > Sync.
- Enable Open tabs.
Once both endpoints are signed in and the category is enabled, use the synced-tabs view available in your version of Edge. Microsoft’s reviewed instructions establish that open tabs can sync, but they do not establish a documented remote-close workflow. Do not promise that closing a remote Edge tab is supported unless your current Edge interface and documentation explicitly provide that control.
Browser comparison at a glance
| Browser | Account and sync requirement | Where official guidance surfaces shared tabs | Important check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firefox | Mozilla account, Sync enabled, and Open tabs selected | Desktop account menu, Sidebar laptop-and-phone button, or Firefox View; iOS tab counter > Sync | Use Sync Now on iOS when the list is stale |
| Safari | Same Apple Account, Safari enabled in iCloud, and iCloud Tabs shown on the Start Page | iPhone/iPad tab view and Start Page; Mac Start Page | Viewing Mac tabs from iPhone or iPad also calls for Safari enabled on the Mac and two-factor authentication |
| Edge | Same signed-in Edge account and Open tabs enabled in profile Sync | Microsoft confirms the sync feature and settings; the reviewed guidance does not give one detailed remote-list path | Check the Open tabs toggle on every profile and device |
Firefox has the clearest named destinations for a remote list, including Firefox View and the Sidebar. Safari’s path is consistent once iCloud Tabs is shown on the Start Page. Edge’s reliable, documented part is the account and Sync setup; the display control is more release-dependent.
Fix missing or stale tabs in the right order
Work through these checks in sequence. Changing several settings at once makes it harder to identify which requirement was missing.
- Confirm the account. Compare the signed-in account name on both devices. A second Mozilla account, Apple Account, or Edge profile creates a separate sync set even when the devices belong to the same person.
- Confirm sync is enabled on both endpoints. A device that is signed in but has synchronization disabled cannot publish its open tabs.
- Confirm the open-tab category. Firefox and Edge have an explicit Open tabs toggle. Safari requires Safari to be enabled in iCloud and the iCloud Tabs section to be visible on the Start Page.
- Refresh the browser view. Close and reopen the synced-tabs panel or return to the Start Page. On Firefox for iOS, tap Sync Now rather than relying only on the list’s previous state.
- Check the source device. Make sure the tab is still open there. A tab that was closed, moved to a different browser profile, or opened in a private browsing context may not appear in the expected synced list.
- Recheck the platform-specific path. Firefox has separate desktop and iOS entry points; Safari uses the Start Page and tab view; Edge’s controls differ between desktop and mobile.
When Firefox iOS remains empty
Mozilla’s specific recommendations are to tap Sync Now, verify that Firefox is signed in to the correct Mozilla account, and confirm that Open tabs is selected. Perform all three checks on the iOS device and the device that owns the missing tab. If the account is wrong, changing only the refresh action will not show the expected tabs.
When Safari shows no other devices
Verify Safari is enabled under iCloud on every endpoint, not only on the phone where you are looking. Then show Safari’s Start Page and turn on the iCloud Tabs section. If you are trying to view Mac tabs from an iPhone or iPad, confirm the Mac’s iCloud Safari setting and the Apple Account’s two-factor authentication requirement described by Apple.

When Edge sync is enabled but the list is hard to find
Reopen the profile’s Sync settings and verify Open tabs is enabled for the exact profile currently in use. Then check the tab-management areas in the current Edge release on that device. Microsoft’s setup documentation confirms the synchronization setting but does not define a single display path or remote-close action for all versions.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What happens when you open or close a synced tab
Opening a listed tab creates or activates that page in the browser you are using; it does not convert the tab into a different browser’s tab. Firefox explicitly documents opening a listed tab and closing a tab on its source device. Apple documents the same open-and-close behavior for iCloud Tabs on iPhone and iPad. The reviewed Edge material confirms synchronization of open tabs but does not document remote closing, so treat Edge as view-and-open unless your current version clearly says otherwise.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →A close command is therefore more consequential than simply dismissing a list entry. In Firefox and Safari, it can remove the page from the device where it originated. If you only want to stop seeing an item on your current device, open it or leave the list instead of using a documented remote-close control.
