If you can’t reach either the email address or the phone number on an old Cash App account, the only route back in is Cash App Support. Ask them to help you authenticate the existing account. Cash App doesn’t publish a dedicated recovery procedure for this situation, and it doesn’t promise that every account can be restored. Its Terms say that if an account can’t be verified, you may be required to set up a new one.
What to do, in order
- Try the official channels first. Cash App’s US Terms of Service list four support routes: in-app chat, cash.app/help, mail, and 1-800-969-1940. The Terms call that number the only phone number available for Cash App Support.
- Say exactly what your problem is. Tell Support you want to recover an existing account and that you can’t access either the registered email or the registered phone number. That is a different case from a missing sign-in code, and saying so up front helps Support route you correctly.
- Be ready to prove who you are. The Terms say identity validation can involve further information or documentation about your identity or how the account was used. It can also involve confirming ownership of an email, mobile number or financial instrument, and checks against third-party databases or verification services.
- Follow whatever steps Support gives you. Cash App decides which checks apply. Don’t assume a particular document, form or waiting time. None is guaranteed in the published sources.
- Accept the possible outcome. The Terms say: “The first time you access your Account using a new device we may require you to authenticate your Account with additional information. If your Account cannot be verified you may be required to set up a new Account.”
Choosing a contact route
The sources don’t say that any channel is faster or has more recovery power than another. Pick by what you can reach:

- In-app chat: useful if the Cash App app is still open and signed in on a phone or tablet you own.
- cash.app/help: the official help site, usable when you can’t get into the app.
- 1-800-969-1940: the official phone line, if you’d rather talk to someone.
What information Cash App may ask for
Cash App’s Privacy Notice lists the identification details it collects for account access and verification. They include your name, email, phone number, $Cashtag, authentication credentials, address, date of birth, government ID and financial information. That is a list of information Cash App may hold, not a checklist it promises to use for recovery. It’s still worth gathering what you know before you contact Support:

- The old email address and phone number, even though you can’t use them.
- The date of birth and address you used to sign up.
- Details of linked cards or bank accounts, if you remember them.
Give truthful answers only. Don’t supply details you’re guessing at to try to pass a check.

Regaining access to the old email or number first
Support may ask you to confirm ownership of the email or number, so recovering either one can be the quickest fix. These are general steps and not Cash App procedures:
- Email: use your email provider’s own account recovery for that address. Once you’re back in the inbox, request a new sign-in code from Cash App.
- Phone number: ask your mobile carrier whether you can reactivate the number or get it moved to a new SIM.
- A different number: Cash App’s help article on phone verification says a phone number can be tied to only one Cash App account. If the number was reassigned or already used on another account, you may see verification problems, and Support is the place to sort them out.
That same article covers codes that fail to arrive: check the number, re-enter it, try again, then contact Support. It doesn’t cover losing both contact methods, so don’t expect it to solve this case.

Avoid recovery scams
People locked out of accounts attract fake “recovery agents” on social media, in text messages and in search ads. Cash App’s security page states: “Cash App will never ask you for your sign-in code or PIN.” Never give either to a caller, a text sender or a social media account, whatever they claim. Use only the support routes listed above, and treat any other phone number as suspect.
If Support can’t verify you
Cash App’s Terms allow it to restrict access when an account can’t be verified. If that happens, you may have to open a new account. Ask Support what will happen to any balance or linked funds on the old account, because the published sources don’t say.