Do you need to pay for anything?
No purchase is necessary to follow these instructions. Firefox Sync, Safari’s iCloud tab synchronization, and Edge profile Sync are account features built into the named browsers and operating systems. A new computer, phone, tablet, physical browser media, accessory, replacement part, repair consumable, or printed manual does not enable cross-device tabs. The practical work is limited to signing in and selecting the correct settings.
Limits to keep in mind
- Browser boundaries: Firefox, Safari, and Edge sync within their own ecosystems. Shared device ownership does not bridge those ecosystems.
- Account boundaries: Switching profiles or accounts changes which tab set you see.
- Setting boundaries: General cloud or account sign-in is not enough when the open-tabs category is disabled.
- Version boundaries: Menu labels and locations can change as browser and operating-system versions update. The steps above use the labels in current Mozilla, Apple, and Microsoft guidance.
- Close-control boundaries: Firefox and Safari document closing a tab on another device; the reviewed Edge instructions do not.
- Platform boundaries: Firefox desktop and iOS use different entry points, while Safari and Edge also separate mobile and desktop settings.
Fastest method by browser
- Firefox desktop: Sign in, enable Open tabs, then open the account menu, Sidebar, or Firefox View and select Tabs from other devices.
- Firefox iOS: Tap the numbered tab button, choose Sync, and use Sync Now if needed.
- Safari iPhone/iPad: Enable Safari in iCloud, open the tab view, start a new tab, and scroll to the other-device list.
- Safari Mac: Enable Safari in iCloud and open Safari’s Start Page through Bookmarks > Show Start Page.
- Edge: Sign in to the same profile, open the profile’s Sync settings, enable Open tabs, and then use the synced-tab area supplied by your Edge version.
Frequently asked questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Firefox tabs appear in Safari or Edge?
No. Firefox Sync, Safari iCloud Tabs, and Edge Sync connect instances of the same browser ecosystem. To share a tab, open it in the same browser on both devices and use the matching account.
Why do I see some synced data but not open tabs?
Open-tab synchronization is a separate category. In Firefox and Edge, confirm that Open tabs is selected in Sync settings. In Safari, confirm Safari is enabled in iCloud and that the iCloud Tabs section is visible on the Start Page.

Best Value
Where are Safari tabs from another device?
On iPhone or iPad, open Safari’s tab view, start a new tab, and scroll to the other-device section. On Mac, show Safari’s Start Page and look for the shared-tabs section. iCloud Tabs must be enabled on the Start Page.
Why is my Mac missing from Safari’s iPhone list?
Use the same Apple Account on both devices, enable Safari in iCloud on the Mac, and meet Apple’s stated two-factor authentication requirement for viewing Mac tabs from an iPhone or iPad.
Does Edge let me close a tab remotely?
The Microsoft setup material confirms that open tabs synchronize but does not establish a universal remote-close workflow. Do not assume that closing a remote Edge tab is supported unless your current Edge version explicitly offers that control.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Do all devices have to use the same operating system?
No, the services are designed to connect supported instances of the same browser across their ecosystems. Firefox documents desktop, laptop, and mobile access; Safari connects Apple devices; and Edge connects signed-in Edge profiles. The exact viewing path varies by platform.
Do I need a paid app or new hardware?
No. These are built-in browser and account features. Correct account sign-in and enabled sync settings matter more than purchasing a device or accessory.
The Bottom Line
Use the same browser and account on both devices, enable its open-tabs sync category, and then open that browser’s shared-tab view. Firefox offers Firefox View, the Sidebar, and an iOS Sync screen; Safari uses iCloud Tabs on the Start Page and tab view; Edge requires the profile’s Open tabs setting, while the display path varies by release. If a tab is missing, check the account first, then sync, the open-tabs category, and finally refresh the browser view.
